These videos are great! Extremely educational and thank you for posting. It looks to me as the import hole that you are filling is actually in the lot pads correct? I also thought I heard mention of spoils being used as the fill dirt? My question is, that being the the import hole is actually going to be buildable lots would it not need to be filled with good clay and compacted for the future home sites versus filled with spoils?

This is all dependent on your soils tech and their findings when they do their testing. They will let you know if the dirt that's already being pulled from the site would be reusable as backfill.

Start looking around see who move dirt for free like landscape company or guy with truck plants something thinking leveling his back yard. Know your areas smaller trades

Right on, Joey! If you can "synergize" your efforts by effectively combining three steps into one, then you're on the path to be more successful. We had a job where we budgeted to take dirt off-site somewhere down the road. But we talked with the neighbor right behind the project who needed dirt and he let us just dump the extra dirt right over the side of the fence!

Wouldn't it be possible to simply move your proposed grade up or down a few feet (or even inches) in order to completely fill the hole- or level some part of the site differently to get closer to 0 cubic yards? I am not experienced so am guessing that this isn't possible due to particular ordinances or requirements of each project or perhaps the required slope of the sewer connection? Does anyone know?

Things like the plan approvals would need to be altered and then reapproved, taking time and more money, plus an engineer would have to check if altering the plans would hinder construction on the altered lots. For example if you're building in a flood plain.
However, generally speaking that would be the logical solution and cost effective if it weren't for all the approvals that are required nowadays

Hello! How can you manage to dig a disposal hole that has as specific a volume? I mean, can those excavators precisely do the job so that you can ensure this disposal hole actually is 3,300 CY? How can you measure it? Thanks.

Hi, Sam. Yes, you can dig a hole to any specific volume amount you desire. There are multiple ways to do it, including using a GPS system. Or you can simply just have someone stand nearby and measure your depth of the hole with a measuring tape as the excavator digs down. At the end of the day, it's just basic math.
But just to clarify something, you typically don't purposefully dig a disposal hole. Because remember, the purpose of LEAVING a hole is to allow future dirt to go inside. So it would be counterproductive to simply remove dirt from a hole (just for the sake of having a disposal hole) and haul it somewhere only to spend more time and resources later just to fill it back up with dirt.
Where you can really take advantage of utilizing a disposal hole is when you have to IMPORT dirt in order to fill in the low areas of the site. If that's the case, just don't bring in as much dirt (which saves some money), and now you have a hole to fill with your later spoils! Does that make sense?

@@landdevelopment1019 Yes, it does. Btw, sorry for the delayed response. I think I had an overly complicated view of these activities, and it can keep me from thinking of basic solutions or p such as basic math or a tape measurer. As an outsider taking a sneak peek at construction sites, I'm mostly struck by these large machines seemingly doing everything roughly and broadly. Thanks for your videos.

Topo the area first then topo after is the best way!

Moral of story leave yourself so wiggle room this away or that way. Antispate problem. A problem isn't a problem till it's problem. I an expensive way think. It makes sense to build backwards in your mind. Your job is find and solve problem
