I just bought a 99% battery life 2020 13” m1 MacBook Pro 16GB / 1TB for $820. I think it’s far more compatible to the 14” he tested in this video. I think it’s probably the best deal / value in laptops right now. M1 is still more than enough for most people.

I know I am in the minority here, but I love The Touch Bar. The ability to get type suggestions, move progress bar when playing a video, changing tabs in a browser, answering and ending video calls are features that I got very used to. It was created for pros and I dont even edit anything on it. Not to mention, more and more creatives are saying how they miss Touch Bar. You dont know what you have until its gone haha R.I.P Touch Bar

I don’t get all the hate either. I keep reaching out to the function keys now and realise the Touch Bar is gone. I loved being able to quickly delete emails or reply, scrub through videos, etc. It definitely had more potential to live up to but it was handy more often than not.

I agree, I want the touch bar and will miss it if they take it fully away one day. I feel like it takes some time to fully appreciate the touch bar; I know it was that way for me. But if you take the time to learn how to make it work best for you, it can be really great and a fun piece of tech. It is extremely useful for me when filling out webforms, I love how it gives you name and address suggestions just like on the iPhone, so quick and easy. And just simple things like the animated arrow telling you to use Touch ID, sure you don't NEED it but it is good visual feedback on what the system is waiting on. I really thought Apple would go all-in and put the bar on the iMac keyboard, etc. but I think they have just gotten tired of people constantly complaining about something new and just said "fine" and went back to 2015.

I use touch bar, but I hate how common keys like sound volume control and brightness control are moving and collapsing in certain apps. I would say, there should either be dedicated keys for common controls or these controls should be always visible on a touch bar. Not sure if there is a way to configure this.
Anyways, looking at new Macbook Pro - it is just way bulkier and heavier than the previous 13" model which for me is a huge con. Besides, I've already got used to having only thunderbolt ports. I've got rather expensive card + USB A adapter but I rarely use it now. Thus, first I was excited that they now offer a variety of ports again, but then I've realised that I have never used more than 2 thunderbolt ports at once.
Give me dedicated common control keys + that narrow bevel + the power of 14", but in a weight and size of 13" - and I'm ready to pay as much as 14" cost now.
For now, my choice if Macbook M1 13" 16Gb/512Gb.

Apple always, and I mean always leave one thing off their products that everyone wants. Then they release a new version with that feature. Original iPhone no actual apps. MagSafe. Ports. Tele or wide angle lens. You name it. The way they keep getting people to upgrade is to make big shiny improvements and hamstring the products. As far as I'm concerned this is the first time they've made a MacBook as good as the 2012 since...well...2012.

I got the 14 and there’s things that are better that you don’t expect. The extra screen real estate is very noticeable, the speakers are incredible and the bigger function keys are way nicer. I know all the reviewers say if you’re a pro, get the pro but it’s noticeably better for regular consumers too if you can stretch your budget.

Why is every Macbook review about video editing? I mean come on, if you edit videos and photos all day on your Macbook, you seriously need to get a desktop. I cannot find a single video about the new Macbook Pro 14 on how it compares to the 13 inch in everyday usage scenerios like borwsing web, watching movies, youtube, using word, excel and how does the battery compares.

    • @InceptiveDOP

if someone buys last years MBP M1 and add extra ram and SSD to make it 16GB / 512GB for $1700, it would be one of the dumbest purchases ever. For extra $300 for the the new MBP M1 Pro, you get a way faster chip, mini LED display, 120hz, ports, MagSafe, bigger screen, better camera, and much more. That's a hell of deal for extra $300.

At least that's what I've seen so far in doing 4k in Premiere. the m1 pro I think has encoders/decoders for 8k pro res. I spent 79 dollars on an anker doc with 3 USB ports and an hdmi port for when I'm at my desk.

Apple have got this badly wrong. I have been waiting for the new MacBook Pro to replace my current 5 year old model. But that notch and the PRICE are ridiculous. I haven’t Ted done a lot of video editing, it is however something i am interested in. I am also planting in taking data analysis and python programming certificate classes. I do like to take pictures and record ABs edit music as well. I can get the m1 frombackmarket in good condition, with 30 day return, and a year warranty. Optional extended .
And the M1 Pro from Amazon renewed, in premium condition, which come with a year warranty, which includes the option to return for the entire year. M1, $832 which comes to about 902. So it is a difference if over 300 + !

I'm interested in the question of autonomy when comparing MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro (basic) vs MacBook Pro 13" M1.
for me, battery life is just important, since it's very cool when a laptop can be used all day without charging, and the MacBook Pro 13 "M1 is top in this regard (I don't consider 16 inches because it's too bulky).
but I also like the cooler screen and sound of the MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro + new design.
and I’m wondering, if you remove 120 hertz and use the laptop only for watching videos, browsing and instant messengers without heavily loading the video core with graphics job, will the MacBook Pro 14 "M1 Pro lose significantly in the battery of the MacBook Pro 13" M1?
And another question about heating? Is there a big difference between them in heating (when browsing and watching TH-cam, etc.)?
    thanks!

Skip the 13 MBP entirely...or go with 14 and maybe 32gb ram as well for a "step up" if you need the extra performance. Ultimately, battery life and storage, were key. However If your child’s hobbies and interests outside of academia include creative work like editing photos, or video making then the M1 pro is a faster computer and optimizes the performance of some of those editing programs. Any Mac based laptop, I would say you are likely to see a decrease in performance after 5 years even if it still works functionally. Just got the 14” and while it’s definitely fast and a huge upgrade from my previous i5, there’s actually some programs that I use quite often that are Intel based and haven’t been updated to the new m1 architecture. They run on the Rosetta (simply to get them onto the MacBook), but run SUPER SLOW. Like not even usable slow. I get paid for my photography, small gigs-word of mouth, as a small side hustle for extra income. Hobby slowly building up. Is the performance boost negligible in that use-case? And does it come down to how much the extra upgrades matter versus what the $1140 could go towards or be saved?

I just want the screen. Give me a 14" with 8GB / 256GB and I'll upgrade from my 13" MBP M1. I have 190GB free out of the 256GB. I don't understand why ppl are so crazy about storage, except if you work with video, sure. Not everyone in this world is a video editor/TH-camr. Also, I don't notice any sluggishness because of the 8GB of RAM.
I know they might come up with a 14" Air but I'm pretty sure it' not going to be a Mini LED 120Hz screen. I only want the screen, though 😄

8:05 - Yes, the screen is larger, but I just can’t get over how TERRIBLE that notch looks, when I see the 2 screens side-by-side like that.

good review. One of my favorite features is the new Duel Monitor Support with the 14 and either one of the Thunderports also charge the MacBook Pro. I can plug my monitors into the sides and it also charges the laptop. Best upgrade I have done so far. it was a good year with last years model.

I just purchased a MacBook Pro 13” (M1, 2020) 512SSD 8GB. I’m upgrading from an old acer laptop 1tb 4gb ram. I wanted this purely for the luxury of working without any hinderance. Emails, office work and programs + browsing also maybe video editing in the future. Just asking if this was a sane purchase or should I sell it after arrival and stretch my budget for a difference model

new M1 MacBook Pros - "16" and 14". The body is squared off and thicker than my 2019 MBP. WHAT??? And it feels cheap, not like the former Airplane Grade aluminum. You knock on it and it feels hollow-ish. And the bottom feet are harder than previous models, almost like a cell phone case that is hard plastic and sort of hits the desk too hard. I am pretty disappointed. Why, Apple, Why?

question: i just got the 13 inch, i use laptop for watching netflix, hulu etc in bed. I feel the 13in is too small, wondering if i need the 14 in or the 16 inch? how much bigger does the 14 inch seem as far as experience watching content with laptop on your chest. thx

The parameters of the 2021 are a lot of better, especially the plus 8GB of memory. I had a plan to purchase mainly because of a new display, but unfortunately the design is terribly ugly compared to the 2020 one. Definitely a huge step back. It's like a retro from before 20 years. I think I will wait for the next one and stay with the 2020 model. Hopefully the new design from 2022 or 2023 will look better.

I'm considering getting either the MacBook Air from last year and upgrading the storage and RAM, or getting the new MBP. I do intend to travel with it, so the lighter weight of the Air may be advantageous. But I also want to keep it for, say, the next 5 years. The mini-LED ProMotion screen is great, however at home I normally use it with an external display anyway.

I'm a sucker for nice displays so although the M1 is plenty fast for my needs (Lightroom + Photoshop and some light editing on Pr and Ae), I've decided to go with the 14". Also no touch bar is an option worth paying for ;)
