SISTEC MR incorrect , the Mavic Pro won’t gain the extra time with the Mavic Pro. Platinum props, the platinum has updated escs that gave it the extra time, however the props would make the Mavic Pro slightly quieter

Thanks for the good review. Since I have been flying my Mavic Pro for over a year, I will stay with that for now. If a Mavic Pro II is released then I will likely upgrade to that rather than get a Mavic Air.

Great comparison. And of course amazing videos. But you did not mention the gimbal protection. Air is definitely better. This was the reason I returned Mavic Pro as the gimbal is too exposed and very fragile. I have got Air and it does look well protected.
Yep the AIR have a better protection and it's somehow built in the body and not too exposed... 😉

My P4P+ arrived today (looks nice - hope it can justify the AU$3,800 cost), and as soon as I have time to activate it etc, I will be trying out some of your techniques. I wish I had settled for the Mavic now. The Air looks a little small, but after seeing this vid I am sure my next purchase will be just that.

Hi Mauro, could you make a video on flying speed? I think (I know) it's crucial in obtaining that cinematic look and yet it is rarely if ever covered anywhere. Flying speed at certain altitudes and for certain shots to give that cinematic feel.
The AIR have some 4 KMH faster speed in Sport Mode, in normal mode they are kinda the same 👍
Sorry I meant at what speed to fly for those cinematic shots (manually and in Intelligent modes)! Not a comparison

Hey... Grazia.. wlell i know that in that test maybe is not so visible but in the AIR you don't get the jittery image and pulsating trees and mushy shadows. look one of my older videos when i am filming in not so bright situations. The mushy footage is really visible on the PRO. 😉👍👍👍 (i would have tested with different situations but i would need at least 2-4 batteries more charged per day and it's really hard to fly the same path with two drones)

nice video Mauro but I'm still not smarter. Time wins in a comparison, the Mavic Air, sometimes the Mavic Pro. Waiting for the Mavic Pro II? The quality of the videos is very different. I do not know if this is due to the settings or the product spread at DJI.
i used the carbon quiet blades and i cant believe how quiet they are much better than the cheap version
And much more dangerous😅😜😆
maybe but any drone is if not used correctly but id sooner have a quiet one than that awefull buzz

Great comparison video! I have a question: How long will the controller last? I might be on a trekking expedition in the mountains for 18 days with no chance to recharge (unless i take solar panels). How long will the controller, and also the mobile phone, last? I was thinking of getting a power bank if i have to recharge the controller and also having 3 batteries for the drone.
The controller will last approx for 4-5 batteries. Depending on the mobile phone... a 3 batteries flight will discharge your phone in a percentage from 10 to 50%. Bring a powerbank. ;-)
Great comparison. Although, I wouldn't trade my Mavic Pro for Air. What about slow motion. On Air, is it usable? I saw and heard 1080p 120fps looks bad, but whatabout 2.7k 60p

The best quality goes to the mavic pro, The mavic air is over saturate and less sharpness if you pay attention ! But cool video man!

Hello brother for my opinion mavic pro can fly further up to 9km / h mavic air can not afford to fly far to 5 km / j only and I think mavic pro can fly in moderate or strong wind but mavic air can not afford to fly in strong wind conditions and worst of all about mavic air always cut off contact with remote control if flying so far any mavic pro is best it is up to its fans okk thanks for your info byyy

I agree with you that the mavic air can't fly as far as the pro, but as for handling the wind the mavic air is a champ at doing it. I fly my mavic air in up to 25mph wind gust with no problem, so to say the mavic air can't handle the wind like the pro is false. Oh also the Mavic air is more aerodynamic than the pro in my oppion. as for as connection from remote to the bird my mavic air is rock solid, if I am flying in congested wifi area i switch to 5.8G auto and the connection is rock solid, when I am out away form congested wifi area 2.4G. So if you know what you are doing you can have rock solid connection with Mavic Air.

Whats better for fishing? I need a drone that i can use to fly my bait out with four to eight ounce lead.
The Mavic Pro also avoids obstacles in Active Track and RTH. It also has Dynamic Home point, while the mavic air does not. The Mavic Pro does Waypoints, while the Mavic Air does not. 10 minutes more flight time is much better. I'll pass on the Mavic Air (a nice selfie drone).

I don't think it's correct to call the Air a "Selfie drone". For any serious filmmaker, the Air's 100mpbs is a huge advantage vs. the Mavic Pro. I've been editing 60mbps Inspire 1 X3 camera footage for the past few years, and it totally falls apart in post due to the low data rate. Trying to match it to GH4 / GH5 footage is a nightmare. For this reason, the Air is a more serious filmmaking tool than the Pro.
Yes, one year later DJI could incorporate some improvements in the camera. Still, if you look a the "intelligent fly modes", the limitations in battery life, wifi only, and the size of the Mavic Air, you realize it is a "selfie" drone. The best "selfie" drone right now with a very good camera that can be used by professional occasional work. You're correct that some people will find it useful because of the camera, but some people will see the other limitations outweigh the nice camera.

The video qualitz i far better in the AIR .... better bitrate and better image rendering. there is no jittering and the slightly softer image gives it a perfect cinematic image.

for sure man! i've been flying the mavic pro for work... but when i saw the air i was in love. after comparing a lot of videos and going to a DJI store, i was still confused, beucase they're both great and there's that mavic pro 2 rumour.... but i think after your comparison i'm leaning towards the Air. I think i will wait for March to see what happens with the Pro 2, and then make up my mind!!

Thanks a lot for the follow. I was filming today music spot in a large hall with ISO800 in the AIR and the picture is waaaaaaaaay more clear and less noisy than the PRO.. The image processor on the AIR is the same as the P4P. I can't believe...

Hi, I have question about Mavic Air remote controller. This remote have also small propeller inside like Mavic Pro controller for heating electronics inside remote? Because my Mavic Air remote is quite and I don’t hear anything from inside...
Hey Michael, the small propellers inside the controller are for cooling the electronics not for heating. I din't notice the propeller yet on the Air controller coz it's so cold outside that i keep hard time to eaven warm up the batteries to have a safe flight so the propeller doesn't have to turn on...

Mauro, what about the focus options on both and your experience/needs regarding this topic. Mavic AIR doe not have focusing option. Isn' it?
There is noo focus points on the AIR. No touch to focus. Everything is in focus =)
But Mavic pro has focusing fetaure. Could this help you in filming?

I have the mavic pro, and just got the mavic air... I'm fairly unsatisfied with the air! My biggest complaint is the video you receive directly back to the controller. It is full of stutters, and cut outs. The actually video played back is very nice. But while flying it looks like crap. And it doesn't get vary far before that becomes an issue
If you are in a congested wifi area switch to 5.8G auto, if you don't you will have this problem.
That would make sense... but I'm far from a congested area. I'm what ya might call out in the sticks.
Well thats strange....from my drive way I launch the Mavic Air fly out over the lake with half a mile of trees in between me and the lake. Flew out 7500ft on 5.8GZ before deciding to bring it back from being over the water. Out in the sticks on 2.4GZ I got 2.5mi before getting that warning I only have enough battery for return home. Sorry that you are having problem with video signal etc, thats not my experience with the Mavic Air thus far.

Hey... I flew it about 400-500 m from me and it was all good. (Mountains) without any signal interference. i didn't have any problems with the range. In more crowded populated areas it could make the difference and maybe the PRO is a better option. Note: i don't need range more than 500m. So for me is exellent.

One question for you Mauro! How often would you experience signal drop from your Mavic Air to your phone? (if at all) I'm on the fence between these two drones because of this one thing.
I never fly too far to actually experience an signal drop or cut off... You will be always fine on 500-600 m.

I like the Pro, but what do you think? Cause I don't want the Wi-Fi Connection to drop or make the connection view of the photos laggy or freeze due to connection.

mavic air for people wants to make close video not too far enjoy the footage and very nice but mavic pro only people who want to go further get more detail better shot 4km very good footage your choice will it depends you never get wrong to get one for me i chose mavic pro the controller are amazing if your apps get disconnect you can see on the remote screen how high how far you are 100% point right there you can see your mavic pro on the Mavic air remote control once you lose connection so hard to bring it back which you get worry to far away you don't have sight the wifi sometime when mavic air to far away get Glitch while mavic pro they using OcuSync which mavic air don't have. ^^

I don't get mavic air footage like that at all when I have stuff on auto. Stuff seems extremely overexposed so Im trying to see which settings I should use.
Manual filming is always better to get the best performance in your image😉

How did you set the obstacle avoidance on? I watched other videos and they were not able to get the drone to avoid the obstacles.
Hey Kim, you just select the APAS on the left corner on the screen and toggle it on. It does all the job by itself. You have to be in normal mode.

MAURO'S FILMS rumours say it should be out by end of August and have a larger image sensor so probably worth the wait. But right now pro is about $50 cheaper than air for fly more from DJI on Amazon. Still going to wait it out though.

Does Mavic Air controller fits Iphone 7/8 with a case? I know that on pro you need to take your phone out of the case, and i really dont like that cuz you are "stretching" your smartphone case
