    Damn, Tommy, I can't imagine riding after that big crash that hurt your shoulder... it seems you could just screw yourself up more thereafter and delay recovery, but no, you just kept riding and whacking trees thereafter! It starts looking like a video game until I can't watch it again the next time I tried because the hard drive crashed. Ride another day, but only if you heal 1st! Tough looking trail.

    Tommy, you really should leave epidemiology statistics to the pros. Your calculations have absolutely no meaning. You can’t just divide numbers and say that number means something. For example, when you talk about the mortality or incidence rate in OC and LA, you have effectively brought in selection bias because your population is limited. Your numbers do not characterize the covid behavior at all. Again, in addition, you fail to recognize that this virus kills HEALTHY people. Not everyone like you said, but we have no model to predict who will recover or who will need a ventilator. And just because someone recovers doesn’t mean they have come out without side effects such as pulmonary issues, mental health changes, etc. Im just as passionate as you about biking and getting out there. On another note, can’t wait to see your new vid

    • @albertchung7444
      @albertchung7444 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      also, your argument and numbers do not lead to a conclusion that mountain biking is safe. Your data has nothing to do with mountain bikers in the first place. Really, just put out the content, but leave the rest to the pros.

    • @todisneylandandbeyond9170
      @todisneylandandbeyond9170 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You’re right. I’m a big fan of Tommy but this is a pandemic, and you are still riding with other people and are clearly close to them. Why not just listen to the experts and stay home for a little until this blows over. The mountains aren’t going anywhere..

    • @albertchung7444
      @albertchung7444 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You’re a nurse and you don’t respect the scientific method? Fake ass predictive models? You don’t sound like a nurse that understands context and science.

    • @user-pi5vg9ms6j
      @user-pi5vg9ms6j 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @RJ Reynaud it just takes common sense to tell this aint no common flu. All you have to do is look at how the world leaders are reacting to this to realise how serious this actually is. There is no way a nurse would leave such a stupid comment considering nurses are the people on the front line dropping dead left and right due to this pandemic.

    • @albertchung7444
      @albertchung7444 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      RJ, if you’re a nurse, you have the resources to look up the papers in medical journals. Don’t be lazy. RJ, I hope You don’t have this attitude with whatever medical work you are doing with patients. Seems to me you aren’t in the field for the right reasons.

      @jessehill3780 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool. That was really nice of you to send out that food to those on the front line. I know I kinda beat you up about your riding risk level last vid and while I still don’t agree with the levels your taking it it’s good to see you doing what you can. I’m essential but no where near the front lines like grocery workers or nurses and it’s just frustrating seeing someone at or near min wage go through what they are, I always try to thank them going through the line. Sure some might down play it but the more we know of this thing the more we do not know anything, it doesn’t care if your a health 27 yr old in an instant ICU case or an old 80 year old with 0 symptoms. Most all my trails were closed last week and as someone still going to work I’m really disappointed in that. Getting away and stretching my lungs and making sure I am ok for the moment is the only thing I’ve had to lower my anxiety of worrying if I’m not “right” and now that being taken away I’m not so sure how I feel about that.
      If I take a vacation this year down there like I usually do then I’m definitely planning to support you restaurant (I like Vietnamese food anyway)

I dont think that getting out and mountain biking or other activities should be banned or discouraged as long as you practice social distancing while doing so. Obviously, some activities like team basketball for example cannot be played within the social distance guidelines. I think some perspective is needed in all of this. An average flu season results in about 50,000 American deaths a year according to government stats. Most of these deaths are the elderly and the immune compromised with some younger and otherwise healthy people dying as well similar to covid. Covid is quite contagious and is more deadly than the typical flu (Covid is not a flu) so some measures should be taken like social distancing and perhaps wearing masks in more crowded areas. Anyway, do what you can to protect yourself and others, but get out and exercise and enjoy yourself in a responsible manner. Take care everyone.

    Its ok riding ur mtb, exercising etc, thats not the issue. The main issue is people not following social distancing, its ok to ride as long as you’re solo. You never know if your riding budies were exposed. I worked in a healthcare settings, ive seen it. If u even get exposed (not confirmed positive) it will be one of your worst 3-5days waiting for ur result and hoping to be negative, and your close ones are the one that going to suffer during those days

    Don't disagree with the riding but your numbers are wrong. You are saying 0.014% and 0.035%. It would be 1.4% and 3.5% (eg. 360/1047 then *100 for %), much more significant. Also, antibodies and a strong immune system are great for the young and healthy, we can still rely on an effective vaccine for the vulnerable and immune compromised; which will also help us. Your rant becomes a little unclear but I realize you have a direct stake in this, and we all want to get out riding!

    • @TommyHuynh
      @TommyHuynh  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you are right its 0.014 or 1.4% not 0.014%.. my issue is the media making it out that everyone has it and everyone is going to die unless you stay in your house. This is not a lockdown, people are allowed to go outside. I actually know a few elected city and county officials who confirmed that we are not on a lock down and people are encouraged to go out and exercise and if they use the county parks to just follow social distancing rules. They just don't want people playing basketball or any sports with close contact, mountain biking is fine. The fact is there is an extremely low percentage of people infected. With a total of 1,299 confirmed Covid 19 cases in OC with 3,176,000 people that is 0.0004 or .04% of the population. People will get infected and most will recover. We need to protect the elderly and those at risk. The high majority of people will survive and build antibodies which will help find treatment.

      @@TommyHuynh totally agree with everything you said there. People getting out riding is not gonna be the problem. I'm hoping they don't close OC parks now with other people coming in, some OC sheriff's already seem to think (wrongly) it's closed.

    It's cool you are supporting the doctors and nurses right now, but putting yourself at risk is the exact opposite of supporting them. I don't have an issue with you biking because I still go, but hitting trails where you can destroy yourself is pretty dumb right now. What if you broke your collar bone from the rock slam, then you would of had to go to the hospital where people who actually have the virus are? Not only would you take up doctors/nurses time and resources to be treated in the ER when they should be focusing on the virus patients, you even could get the virus yourselfs from going there. To make things better when you break a bone, your immune system tanks while your body is trying to heal itself, try adding covid with a broken bone, sound fun?. Also there have been studies when exercising with others that the 6ft rule needs to be extended to nearly 20 meters just for running, imagine what it should be for biking. You make cool videos but you aren't being responsible, I get you have the itch to ride but come on lol

    • @TommyHuynh
      @TommyHuynh  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahahaha typical. It's dumb for me to ride trails that are gnarly to you but it's ok to ride your XC trails. As if it's not possible for you to fall and break your collar bone on an XC trail or even slip and fall on your stairs at home. The trails I ride are as challenging to me as your trails are to you.

    • @Twisted_Biscuit
      @Twisted_Biscuit 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@TommyHuynh Your logic is way flawed lol. It's extremely less likely for me to break myself if I fell on an XC going 5-10mph up hill than your DH trails. I have chosen to avoid trails like this because of the current world's situation. It sucks but I get to live to ride another day. Sure they both are challenging in their own way, but the challenges of XC or more mental where the challenges of DH are more like avoid clipping a pedal on a boulder so I dont get hucked 30+ ft down a rock garden. Its funny because all these pro bikers and bike YT channels are even preaching avoid the gnar. It's common sense man, you don't wanna put yourself in the hospital right now.
