One of my worst OTB! Tunnel Trail and First Ride Down Jesusita / PART 2: Santa Barbara MTB 11/24/20

- This is Part 2 of our ride in Santa Barbara on Nov 24, 2020. I had so much footy I had to break it into 2 edits. Part 1 is our run down Cold Springs, this video is our run down Tunnel and Jesusita.
I had one of my worst crashes today. I was leading with Big Booty Chris behind me getting some follow cam. We were smashing really good and I got a little too cocky and didn't give enough respect to this trail and paid the consequences. If you have ridden TUNNEL you know how nasty this trail is and I ate it on the gnarliest section, I was going faster than I should have picked the wrong line, my front got hung up on a boulder and I went OTB, flew face first into a boulder. If I wasn't wearing a full face I would have lost all my teeth. Unfortunately my @gopro took some of the impact and the rear LCD shattered when it slammed against the helmet 😪 I'm just lucky to be able to walk away from this one. I was seeing stars, hearing bells and lost some feeling in my right hand for a few minutes there. I took a few minutes to gather myself before getting back on the bike and riding down. I hiked back up to hit the same line to get redemption, I made it through that section but got caught up on the boulders about 10 yards away. I got on my bike and tried to finish this section which is the nastiest section on the trail, it is reallu steep with huge boulders. On the last section I wasn't going fast enough to get over the boulder and went OTB again. Watching back the video and listening to myself speak I'm pretty sure I had a concussion and it probably wasn't a good idea to try to ride that section. I am just grateful I was able to walk away from those crashes.
After Tunnel we hit Jesusita. We met Grey on the Tunnel. He is from San Luis Obispo and we were stoked to find out he watches the channel. He is familiar with these trails so he showed us how to get to Jesusita. The climb to get to Jesusita was brutal, most of the sections were too steep to climb so we had to hike a bike for about a mile. I have had a lot of people tell me to hit this trail up and it was on the list for long time. The trail was cool but honestly not really worth the climb especially when we have a shuttle.

Man! I live in SB and want to get back into riding !! Used to ride back in highschool but with BMX BIKes mainly did trail riding and we didn't have cars so it was our main transportation back when I lived in thousand oaks , hometown. Then started working. Bought our cars and just didn't have time to ride, I still have my bike but its atleast 12 years old! Hoping to buy a mtb next year and get back into it! These videos are a huge throwback on what we used to do with no suspension, till date I don't think I ever fell. I'll definitely be following

I had one of those days 7 weeks ago. OTB 2X. Not really sure which one did it but I broke my hand. I’ll see the Doc next week and am hoping to be cleared to start riding again !!!

I try to get hooked up with these cats to ride a few months ago and they gave me the cold shoulder. I've been riding this trail for 15 years and it never gets old but it's always great to find another person motivated enough to get to the trail and ride it Time after Time again no matter how numb your hands get on the way down. I called you before but never got a return call to share a ride day with you guys.

Love when you have the GoPro on Chris. Unbelievable how effortless he looks. I've really been trying to mimic his positioning. Obviously easier said than done. I think he's just got better vision, almost like a hockey player who could just see a play develop.

Was gonna tell ya I did a parody of your intros on my latest video cuz I had a slow speed OTB... But now it seems less funny. Glad you had the full face on and walked away. Riding post crash is really tough. Coming from BMX I take concussions and knowing when to call it very seriously. Unfortunately being stuck in the middle of a mountain is a bit different from being at a skatepark 20 feet from a parking lot.
Take care of yourself. Jordan Boostmaster took some bad crashes and tried to continue riding too soon after and ended up with debilitating concussion symptoms. Onset headaches and light sensitivity. You're more useful to us as a friend, father, businessman than a mountain biker. Stay safe brotha
Yeah you're absolutely right, when I was editing the footage I realized I definitely had a concussion, when I speaking to Chris I wasn't able to put words together correctly. At the time I thought I was ok but obviously I wasn't

Its not that bad, Cold Springs and Tunnel definitely a lot more gnarly.

Jesusita is ok, its not my type of riding. There are some.fun chunky sections bit way too much pedaling for me

Tommy is on 27.5, definitely catches on gnar a bit more than a 29er.
Honestly I know a bunch of guys on 29er that struggle on this trail. The bigger wheel will help a little bit but it won't be a game changer, this trail will beat you up no what bike you have

Not sure if I remember stairs, that trail really didn't have anything gnarly. My gopro ran out of batteries so not sure if it was after that
@@TommyHuynh it’s just before the rock slab in your video. Some steep stairs after the last sets of switchbacks. All good. It’s our local trail to hit after work because it’s quick.

Watch the video again, you will see my finger is pointing straight im not touching the brakes. Believe me when I say gopro doesn't do justice to their trail especially at that section. Most people walk that section.

What's the appeal of riding over rocky boulder trails like that? I enjoy watching you guys attack that terrain but it doesn't appeal to me, maybe being 75 and crashing has something to do with it. 😲
Hahahaha this is actually my favorite trail. Doing something thats difficult and scary is satisfying when you accomplish it. Doing something easy doesn't do any for me.
