    Thanks for posting this video. My 2013 5.7 with 153000 miles got the p1524 code I replaced my pressure sensor and the light was still on. After watching your video I changed my oil and replaced my small Stp filter with the larger Mopar Mo-899 filter and that fixed the problem! Thanks

    This exact issues just happened to my 2020 Ram 1500 limited. The dealer told me the code that was displayed was incorrrect oil used. I had Amsoil 5w-20 installed with Amsoil filter. I told the dealership there’s no way it could be the oil. They s said they saw the same issue on another Ram truck using Amsoil. They never tested the oil pressure and I couldn’t find anything about incorrect oil when searching that code. The service writer said he remembers me bringing in my own oil and that I need to be installing the correct oil. They even wriote this on the work order which ticked me off because this is something they can use against me if I have an issue later on. Thanks so much for posting this. You’ve been a tremendous help. I’ll let you know how it goes

    Firstly Thank You to the original poster of this video, I really appreciate the time you spent to explain your situation. Now for my story if it helps someone else: I popped a P1524 on my 2015 Ram 1500 with 5.7l Hemi. Oil pressure was only 34psi at 1700 rpm at 59 mph and I had recently started getting a rattle or vibration sound that came as the mds turned on or off and could be made to go away by forcing a gear change. It drove me nuts as this truck has 209000 miles and has had nothing but 5w20 penzoil synthetic and kn oil filters since ive owned it from 110000. Well the oil change system showed 30% left oil life but I went ahead today and changed the oil and filter with 5w20 Penzoil platinum synthetic, a bbottle of STP synthetic oil treament (16ish oz gold bottle) and switched from my normal kn oil filter to a mopar M0-899. Great results as now i have 54psi at 1700 rpm at 59 mph. The filter is a bit tighter to put on but fits fine on my 2015 4x4 model. Id guess that the kn filter is to blame here but can't begin to explain why. As a side note my normal 7 quart oil change did require slightly more oil eith the new larger filter and it took quite a bit of manipulation while prefilling the filter to get the air burped out. All in all happy to see such a cheap easy fix, bravo!

    Thanks so much for this video. I also have a 2016 Ram 5.7 with the same error code and rattle. I changed to the Mopar filter and changed the oil and the error code and rattle are gone. You saved me a ton of money and I kind of doubt that most service shops would have had a hard time figuring this problem out.

My 2017 just threw this code like a week ago and I should still have over 1000 miles before an oil change, still have good oil levels, I heard that clicking/vibration a couple times and was ready to light the truck on fire. MO-599 filter is the best to use. Its the factory filter. These engines were designed to use Mopar factory parts. The brand and type of oil doesnt really matter. Any brand 5W20 with the ASE and API certification will do just fine as long as you change your oil every 3000 miles on these HEMIs. My truck with the Gen III is about to hit 200,000 miles and I've not had any lifter issues or oil pressure issues, other than the normal low volume/ pressure issues. My 2010 holds 32 psi at idle and 58 psi at 2000 rpm. I would like to see more but that will keep it alive at these stock pressures.

    Good stuff man, thank you! I have always used K&N oil filters. My pressure went from 31 to 53 with just changing the filter to a Purolator Boss. I'm going to try the older version as well during my next change. Luckily I saw this right before I was about to change the switch. I never would've guessed that an oil filter (let alone a "quality" one) would cause this.

    I use Amsoil products in all of my engines, and sure enough, my wife's 2012 5.7 JGC is throwing this code. It does have an Amsoil filter on it, and is likely closing in on it's change mileage. Interesting to see in the comments that many people are experiencing this issue with Amsoil filters. I have one on my pre-Eagle 300c, so now I'm curious what my oil pressure is on that. Obviously, it's not going to throw any VCT codes. My L92 does have VCT, and just got the Amsoil filter on it earlier this year with no issues. So, maybe they had a bad run on the Hemi filters?

    I just had the exact same situation on my 2020 Ram 1500 Limited. I had Amsoil 5w-20 installed along with the Amsoil EA-15K50 oil filter. After bout 4,000 miles, my MIL turned on. I took it to the dealership and they did a bunch of software updates as well as replaced the oil pressure sensor and cleared the code. They took it for a test drive and said everything was fine and the MIL was now off. I left the dealership and about 3 miles into my drive, the MIL came back on. I immediately called the dealership and told them what happened and they scheduled another appointment for me. On the second appointment, they said they went through the remained of the diagnostic tests but didn’t come up with anything. They said the last item that was suggested was to change out oil filter. They changed out the Amsoil oil filter with a Mopar. The MIL is now off and so far so good. If it stays off, I’m tempted to try the Amsoil filter again to see if the MIL goes back on. I spoke with a tech at Amsoil but they weren’t sure why I was receiving that code. I gave them the batch number of my oil filter just in case and I’m holding on to the filter if needed later. I did see about a 10 psi increase in oil pressure with the Mopar filter at idle speed. I really would like to run the Amsoil EA oil filter but at this point, it’s not looking like it will work unless I just had a faulty filter.

    • @attached2mygarage37
      @attached2mygarage37  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't bother with the Amsoil Oil filter. It is an outsourced/third party manufactured item. Their supplier simply makes the filter to the requested specs and slaps an Amsoil sticker on it. Go with the larger size 2012 and older filter and pick anyone of your favorite brands from the local parts store. You won't have this problem again and you'll still be running Amsoil oil which is the important part.

    • @syscam1
      @syscam1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll have to try the older larger filter next oil change but since the truck is under warranty so I just did what the dealer suggested and had them install the Mopar filter. I was using the Amsoil filter because it’s supposed to be an extended life filter made for longer drain intervals. I have been using them for 20 years with no issues until using them in my new Ram. I did see an increase in oil pressure when switching to the Mopar filter. I was running about 58 psi at 1500rpm.

      No oil on dipstick, yikes! Make sure you've refilled your oil until oil appears at the proper level between add/fill line. If the oil disappears after that you either have a massive oil leak or a failure/blockage in the engine oil lubrication system i.e. oil pump or blockage elsewhere in the system. Hope you are able to get things sorted.

    • @attached2mygarage37
      @attached2mygarage37  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Bryan, In my situation the rattling/vibrating engine noise was caused by low oil pressure impeding proper operation of the variable valve timing (VVT) system. The filter change resolved the low oil pressure which resolved the engine trouble code and disruption in the VVT system. If you have not done so already, after your oil filter change, you probably want to clear the trouble codes with a scan tool and drive your vehicle for a few dozen miles over a few stop start cycles to see if the VVT rattle stops. If it does not stop, you may have another issue at hand. Good luck.

    • @attached2mygarage37
      @attached2mygarage37  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rattle was caused by low oil pressure throwing the trouble code which deactivated the Variable Valve Timing system. Changing the faulty / clogged oil filter resolved the low oil pressure issue, clearing the trouble code which in turn resolved the VVT deactivation which was the source of the rattling sound. Try changing your oil filter, even if it’s newish. Hope this helps.

    Check engine light came on yesterday 2-8-21. Brought in to dealer and they told me I had same error code P1524 and it was because I was running Amsoil. I called Amsoil and they said it was not the oil, but the filter (admitted I am not first to complain about this issue with this particular filter and engine). Took back to dealer and had them replace with Mopar filter and full synthetic oil. Pressure levels back to normal. Would prefer to run Amsoil, but with the added cost and hassle of changing at OEM intervals, its cheaper and easier to just have the dealership do it. Could they make getting to this oil filter any more difficult?

  • @BannisterLee

    My dealership is saying that if an oil change doesn't fix it, they will have to clean the entire engine for metal debris, and if that doesn't fix it then a full engine replacement will be needed. I really hope the oil change here is what they do to fix it.

      Nope, new oil filter solved the problem. 50,000 miles later with oil changes at oil life indicator intervals and I’ve never had that problem again

    I have the p1524 code right now on a 18 ram 1500 hemi and am about 3000 miles into Amsoil sig series 5w 20 with the Amsoil filter. I don’t know what to do if I should continue to run the because psi isn’t everything lower psi could mean the oil is flowing with less restriction so it needs less pressure to flow with high volume. I am at 30 psi at idle at temperature. And 35-37 when driving normal 1500 rpm at operating temps. I cleared today with a scan tool and will see if the code comes back or should I change the oil and filter now. Did the OP ever go back to Amsoil with the bigger filter?

      Hi Jake, sounds like you are having the exact same problem I had.
      Short answer, Yes. Back to normal PSI with Amsoil and larger Purolator filter. We also run the same setup in my son's 2013 Ram. All good.
      Long answer: I also cleared the code several times with my scan tool. It continued to come back when I had the faulty Amsoil EA filter on. I suggest changing the oil filter as soon as possible because your oil filter is clogged up and in bypass. Basically since the oil can't get through the filtration media its just flowing straight through with no filtration to keep up with the engine oil pump demand. This means you are circulating dirty oil through your engine. I also suggest getting another brand larger 2012 and older size filter. Your oil and engine will be much happier.
      Once you change the filter, save the old Amsoil filter and contact Amsoil to let them know what happened. They will most likely ask you to return it so they can inspect to see if the filter was in fact clogged or faulty. If it's faulty you'll probably get a refund or replacement (I would take the refund).

      @Attached2MyGarage I just put in a fram ultra synthetic and had 56psi at start up and 30 psi at 208f at 500 rpm I cleared my code p1524 it has not come back on yet but my pressures are pretty much the same. I have only driven 5 miles or so I will update if the code comes back. Ps I topped oil off with one whole quart of Amsoil signature series 5w20.

    You did not give the pressure after the fix.
    Seems that your pressure is too low. Mine is a 2014. W/ 50 + lbs . Try Grease lightning Zink/Teflon Additive. It cleared my code instantly. Cherrs. Sir!

    • @attached2mygarage37

      Hi Matthew - Changing my oil filter got my oil pressure back in range eliminating the VCT trouble code. In this video I also suggest opting for the larger pre-2012 Hemi oil filter size. More filtering media to help prevent clogging the filter.

    • @attached2mygarage37
      @attached2mygarage37  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Leaving the clogged oil filter forces the filter into bypass. This means you will be running unfiltered oil through your engine over and over. Long term this will create premature wear on many critical surfaces including the cylinder. Changing the oil depends how long you've been running it with a clogged filter. If using Amsoil, you can send the oil in for analysis and Amsoil will tell you if it's time to change the oil.
      Not to mention continuing to run your truck with a trouble code long term will hurt your trucks feelings:)

    Did you try the larger filter yet? I just did the same thing (was using the Amsoil filter) and used the larger one, pressure at idle went from 29 to 50. Haven't driven it yet, did you have any issues with the pressure being high after using the larger filter?

    • @attached2mygarage37
      @attached2mygarage37  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I put the larger filter on my son's 2013 and all is working well. I'll put the larger one on my 2016 next oil change.
      As long as your oil pressure is between 25 - 110PSI you know your oil pump is working. The trouble code comes into play if your PSI never exceeds 42PSI. That's where the variable cam timing kicks in. So based on your above comment going from 29 (does not exceed VCT trigger) up to 50 (VCT trigger achieved) you should be in good order with no more trouble code.
      Thanks for watching a commenting.

    Swapped the Amsoil high micron filter out today for a new wix filter did not change the oil. I went from 25 psi at idle to 38 psi immediately and 61 psi at 3,000 rpm. I believe the Amsoil filter was plugged at 7,300 miles and the ecm was bypassing hence dropping the pressure hence disabling the vct system hence throwing the p1524 code

      I have just done the same and the MIL has not cleared but noticeable difference on oil pressure gauge with WIX filter. BTW, Amsoil is not recommending that filter anymore and advising to get a WIX. Waiting to see if the code clears itself or will I have to get a mechanic to clear it.

    That’s why I stick to oem oil filters eliminates the headaches and guess work, this truck was tested with the oem filter installed not some aftermarket filter that’s not made to specs of the manufacturer just because it screws on doesn’t mean it’s working correctly internally..don’t let a non tested aftermarket filter blow your 10k engine it’s not worth it to be arguing and fighting with your dealership over who’s fault it is when your engine goes left.. when a problem arises the oil filter company and engine manufacturer will be pointing fingers at each other and you’ll be left holding the bag.. can you afford to have your truck sitting at the dealership while they play the blame game? Can you afford a lawyer that will fight for you to get engine work performed?? Use oem filter along with proper spec oil weight and quality and oil changes performed on time and that removes all doubt and then you can’t be blamed for anything
