I think it is kind of worth the price tags on Switch games!
Nintendo can still do more with their current hardware, imo, they can do more mario universe stuff, zelda remakes and old nes remakes like kid icarus, crystalis, punch-out, dr.mario!!!, excite bike, baseball, pro-wrestling, star tropics, etc. Bigger graphics and higher resolutions are just going to take longer to develop.
I was glad to hear that Mr. Miyamoto is laying the groundwork of himself passing the torch down to the next generation of developers and not to give in to cooperate greed. If the product is good the money will reward greatly.

Not adopting this mindset is why the west AAA games are failing. The focus on profit only.
I can remember plenty of occasions when Nintendo refused to follow trends and people said they were out of touch. Now, most of those trends have hit a brick wall and Nintendos way of doing things is still working. No surprise there.
It blows my mind how well the Switch has sold without software customization and apps like the other consoles. It has a few streaming services on it, other than that, the main focus being the brand, form factor, modularity, and content alone. Amazing to see them sticking to their guns and not over complicating things like other companies tend to do.
Don’t forget also never having an actual price cut which blows my mind even more especially this late, it’s crazy how good it’s selling

@@Brandon-ce2zb Very true. Also surprising with how wide open the system has been since launch. Almost every game is easily pirated upon release, yet the console still sells like no other.

Yeah every time they drop an N64 game I got a free game to play for a week. They are still as good as they ever were. SNES and GBA too
It's funny cause when Nintendo stuck to cartridges vs the PlayStation/XBox CD style games people thought they could be left in the dust. Now with Nintendo being as popular as ever and dont have that problem anymore making games available digitally and even being able play their consoles portably vs PS/Xbox it's amazing how much the tables have turned. Especially after a lack luster Wii U system that wasn't their greatest.
WiiU was the greatest console though. The game industry failed the console wanting to stick with boring yearly releases instead of making unique games for the system.

Long time PlayStation player here, my ps5 has been less and less used ever since Nintendo Switch has been releasing amazing games. Im currently revisiting Skyward Sword, still on my 1st run for BoTW, just bought Megaman BN Legacy bundle 1 & 2 on sale, and bought Metroid Prime Remastered on sale. The Switch has started to become my favorite console with fun and interesting games.
Literally, the only AAA company that still has charm and is actually making GAMES. They need that new console and everything will be PERFECT!
What this boils down to is saying two megahits like this a generation will subsidize all the rest of their operations, and as you pointed out they had four in the Switch era. Nintendo can afford to put out a massively diverse set of titles across serieses and genres as long as they have ~two hits this size in the generation.
A lot of clickbaity types have misread this as Miyamoto saying that games that don't hit 30 million have failed. He's not saying that at all. It's more like Mario Kart and Animal Crossing have to subsidize the rest of their lineup and the rest of their lineup makes the console attractive enough that people don't go "Hey, all there is on this is Mario Kart and Animal Crossing." The two work together to make a compelling offering.

Fans themselves don’t help. For example, Skyward Sword HD sold 500k more than the original Wii game. Link’s Awakening Switch, in 3ish years, sold as much as the combined lifetime sales of the original and DX.
Miyamoto is prepping the next gen Nintendo Devs and this is a smart Stragety that Nintendo is doing they are playing very smart right now and pulling in more talent as well plus Nintendo has the advantage after the Switch with the Next Gen aproaching.
It's crazy to think about people like Miyamoto stepping down but then alot of people at Nintendo have been around since the NES days including him. There really is a chance that alot of the old guard at Nintendo finally retire and leave the company in younger developers hands during the Switch 2 era.
Nintendo has a college like class for new hires to do things the Nintendo way, then they work directly with legends or work with people that have. No one gets to the spot to make a game until they've been thoroughly trained. And Nintendo is okay with trashing the project if it isn't up to standards, starting over if it's already been announced. So few companies will do that. Blizzard used to, and they were highly regarded, then they stopped and are hated

I just hope they don’t lose sight of their other strengths, namely AA releases and retaining much more of their staff compared to other companies.
The price of everything is going up, food, rent, gasoline, I think it's unrealistic to think Nintendo should sell their games for cheap. If you don't like a price, wait a while and someone will be selling a used copy for less! Nintendo is great on selling physical copies.
The Mig Switch has now made buying used games incredibly risky.

If the Switch 2 can play Switch games, but at a higher quality, that already sells them a HUGE amount of units.

My thoughts on Nintendo not being the one falling for a lot of the issues in the games industry: They've been around since the start of video games first and foremost, upper management generally cares about the products they produce, they're usually pretty innovative, and they USUALLY have good intentions with their products. Management are all gamers themselves. That makes a world of difference.
so by that logic of 1 super hit being enough every 3-5 years.... does mario kart 8 selling about 70m (both releases together) basically mean it was enough to make up for the wii u on its own and still be enough left over to be a super hit this gen?

I would love to see Mario kart game that is on the same level as super smash Bros. In regards to how many characters they have not just limiting it to Mario and donkey Kong for all Nintendo properties. I would definitely pick that up if it happens.

All depends on when Nintendo will announce or reveal the switch 2 this fiscal year Sunbro. We didn't get a price drop for the current switch consoles yet. Nintendo as well as Sony are skipping Gamescom this year. I doubt we'll get a switch 2 announcement or reveal next month or in August. A pretty good chance we get a switch 2 console reveal would be during the Tokyo game show in Tokyo Japan or at the video games awards.

It's really hard to say how the switch 2 will do. With all the new parks and movies the sky is the limit. The price if the new switch will be very important I think Nintendo can nail it around 400 it's still cheaper then the 2 options if you go for the best ones. As far as games go let's face it there the best. They have big budget games. Double a games and even smaller games. And 3rd party and independent games who can ask for more

You're not really understanding what he's saying. Miyamoto is saying one megahit 3 to 5 years subsidizes the rest of what the company does. That's two games a gen. (The Switch has had four such successes) But the idea is that as long as Mario Kart and Animal Crossing (for example) sell insane amounts of units that puts Nintendo in the black for the whole gen and they can pump out the rest of their gen's software without worrying TOO much about it.
In other words, Mario Kart 8 did so well that they can afford to put out Another Code: Recollection or Princess Peach Showtime and not really worry about the fact that they aren't selling well, while other companies have to worry that a single failed game will sink their companies.

Animal Crossing literally saved us in the bestest time during the pandemic. Fortnite even did the same, even though the game is older than ACNH. The price range wise is better than XBox and PS in console, the games are basically the same price, and yet the yearly subscription price is better on Nintendo’s side.
I can’t wait to see what Nintendo will be doing next for 2025.

When you have responsibility, children, bills and not rich these prices of Nintendo first party games are ridiculous this console is directed to children kids don’t have that kind of money and parents don’t want to spend all that money on a game some people would say just don’t buy it then or wait that not fair that people that can’t afford a 70 dollar game has to miss out on this entertainment because Nintendo thinks money grows out parents or peoples cheeks lower the prices of games is the way to go
