    When my son was 7 years old he became a George fan! He would imitate all of George’s gestures while performing this song. Now he is grown up and a classical music teacher who still appreciates Beatles music!

    In fact his timbre is always characterising the harmonies and very distinguible.

    The parallel triad chords played by the vocal harmonies laid over the "drone" B major guitar chord really create some weird effect, halfway between Mediaeval and Debussy. The Mixolydian flat 7th played by the guitar arpeggio adds the trademark Indian touch. One of the best Beatles songs. George didn't write much but nearly all the songs he wrote from Taxman onwards are masterpieces.

    If George was in any other band he would've definitely been the top dog. But fate put him in The Beatles with the 2 greatest pop music makers of all time.

      @mrs.featherbottom5901 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Cockshield but would he be as good as he was if he hadn't been so close to john and Paul and hadn't learned from them?

    • @dabreu
      @dabreu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wrong. If he was in any othr band there is a great chance he would have been totally unknown. Unless he had created his own band since the start...and...again, maybe you had never heard of him. Just see if other guitar players in those other bands had chances. How many times Keith Richards had the chance to sing lead? I guess only one. And how about Brian Jones? Nothing. So, George was in the right place and he only managed to have a good solo career later because he was a Beatle before. While with the Beatles he indeed manage to show his talent as a songwriter...something he was not for a long time. But even so he had space in all albums. Like here for instance. How come you didn't notice George recorded this beautifiul song in harmony with John and Paul for the album Rubber Soul? It is amazing so many people trashing John and Paul every single time they listen to a George's song forgetting he only grew up because he accepted to be a Beatle. He only started composing more in 1966. He informed that once...He didn't use to compose...but even so he would sing at least twice if he wanted. For A Hard Day's Night he simply didn't present any song for the movie. So John and Paul composed one especially to sing: I am just to dance with you. He presented only a song for Sgt Pepper's! He was not interested.... The Beatles is the only band where all members could shine, and how they shine. How Georbe shone, Jesus! But his fans just can't see it and somehow disrespect him. Here, instead of admiring how great it was their harmony, so very well presented in this video, you came to try to destroy The Beatles...Oh my goodness. And it is a disrespect to George because if he was so in the shadows of the other ( he was not, he had light as well) and remained with them till the end, then he was kind of idiot. He should had left in 1960! And..possibly remained anonymous forever.

    Galeazzo,
    It's on Amazon, but there is another one by Walter Everett, "The Beatles as Musicians", that gets much better reviews. You need musical experience to fully follow that one, they say (2 vols.):
    I just watched your video on "Help!", and really like your detailed observations like lingering on "whennnn" to make room for John, and the bit about Paul's double note picking as important to the song makeup. That sort of fine finish is what makes Beatles music so fascinating. Great work.

    Galeazzo, I always felt George got short shrift. He could write! And he had a luscious voice. I think the timbre of his voice is what made their vocals so good. Do you know Tim Riley's book, "Tell me why"?

    Your singinging is amazing and to split the vocals is an amazing skill. Btw, in the verse the tonality of the bass root of the chord doesnt go down one tone. Had tomentioned, cause it changes the whole picture of vocals along. Cheers

      @TheBeatlesVocalHarmony  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      whom's vocal and which part of the lyrics you mean?

    • @Bojanmarsetic
      @Bojanmarsetic 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not the vocals, the vocals are perfect. I meant your guitar backtrack. You go down on G, which is not like on record. The bass string has to play A, even when you go down on G in verses. I mentioned because is the whole new picture when its done

    • @TheBeatlesVocalHarmony
      @TheBeatlesVocalHarmony  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah ok thank you :)

    • @ianbartle456
      @ianbartle456 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bojanmarsetic You are right. I've seen this done in part ensembles where they have John's gtr part done with normal first position A and G5 chords. BUT you get a more realistic sound, when you don't have a bass churning along underneath, if you play the lower rhythm part as an F shape A chord on frets 5, 6 and 7 (with or without the open E doubled for extra jangle), and move it down to a G triad (diagonally in frets 3, 4 and 5) while retaining the open 5th A string. Always sounded good to me.

    Who is 'George' in your band? I wish I could hear the Vergas. My playing days were over before Sgt. Pepper came out. We did the early stuff, Beatles and Stones. Ah, the memories. I was very young, barely a teenager (I'm 59). The band was called 'the Betas' -- after the tropical fish (and 'Beatles', of course).

    i would actually argue that his vocals are the hardest to hear in songs he is not leading. i always struggle to hear him singing because he sings so quietly for some reason.

    In music you have either got it or you haven't. The harmonies are very easy to replicate if you have the ear for music. If you don't you may be able to mimic like a parrot. But someone with the ear can get it easily.
