I've been searching around for pros and cons for the tankless water heater - thank you for this video! I'll be purchasing the Fogetti tankless water heater!
In Australia, people have put a return valve on the hot water line that recycles the water in the line until the heat is at temp. Saves water and just lets your hot water come out warm. Just means you might have to wait a few extra seconds. No more juggling wasted water.
This is a great idea and one we would have tried if we knew about it when we were remodeling our RV. To access the plumbing in our RV (and most) is too challenging without having to take apart our shower or adjacent walls. RV manufacturers don't think about people upgrading what they build. They plan on you having to buy new RVs on a regular basis. When we did finally have to take our shower apart due to a leak we realized that was the time to do the return valve. But we didn't have the time or inclination at that point. We're getting along just fine without it. But definitely an idea if you have access to the hot water line into the shower.
Had the truma aqua go comfort installed last spring in Elkhart last spring. My motor home is two years old now. Best quality and support was what I looked for. Pricey and good, they install. The one you got is better than the other fair that’s on the market. Wife loves it. Propane is very minimal. We fill our propane tank on the coach about every 5 weeks and includes cooking etc. which is good. Enjoy it.
The Truma water heater is definitely a good product, but we couldn’t afford it. We’ve been extremely happy with the Fogatti and have had zero issues in 5 months. Glad you’re enjoying the Truma 😊
I just ditched my 42 year old (!!) propane HW htr for an electric one. So small! Recycled the hole for an outside shower unit (no more wet puppies inside!).
Great info! I'm considering a tankless water heater upgrade for my travel trailer. My home tankless water heater (Rennai) has a recirculation function to avoid the water waste. You basically install a thermal coupler at the faucet so the waste water returns to the heater via the cold water line. They call it "ThermaCirc360". Hopefully we'll eventually see this function in Rv water heaters.
Food for thought. If you install a recirculating pump and return line from farthest fixture back to heater you could flip a switch about a minute before using the shower/sink and would not lose any precious resources.
Mine keeps having an E1 code, kicks on for maybe a minute and then flame out code. Worked yesterday after install but now I can’t even do the dishes. Hoping the issue gets resolved soon.
Usually the E1 code means you’re low on propane. When our propane gets too low the water heater will light but cut off soon after. We switch to a new tank and it fixed it. But maybe the pressure in your propane tank is too low?
Fresh 30lb tank just filled this morning. Seems like when the flame is on low it’s ok. As soon as it goes to the full flame it cuts out. Set it to 109 the shower runs fine. Turn sink on full flow cuts out. Turn on until the flame just barely turns on it heats up fine. Fogatti says control board but I dunno if I’m gonna keep it. Probably just return it.
The tankless are more efficient! The propane only runs when you’re using the hot water. Where as on the tanked ones the propane has to run for however long it takes to heat the water in the tank up(our old one took Atleast 15-20 mins to heat up). The only thing you lose is the electric heating element which obviously doesn’t use propane
Thinking about getting one from them but heard a lot about lack of customer service. I called the company and there is no way to talk to the actual company, sent me to a call center that I'm guessing is out of the country. This is the only way to talk to anybody at the office is through email. They also said if you have problems and need a warranty unit, you have to send your unit in first before they will send you a replacement back. Did you actually talk to somebody from the company? Seems like a huge drawback even though they have a ready to go unit that will fit my 10 gallon heater.. 🤔
We did talk with the company. But maybe things have changed or we got better service by luck. Sorry. Not sure about the warranty unit but that’s not convenient either. Again, not something we have faced
I dont know why the companies dont add temperature sensor with two-way valve (can be activated by 12v switch when desired), circulation to the fresh water tank, when the flow matches the desired temperature, it switches to the faucet. the lower setpoint, the faster water flows. in case water city source, the fresh water tank will get full, the water goes with overflow outlet.
Just my 2 cents. I have a new Girard tankless water heater (had to replace the original one). I absolutely HATE it. I am planning of replacing it this year with a tank water heater. I know it will be difficult and may even require cutting a larger hole in the outside of the RV. But for me the tankless option is a huge water waster and works terribly. The tankless option is a bad idea for anyone trying to boondock.
We LOVE our Fogatti. Once you empty the "waste" into a container you can use later, it is no longer waste. We fill our dog bowl. But you are welcome to do what you need to do.
I agree with you! I have had 2 campers with gerrard tankless water heaters in them. The dealer and myself could never get them to work to our satisfaction. They took 7 seconds to react, then forever to get water up to temp, if you shut them off while soaping up or doing dish's you get a scald hot, freeze cold then a slow warmup again! Not to mention our's would come on all through the night if temps got down in the 40's ,and as you know ,they are loud..had to adjust flow on the back of the heater if water incoming was too cold, who needs it! Maybe if we had kids and a lot of showers needed taken or we did not boondock, they might be ok....or buy that 1500.00 one with mix tank built in. We replaced both with the new Suburban aluminum tank heater that does not need the anode rod.
Boondockers, your options are: 1. Cold showers 2. Hot showers, run out of water. 3. Hot showers, bring extra of water and a extra grey tank 4. Don't boondock.
I believe the Girard has been out longer than the Fogatti. If you read the reviews on Amazon Fogatti does have MANY positive reviews. And the Fogatti has a higher BTU at 55,000 compared to the Girard at 42,000 BTU. Also the Fogatti is designed to work better at higher elevations.

Great ideas. Yeah and we’ve thought of adding an accumulator too but the time and effort to plan and do these isn’t worth it right now.
Sounds like a great idea, but I'm sure that would void my warranty on my 2024 Keystone, LOL

Did you install the Fogatti Instashower 8 Plus or the Pro? It looks like the unit has a mixing tank provided with the Pro.
Pretty sure it’s the 8 plus that we have. I think the pro came out after we bought ours

We still boondock plenty with our water heater and don't complain about it. The overall benefits surpass the negatives.

There's some TH-cam videos as well of folks having probs with the Fogatti within a few months. I'd probably stick with Girard or Truma
