      90GTVert What brand sliders are you using or would recommend? I just got a KOSO variator with 6g sliders from scrappydawg but my 6g rollers are much faster with acceleration. Do would you recommend buying a "performance" clutch kit or just replacing the stock spring and/or shoe?

    Great videos. A little over a week ago, I bought a dead scooter for a couple hundred bucks and knew nothing about it. Now I've got it running like a top, with no outside help whatsoever. And, I'm confident I can keep it going should anything else spring up. Thanks a ton. Cheers.

    Finally video's with some great information, I love scooter tuning and although I have a 2 stroke high performance speedfight your idea's are simple but at the same time brilliant if you don't have access to a rolling road.
    Its nice to see someone who isn't barking on about doing 80mph but brilliant tuning tips and if your getting into tuning your scooter I would deffo watch these videos as they make a lot of sense even I got alot of tips and Ive been into tuning since I was 16 and had a AR 50 20 yrs ago. All I can say is great work keep it up as your tips are spot on and well shown.

    As long as there is no leak where you sealed off the head, should be no trouble with PAIR removal and tune. Take a look at the plug. Easy enough to see if it's fouled. If you run it WOT first and shut the engine off, coast in or ideally brake so the engine totally stops. Then when you look at the plug you'll be able to see if it's wet or dry to give you more clues. Check grounds and other connections. Make sure the plug boot and wire are secure.

    I’d like to argue that your lean bog after removing intake restrictions was a dead giveaway that the engine is capable of making more power but limited by something else.

  • @49ccscoot
    @49ccscoot  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks. This one is running hotter CHT than my 2Ts. My 2Ts stick more around 300-350WOT according to my gauges... but then I also don't have to run them wide open all the time when cruising at 30-35, so the 4T is seeing a lot long WOT times. The probe is about 11-12" from the header, maybe 1-2 o'clock position, about 3/4" spaced up to not block the small pipe off (pics on forum). It would work on a 2T, but oil is hard on the sensor and a special adapter (Koso) should be used. Never tried it.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the mix screw is way out, try a larger pilot jet. On these carbs it controls fuel so when it's out it's letting more fuel pass and if it's in it's blocking off the fuel passage more.

      Hard to know. There have been some pretty poor quality parts out of China at times.

  • @49ccscoot
    @49ccscoot  11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Shouldn't be like a mirror, but they aren't usually as rough as you'd think. Rough it up with some sandpaper or emery cloth. Give the clutch shoes a quick once over as well. Clean both with brake parts cleaner before you reinstall.

  • @49ccscoot
    @49ccscoot  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It won't usually close until everything starts rotating. You can turn the pulleys by hand sorta feeding the belt while the engine is off and you should see that it starts working it's way out... or make sur ethe belt clears the cover and bolt it back on then start the engine. Let it run a few seconds and shut it off and re-check if you'd like. If it stays there after the engine is running, then there's a problem.

    I ported my intake , opening up the 90° turn mostly, but the main issue was port matching, the ports were off substantially! Nearly 1/4 of the port, I bought a new intake, it was considerably smaller, and had a major reduction in size around the 90° bend, it was about 14mm, just over 1/2", like the tip of my lil finger ! I opened it up a bit, but it was nothing near the size of another I had, so I ported it and matched it to the head, I would like for it to be about 2mm larger around the 90° bend, with a nice sweep, it fits the carb and head nicely, I straightened the port under the valves, and blended around the valve guides, id like to eventually go to the 52mm bore, and 44mm stroke, maybe get crazy with some machining, and move to a 57 mm bore, should be 100cc plus a couple right? I haven't done the maths, maybe 98-99cc but no replacement for displacement! It would be cheaper and easier to just swap in a 150cc, (with a big bore),

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'd have about 112cc if you could make a 57mm bore fit. All said and done, I'd guess you'd fair better swapping in a GY6 150. A lot of people have had enough trouble with reliability with even the 52.4mm bores. I'd also assume you'd have pretty much no material between the bore and the studs at that point, if there's enough room to do it at all.

    one thing you did was removed the hose from the air box do not do this instead leave the house with the cap for stability and remove the filter in the air box. after removeing the stock fome filter buy a 38mm coin filter and slip it over the end of the hose you removed this way you will get more airflow and better performance the stock fome filter restricts air intake but in most cases you still need the hose and box

    Awesome! Long intake runners helps car engines make more low to mid range TQ, has anyone heard of someone adding length to the intake of these scooters? Either a 1" spacer under the intake, or a pipe and boot between carb and intake , or both? Being these little guys sound their day at near full throttle, it may not help with top speed, however maybe it could help get ya there quicker?? If done properly maybe it could help top end slightly,

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure it has been tried, but it's not a common mod. Most intake mods are due to fit or port/carb diameter changes. With these engines, gains at low RPM aren't usually worth a lot because the CVT keeps them at fairly high RPM so much. For all out performance, the best bet is usually to focus on making the CVT hold RPM the best you can at WOT and focus power making efforts on a somewhat narrow range.

      Lighter roller weights are usually the easiest option to help them pull hills a little easier. A big bore kit really makes a difference in power though, and should be a nice mod for anyone needing to climb hills.

    Great videos. I bought a new taotao and did replaced almost everything you replaced. It runs way better now. I can’t seem to find the KeiHin carb online and if I do I find, I can only find the cheap ones that looks nothing like yours. I know you bought yours from a local store. But did you find any legit Keihin carbs online?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought mine from an eBay seller, but they no longer have them. The Keihin part isn't essential. I actually think most replacement carbs that are fully adjustable would do fine. The stock carb wouldn't bother me if it were adjustable, but finding the right needle wasn't worth it to me. Easier to get a whole new carb.

    Hello and thank you for these great videos I have a crazy question maybe you could answer, I bought two of the same scooters one of them does 43 mph right out the box which is crazy? But the other oneCan barely hit 25 what would you recommend I try?I have changed the plug,carb,cdi, and that fuel vacuum thing to no avail. can you recommend anything else because that particular one is still super slow?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried any of the parts from the faster on on the slower one? Like, did you try it's carb or just a general replacement carb? It could be as simple as a tuning difference. Could be that one has a restriction somewhere. Could be a defect, like maybe one has low compression.

    • @paultoomey7016
      @paultoomey7016 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No sir I didn’t try any of the parts from the other scooter, no I wish I did one at a time dammit man? What would be considered the safe temperature range for the head? Also what should be the max rpm?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Temp will depend on your gauge setup to some degree. With any of my CHT gauges I tend to get used to the range it runs in when in tune and anything significantly higher is an issue. Peak power for me was 7800-8200 so there really wouldn't be a need to rev too much higher. Valve float is somewhere above 10,000RPM for most of these.

      Rich fouls plugs. Lean would leave it clean. Turning the screw in would lean the idle mixture. You may have to go over the whole tune, not just the screw. Here's a bunch of info : www.49ccscoot.com/faq/carbtune.html

    What all modifications can I do now that I dont have a rev limiter, a rebuildable carb, & went from a 50cc to a 80cc BBK? There isnt a pink wire on the cdi box & the carburetor filter is gone along with the air box restriction. What all do I need to do since I installed a 80cc BBK

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Put the filter back in the airbox. No filter will reduce engine life and it's really not gonna cost you much or any power if it's clean. Tune the carburetor.
      Then it sounds like a good time to work on the CVT. At least tuning with weights and springs. Maybe try a performance variator.
      Many also like the gains with an A9 cam.

      I went & bought a A9 cam when I had the 50cc head & jug & didnt see any hp gain anywhere. But when I got the 80cc I felt a good hp gain with the A9 cam. I will get a new filter for the box soon. I have factory sliders from a 150cc I had at 1 time but they wont fit a 50cc variator but I wished they would. Do you know what gram is factory for a 50cc? I have blue rpm springs but no blue contra spring. I also have a new belt ordered and waiting on it. The factory belt busted at 11,000 kilometers & I think its because of the clutch. The clutch & variator housing is a poor design. The inlet hole is allowing water to get into the belt, clutch &, variator casing causing rust to collect on the clutch. I made a snorkel for the airbox to stop water from getting into the box. I did little mods but isnt much. It didnt like being rode in the rain. So the snorkel for air box & tape on the inlet hole of the clutch worked but I dont like clogging the hole so Im working on snorkeling that as well so no water can get in. If I ride in that puddle like you did it wouldnt make it out!

      Some of the folks on the forum could give you better advice with the PWK. I have never used one. If you get a quality brand... like Keihin or OKO for example, then it should last for years. I've used UNI pod filters, usually the dual layer, and K&N filters on 50-150 4Ts without issue, though I prefer the foam UNIs. There's no reason that combo should need to be replaced regularly. As far as what jetting to start out with on something like that, I have no idea. Again, no experience there. I have heard forum members say that acceleration is dramatically improved when you get rid of the CV carbs though.

My two-strokes have more traction issues, and I've had good results with Michelin Pilots on them. Lots of tires work pretty well, but stay away from max performance dry weather tires. Michelin Boppers are probably the worst I've had. My first 70cc would spin the tire bad in the rain with one of those on the back.

      +michael paradise 19-20mm without the factory sealing would be fine. Pretty much any that you buy shouldn't be sealed. That's only on scoots to meet EPA regulations. You can find them on ebay and from places like www.partsforscooters.com/?partner=49CCSCOOT . Keihin is good if you can find one at a reasonable price, but even the knockoffs do fine for most. Just the sealed stuff without adjustable needles should be ditched.

    Well I finally broke down and bought a wideband AFR. intend to use it on my (171cc) China scooter, I'm gathering that 12.5 to 13.5 would be good numbers to look for and tune for, does that sound reasonable to you?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, if you can keep it around there WOT it would be good. As shown in the vid, I did my normal tuning routine and found best results based on that. Then I noted what the wideband showed when I was there. Not all engines like exactly the same thing and not all widebands are going to measure exactly the same so I think it's best to do it that way rather than being totally dependent on the sensor right away.

      I don't really do 'em on scoots without the sensor (all the rest I've ever owned or tuned). What would be a good carb to use on my 150cc. I would like a bigger carb and one that wouldn't hit my crossbar. The crossbar seems to be the issue right now. Thanks

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really don't deal with 150s much. 30mm seems to be the popular choice. Not sure if it's really necessary. Lots of clearance issues as I understand it. You'll want an intake to match whatever carb you choose so I would suggest thoroughly searching for options to see which combos do clear. Also I don't see it being worth the effort and expense if you leave a big mismatch from intake to cylinder head. Not saying you have to port the head, but port matching should help.

    • @TurboTyler
      @TurboTyler 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya, I have tried two different NCY intake manifolds. The last one said it was for low profile due to the crossbar but still pushed the carb into the crossbar. I was planning on a bbk later and adding everything at that time with a bigger carb. Oh well I guess im screwed on this situation. Thanks

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @TurboTyler
      @TurboTyler 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think that the manifolds will bolt up correctly like that. I would love to have it forward facing but will have a linkage problem. I think that I tried this at one time.

    • @TurboTyler
      @TurboTyler 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only other solution would be some kind of luck on a side draft if they make one or, one that is designed like a car with the butterfly on top facing up. Once again that is if they make something like that. I never wanted to upgrade my carb due to the mpg. However loved the manifolds but couldn't get em to work no matter what. I don't think the stock carb will out flow itself even with a bbk and head.
