Nick, what if we took off the 3.5" props and replaced them with those mellow pitched Gemfan 3"...are they the 3016?Or? And then went with a little bit bigger battery, like an 1100mah 4s...would this double as a decent long range flyer? Mellower pitch on props, longer lasting battery, with slower more cinematic flying. Your Thoughts Please... 🤔😁 Worth a test? I think so!
You should have a manual with the drone, it its on the emax website. If you have a new radio from frsky it likely won't bind to the emax receiver. The emax receiver as seen here emax-usa.com/collections/electronics/products/emax-tiny-d8-receiver uses the d8 frsky protocl, new frsky radios do not support this protocol without a multi module attached to the radio.

with mine ive noticed when i yaw right ,,anything over half stick it jumps up ,,its fine when yaw left and yaw right just over half stick it jumps up ,,,,,why is this happening ,,,,,how can i fix this in beta flight or is it defective
I would check the stick movements in betaflight first. Also check the mounting of the board to see if its lose or has broken mount. It could be i term windup. Try lowering I on yaw to see if that helps. Its odd if your the first two are good that the pid tune would be the issue as emax does a nice job sending these out with a good tune.

I have not made a video on the wiring needed for the dji remote. Nick I have a large zip tie protecting my antenna & after 4 months of pounding it into the ground numerous times it’s still fine
right now one defining issue is babyhawk II HD is HD/DJI only, we must have the DJI goggles. If we have the goggles, the longer flights of the babyhawk II HD is likely the next deciding factor. They fly very very similarly, also we have to decide if we want prop options or not, the BabyHawk II HD is using a unique prop, which we don't have other options in the 3.5inch size with t-style mounting.

I had not noticed that. Interesting find there.
Worth a test? I think so!
We could even go further, with those props and a lion 3300mah battery discharging down to 2.2v/cell. I bet it would fly for 25+mins.
Hey perhaps I missed it but did you mention the motor mounting? Emax has this irritating proprietary thing 🙄
No proprietarty motor mouning on this one, they used their emax eco motors which is standard 9mm x 9mm mounting.
Do you have the PID’s tuning with the 850mah batt?
used the pid tune it came with. No custom pid tune from me.
@@NickBurnsFPV waw thanks for your answer!
There is one other 3.5inch prop I can think of it's the Iflight Protek 35 ducted style prop.
unfortunately that prop isn't t-style mount.
Hello sir could you do a video on bind process with this drone and the frsky receiver I was having a hard time
You should have a manual with the drone, it its on the emax website.
Hey mate great vids and sweet review, could I ask what your pid and rates are you were using in this vid, ive just got mine and would love to try your settings please, thanks again
I used betaflight rate. Pitch and Roll 1.2, Pitch and Roll Super Rate .75. Yaw 1.30, Yaw super rate .80
Max has some great props.
Did you use your TX16S flying this? FRSKY?
No. I used the DJI controller.
with mine ive noticed when i yaw right ,,anything over half stick it jumps up ,,its fine when yaw left and yaw right just over half stick it jumps up ,,,,,why is this happening ,,,,,how can i fix this in beta flight or is it defective
Does emax normally sell the frames separately? I've been trying to decide between building a 3" or 4" sub 250 maybe 3.5" is the answer 😃
They do sell, but it generally comes some weeks after the product launch.
My first impusle buy in a long time. I got an email from Pyrodrone and clicked buy before reading the complete details. I just have a really good feeling about this one. It checks alot of boxes for me.
Hi Mate, did you put an action cam on it? How did you recorded the audio? Good review and flight! 👍
the sound isn't from the quad, it's most likely from a different recording device. Overlayed onto the fpv footage.
I just got mine in and it seems mine has way more jello in the camera, any tips? Thank you
check the screws to ensure they are tight. Also look at the print to ensure its not cracked or otherwise loose.
@@NickBurnsFPV Thank you sir, that was the first thing I did, sadly it didn’t work. It does kinda look like the print is a little shorter on one side. Thank you for your time.
@@Jinkzed01 might have to do something temporary like wedge some firm foam under the camera. If you have a 3d printer you might be able print another provided the print/stl is available.
There already are other 3,5 inch props, for example the ones for the protect 35
Oh, I think they aren't t-mount
They are 3.5, but yes not tmount
@@Sircleanfpv oh yeah. Well those are some wacky props, most people probably wouldn’t fly those open air anyways
@@dauntlessfpv yes, but still I think the market will grow for 3,5 inch drones
So which transmitter works with it?
Dji transmitter with vista.. or you install your own reciever and transmitter
right now it will work with either dji radio or it can be bought with the emax frsky d8 receiver. I don't recommend the d8 receiver, if we don't have the dji radio we should add our own receiver for the radio we do have.
Depends on what you install for a receiver and what transmitter you use. You can install any receiver so it will fly with any transmitter. You Decide! 😎👍
isn't the iflight protek 35 a 3.5" also?
You are right! I hadn't noticed that one.
Oh, that's the one I was thinking of. lol
I think this is one of the more interesting products because you get rather easy under 250g even with dji fpv...
But if you would use 3.5inch props on a toothpick you could get some of the leavefyness like a 3 inch has and some power like a 4 inch...
maybe we need a 3.5 inch prop witch is comparable to the 3016Gimfan props and some thick motors like the 2202 ones by kabab to make a 3.5inch Toothpick ....
*Pls don't rush out there and by stuff for that and then be sad that it flies like crap this was only thought up ;)*
I like what Emax is doing here especially the flightime and Performance is Neath but i think this kind of frame design maby isn't that use full at 3,5 inch for dji maybe
but i think we need more testing to be Shure about that
but stiff a worthy quad
nice flying, great review, and i believe those caps installed are 35v 470uf.
Thank you. Could you make it out in the video, or based on size?
@@NickBurnsFPV i saw the official photo of the board upclose from emax. So i guess this board can take only 4s.
Hey nick i am having issues with my babyhawk 2 hd ...i am using the dji fpv system and I can't get it to stop saying low power mode can not record? Have you heard of anything like this?
trying to start recording before arming. Two options, disable temperature on the vtx via the goggles, or set the goggles to record on arm.
have you updated to betaflight 4.3?
@@martincosta9961 no i have not. If a quad flies well I don't update. Updating means more time setup and re-tuning and less time flying. I don't see a reason to update to the latest BF version.
I like how they are able to make a top mounted frame without props in view and not a deadcat but more of a squished x so still retains some good flight characteristics.
exactly what you are saying happen to me the positive side came off as well as the capacitor and i didnt even fly it yet.... man i was not happy, but all and all it worked out and after the first flight i forgot all about my crappy soldier job.
Another great review. I dont know what I would do with your Micro channel. I'm huge micro fan. Glad to see the 3.5" getting some love. IMO we dont have enough. I think 3.5" is the new 3" I converted my Twig and WeMix to 3.5" six months ago and haven't looked back. Granted you do have to be careful with the KV of your motors and amp draw. But definitely worth looking into especially on a lighter build. I actually love those scimitar props just wish they had some different colors like transparent gray to better deal with the props in view. The orange can be annoying.
Thank you. I agree I would like to see some color variation. They are sticking to the brand colors.
Looks nice, is there a Shark Byte version planned? Perhaps one without camera+VTX so we can add our own?
Not to my knowledge, but I can ask.
@@NickBurnsFPV That would be great, one without camera+VTX would be the easiest for them to produce, I have 3 Shark Byte cameras + VTX's ready to install in quads (already installed one in a TinyTrainer), and I love how well my Hawk 5's & Hawk Sport fly with Emax's tunes.
@@licensetodrive9930 When I hear back I will post on the community page, or just hit me up on FB or email in a few days. No word yet from emax.
No sharkbyte version in the works. Seems as though that isn't on the radar at all at this time.
@@NickBurnsFPV Oh well, thank you very much for checking it out, I'll have to see about making my own 4" long-flight-time craft with Shark Byte because my favourite flight style is flow-freestyle, not the hectic bando freestyle flying but out on top of hills swooping over the mounds and in their dips.
Hey Nick. Do you know if there is or will be an analog version of this quad? It looks great and I like that fact that they moving away from proprietary part mountings.
I don't know at this moment, but I have asked the question. If I had to bet they don't have an analog version planned, but might if they see a demand for it.
Just got word back from Emax, no analog version in the works. They did leave it open to have it later.
You should spend a week here in the UK, mid August when we get our long weekend of nice sunny weather, or the British summer as we call it. You'll never complain about the weather in your part of the Union again! Lol
I am greedy aren't I. I should be more thankful.
Amazing flying and review, Nick!!! 😃
Pretty interesting little quad! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Great looking quad ! I’m curious where we would mount the immortal T if where going to run crossfire? Also how would you rate this one over the avant 4” quad you recently reviewed ? Performance wise. Thanks Nick. All the best !
I suspect we have to zip tie the immortal t to the arms, or a tpu print to mount it to. I prefer this 3.5incher, it feels more responsive and more agile.
@@NickBurnsFPV Thanks Nick. Ordered this one.
@@fpvnycdream_4197 Hopefully it arrives quickly
@@NickBurnsFPV it’s on the way. Should arrive early next week. I’m just concerned about getting my hands on more props. They seem to be sold out everywhere 🤦♂️
@@fpvnycdream_4197 yes, I am hearing getting props is a struggle right now. Thankfully the emax props are pretty stiff and robust, hopefully they will hold out until more stock is available to purchase.
What a great review as always, Nick. Ordered one. The props are now available, and I found the crossfire version in stock so I got it coming.
I would hope emax makes loads of those props. We will see nearly every company will be making a 3.5incher this summer. :)
@@NickBurnsFPV agreed, it actually took quite a while to get the props in stock but they finally have them. I saw that GepRC released their 3.5in too but it has the nebula nano on it, due to the chip shortage. 🤢
what will happen if i plugged in 4s 1500mah ? is it safe to fly with that battery?
We can use it but I would be careful hitting full throttle or full throttle on a descent. The weight can test the esc with the battery weight
Any spare uarts for a crossfire receiver?
While I didn't test crossfire the board only has two uarts. One is needed for msp/osd for the vista.
@@NickBurnsFPV seems the frsky version uses d8 mode, strange that I cant find a crossfire receiver option
@@reynolds81 Not unsual for emax. They tend to only sell it with their own receiver. We would have to add our own receiver.
@@NickBurnsFPV is the other uart inverted so to accommodate sbus? Just trying to suss if I can install crossfire because if I cant then the quad is a no go for me
@@reynolds81 To be sure I should ask emax. I don't use crossfire that much. Can't we run crossfire in sbus "mode"? We can often turn off the inversion via cli, but I could see there be a risk if by chance the board wouldn't allow that. I have a few questions out to emax. When I hear back I will post their response on the community tab. Or hit me up in the comments, FB messenger or email to remind me. Thank you
Not seeing any reverse polarity protection.
What quad does have reverse polarity protection?
@@NickBurnsFPV All of mine, from now on...
Do you know the motor to motor size of the frame?
emax website says 155mm, which seems likely as my calipers only go to 150mm.
@@NickBurnsFPV awesome thanks!!!
How are you recording audio?
secondary camera sitting on the table, then in video editing I sync it.
That things rips! Sooooo smooth!
You think a GoPro will fit on this?
Yes it will.
Great frame! Strong and no real resonation like a lot of smaller frames.. looks like I'll have to get one when It's analog and just put the Shark Byte on it and I think it would make a cleaner build. Also surprised at the video quality of the nebula pro but then realized that YT put your video in the lower codec..
Many many asking for an analog version. emax said they have no plans for analog, but surely they are hearing enough about the lack of analog. I didn't check the stats for nerds, wonder why the lower codec. Been uploaded for days before publishing. I guess this little channel doesn't get the good stuff always :(
I did ask about a shark byte version, and the response was "no plans for that". I think emax might be a smaller company than I thought. They indicated they don't have the staff to have several versions.
How does this compare to the gtr349?
A bit hard to compare as the 349 didn't have a vista option. With that the 349 has more immediate response and likely all out faster as well.
@@NickBurnsFPV thanks. Am comparing the babyhawk 2 with the r349 and skyzone d135, and it looks like the d135 is not only cheaper but not too bad with different props. Which would you personally get out of the three, with price in mind?
@@M00nsave445 Well I think we can rule out the Babyhawk II HD, unless we buy used, last I heard from Emax they have no stock and don't think they will have stock for 3-6months. I am not a fan of the d135, seems half hazard, weird prop choices, the tune isn't good, the canopy doesn't give me confidence it will last long. I think for what you can buy the r349 is the best between it and the d135.
@@NickBurnsFPV I see. Which goggles do u use for the r349? Where I live the r349 is 50% more than the d135. That's quite a difference. But then am not certain which had more parts readily available

Pitch and roll are 1.2 and .7, yaw is 1.3 and .8
@@NickBurnsFPV for both rc rate and super rate?
@@cheechfpv RC Rate is listed first super rate second.
Avio or babyhawk?
right now one defining issue is babyhawk II HD is HD/DJI only, we must have the DJI goggles.
Your dead air moments are pretty good.

Best thing about it was a solar heater installed on the roof that pumped up water through a PVC pipe that led to many of these little tubes... mauve 1/4 - 1/2" outside diameter... the water slowly trickled down the tubes. When the sun was a blazing on it, it would heat the water fantastically! Saved tons of money on heating it... so much so, it was my only source of heating! I highly suggest!
