Legend has it that Moonlight Drive was the song that convinced Ray to form a band with Jim. The Oliver Stone movie got that right - came right out of No One Here Gets Out Alive.

-"Yes, the River Knows" from Waiting For The Sun (A lounge-y tune with Jim crooning over a piano-jazz backing.)
-"Queen of the Highway" from Morrison Hotel (The boogie breakdown mid-song always makes me smile.)
-"L'America" from L.A. Woman (Creepy-as-hell organ on this rocker.)
-"To Come of Age" suite (tracks 5-9) from American Prayer (Morrison's poetry at it's best.)

Moonlight Drive (my ultimate favorite Doors song), Love Street, The Crystal Ship, Runnin' Blue, Spanish Caravan, Peace Frog/Blue Sunday, Tell All the People, Easy Ride. I guess everyone knows "The End," but if that song qualifies, it's certainly one my favorite non-hit Doors songs.

My deep cut advice for people wanting to explore the Doors is actually a compilation. Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine. It's got a few of the hits, but it's mostly the non-beaten path stuff.

Jim MORRISON/ absolute LEGEND in My opinion/. 1968 NOT TOO TOUCH THE EARTH from WAITING for The ☀️ SUN. Still after 52 years does it for me !!!
The Complete Live version is much better while I find this version very half finished. I actually think the 'Waiting for the Sun' is their 'weakest' LP while still being utterly brilliant. 'Cars hiss by my Window.' Amazing. No band had so few filler tunes than the Doors. Basically none. Even the Beatles had LPs that were less solid.

Hey Pete: I did my list before checking out yer deep cut picks. We both have Wintertime Love and Queen of the Highway. (The latter is probably my favorite Doors deep cut.) For my other three I'd add: Land Ho! and Maggie M'Gill from Morrison Hotel, and Yes, the River Knows from Waiting for the Sun.

I can't do as Deep Cut on The Doors Pete, every track they recorded was and still is essential. An American institution! One of the Top 5 bands of all time. Love your singing by the way, if there is a local Doors tribute act to you, please put your name forward to be Jim :) Right I've had a think. Here's 5 songs EVERY self respecting rock fan should have in their collection. Like you have avoided anything from the first two totally awesome records. How about doing Ranking The Albums: Love. I’m going to have to give that Soft Parade album another listen. I’ve listened to that one once and I didn’t really jive with it.
It is their most underrated LP IMHO. It is my 3rd favorite after The first LP and their last, 'LA Woman'. A mid career high and somewhat different (the first with a lot of real bass). 'The Soft Parade' the song is in my top 3 Songs. The End, Riders on the Storm, The Soft Parade. 'When I was back there in Seminary school, there was a person there who put forth the the proposition, that you can petition the Lord with PRAYER! Petition the Lord with prayer. YOU CANNOT PETITION THE LORD WITH PRAYER!!.. *'This is the trip, the best part, the part I like!'*

Difficult one - agree, generally, with your choice to ignore first albums - but I thrown in "I Will Never Be Untrue" (Essential Rarities) as a rather cute, quite impromptu-sounding and unprepossessing little number to capture your spirit just a bit off guard from the very usual, broad range of Doors sounds you expect!

My Eyes Have Seen You is a fairly deep cut off the Strange Days album.
The Doors Live at the Matrix - Marty Balin's nightclub in San Francisco, and before they took off and the numbers Summertime and cover of Van Morrison's GLORIA. In contrast with later live offerings very few applauding and those that did were probably only being polite.

A lot of you are listing Wishful, Sinful and Runnin' Blue from The Soft Parade as "deep cuts". Actually both were released as singles - although they underperformed in the charts.

Out of curiosity, Mr. Pete, what do you think of the two Doors studio albums recorded and released after Jim Morrison's disappearance? You cannot get much deeper than cuts off of those two albums that many Doors fans are not aware even exist.
