So only cleaned the pickup filter but left the sludge? Wouldn't the sludge just recreate the issue once it's loosened up? Or did you blast that whole area with brake clean or something as well to bring it back to a more usable condition?
Yes it will happen again, years later. But this will outlast the engine. The oil will dilute any remaining sludge bits and hopefully incrementally break it down. Oil changes just need to be done every 3-4k vs whatever he was doing

Usually in the pennastar it’s the roller rocker going out and then shaving the camshaft down that most metal fragments in oil come from
