I think it makes sense to compare performance and price using a 13” MacBook Pro upgraded to 16gb RAM and 512gb SSD storage, since those are what the base model 14” comes with. In that case the base model 14” only costs $300 more with a better screen, ports, more GPU cores, faster SSD, etc.
@@lenavoyles526 base model, so 8gb/256gb on the 2020 M1 13", vs the 16gb/512gb on the 14" 2021 M1 Pro. I think the big decision comes down to battery life for deciding between the 13" and 14", as you can squeeze out roughly 1-2 more hours on the 13", so if all day battery is super important, that might end up being the determining factor for going with last year's model if you're matching specs.
I don't think there's that big of a difference. it is known that the M1 version with 8gb of ram was already 20-30% slower in rendering than the 16GB version.
wow this is a big video! I feel like I want a new macbook pro but I have no need for all that power. I just love that is has an HDMI port and sd card slot, the first time Apple has listened to their customers in a while. You're killing it with the uploads!

Im gonna save someone a quick buck: If you dont do video editing on a high to professional level, you dont need this. Go for the M1 Air. It is absurd the level of work you can do with that given that price point.
wrong calculation of battery. m1pro spent 59 points out of 100 as m1 spent 50 in the same tests/time. So the difference is about 20%. It means old m1 is more power-efficient as m1pro, which is obvious, as m1pro is more power (power-hungry).
A 16gb M1 comparison would be interesting. Personally I'm still on the fence to upgrade for my type of work which includes video editing mostly with braw.

Great video once again. This is one of very few channels that goes in-depth and does not feel like superficial promotion content. I would love to see a video showing how the MacBook Pros do in Premiere Pro and After Effects. Also showing the performance with Dynamic Link and tasks like 3D tracking.
Can you please compare the 14 inch BASE Macbook Pro with the 14 inch Macbook Pro with 10-Cores CPU and 14-Cores GPU (with the same RAM and Storage Config)? I would really like to see if the upgrade is worthwhile.

Apple now offers four different MACBOOK laptops for four types of users: 1.) The M1 MACBOOK AIR is for casual users who mainly use their laptop to surf the web, write emails, send text messages, listen to music, watch videos and on occasions may write programs and/or edit music, photos and/or videos using inexpensive or free apps. 2.) The M1 MACBOOK PRO is for amateur hobbyist and semi-professionals who have outgrown the inexpensive and free editing/coding apps and now require a laptop capable of tackling slightly bigger and more complex tasks. 3.) The M1 PRO MACBOOK PRO is for avid hobbyists, semi-professionals, and professionals who want to use powerful, best of breed, computers and apps to do serious editing, programming, data analysis and content creation. 4.) The M1 MAX MACBOOK PRO is for avid hobbyists, semi-professionals, and professionals who require the MOST powerful hardware and software to do the MOST complex and demanding tasks in their respective industries.
It’s so insane how much great content you deliver so consistently 🔥. I really appreciate all the effort you put into your videos and I hope you continue growing like that👍🏻
Thanks for the video mate! I do a lot of office task, casual video editing, and some music production. I think I'd stick with my 2020 M1 MBP for now, since I don't need that much power. 2020 M1 MBP already did very very well for my needs.
Hello, Can you please make a comparison only of Video editing 13" Base M1 Macbook Pro and base variant 14" 2021 M1 Pro. Include things like Importing media, scrubbing through the timeline, adding VFX and fusion titles. Adding special effects, color grading the clips, some audio editing and exporting. Please try to do it in DR. Thank you so much for your effort.
For mid-level photo-video editing, college, programming, projects in applications like Autocad, solidworks, and others, is it enough to buy M1 13” macbook pro, or should i wait to buy M1 Pro 14”?? I'm waiting for your opinion, thanks!!!
Thanks for this amazing video, but I think it is not fair to compare the M1 8gb RAM with the M1 PRO 16gb RAM. I tested the M1 16gb RAM vs M1 PRO 16gb RAM (M1 pro of the 16” version, with 10CPU cores and 16 GPU cores) and they perform almost the same in my photographer workflow. If you have a chance to compare those two models it would be interesting because I’m sure you will notice that there are less differences. In my opinion, it is disappointing that they perform almost the same, but at least we have a lot of new features in the new versions that will make me keep the 16”.
Yes! So far i’ve not seen ANY reviewers comparing an upgraded M1 16GB/512GB 13” to the base M1 Pro which is what I’m deciding between. I’m a Graphic designer that uses PS, ID, AI and occasionally C4D, but in my country the difference between a refurbished M1 13” and a brand new M1 Pro 14” is almost 1k after AppleCare. Not really keen on the touchbar but 1k is a huge difference
You see some dropped frames with XAVC-S footage on M1- I see performance I couldn’t dream of with Ryzen 3600! Really great comparison to show that older machine still good and does job very well. Thanks a lot!
The funny thing is that in somewhere like Nigeria the price difference is so much wider, so here the 13" MBP M1 actually makes more sense because the new MBP is literally double the price after currency conversion. Which is sad because this new one is incredible

If your in the same position as me, go 14in honestly
51% vs 41% battery means a 20% difference in battery drain, the 14 inch MacBook pro being worse. It actually means that the 13 inch MacBook pro is expected to have still 20% juice left when the 14 inch turns off, if the tendency is kept. Just FYI :)
Great comparison, thank you! I'm gonna stay on my 16, 512 13" Macbook Pro M1 and not buy the 14". MacBook Pro 13" 2014 ~~ VS ~~ that new beast! Possible? Would love that!
Edit: Personally I've been skipping the butterfly keyboard and I must not be the one right?

I have put an add for selling one of my kidneys.
Nice comparison, thanks ! I'm going to stick with my 16GB Macbook 2020 M1 13" and not buy the 14".
I think the MacBook Air M1 is still the best value for money (in fact, I would say unusually cheap, which the new 14's are not). However, a comparison of the MB M1 with 16GB versus the MB M1 pro with 16GB would be useful. There are many tests on YT that reported a 20-30% reduction in rendering times equipping the m1 with 16GB instead of 8GB.
Ohhh maannn this is what i need for comparisson . Big thanks for did it 💯💯
You think that‘s the end of the 13“ MB Pro ? Or could they go with a “budget“ 12“ MB Pro or something ?
apple was gathering customer input of the 12" so its assumed in mid 2022 youll see a light redesigned MacBook.
These new computers are insane!
I wonder if they will make the new air 14” seeing it will have a notch. That’s the one I’m excited for. They need to give it the ports too.
Excellent video!!!!! thanks for the effort and the time.....
Can you do a compare M1 and M1 pro in blender.
Spectacular job, dude! 🤩
Love it, but don't need it. Will wait for sales next year.
Your threshold for "exactly the same" worries me.
