At 8:10 It's a technique called a pinch harmonic where you pick the string then 'catch' the string with the edge of your thumb immediately after plucking. If done right, you'll catch what is called a node and an upper harmonic will sound instead of the fundamental.
As a couple other commenters noted, the squeals Dime gets are called pinch harmonics. They're accomplished by holding the pick really close to the end, like "choking up" on it, and letting a teensy part of your finger touch the string simultaneously with the pick. That creates a node way up there near the end of the string (as opposed to a natural harmonic, done by hitting a natural node point closer to the center of the string, say, at the 12th, 7th, or 5th fret). It really helps to have distortion to make them sound out, but it's also possible to do it on a nylon string classical, with your bare thumb and nail.
Dime did use pinch harmonics sometimes, but his signature squeal is not. It was his own variation of a divebomb. He would dump the whammy bar then tap a harmonic (usually 5th fret on G) the harmonic mixed with distortion would start a squeal. He then would realese the whammy bar and push it the opposite way. As the string tension went back up, so would the pitch of the squeal.
@@RMZrider12 yea, the short riffs like the ending with the small bends in them are pinch where his long squeals are created up on the neck. He was very talented. Doing those types of squeals allows the addition of harmonics when a certain pattern of alternate picking doesnt permit it like when you "up pick" its much harder to pinch harmonic if possible at all.

Obviously you can’t mean my head is an apartment and if it was I would definitely charge them so it wouldn’t be free. Are you asking why people remember things they dislike? If someone breaks their arm at fifteen and recalls the memory at thirty, would you ask them why they remember it, because it was an unpleasant experience? The false premise here is that people only remember things that are pleasant. So I could ask you whether the memory of this comment, that you find so distasteful because you happen to like Metallica (and therefore react to it defensively) is living in your head rent free? See how stupid that thought process is once it’s been dismantled and exposed?

Sometimes even better
Listen to a song by them called "Shattered" the vocals are insane!
My dad loves to tell a story of losing his hearing for two weeks after a Pantera show in Texas 🤣 apparently it was the bass players birthday or something so they went the extra mile with the speakers
As a kid, Dime won so many guitar contests that he got banned from entering them--to give other people a chance.
^^FACT^^ \m/ \m/
He was banned from entering, but they made him a judge for them. He HAD to be part of the local music scene still 🤘🏼
You're reactions and break downs are the best on TH-cam. I can't stop watching you watch Pantera 🤣🤷❤️
Listen to "The charismatic voice" ...and watch as well.
OOOOOHHH YES!!! Pantera was one of my very first concerts. They tore my face off with intensity! So glad you enjoy this stuff. One of these days I'll make it across the pond, and maybe I'll drag you to a show. If you ask nicely, of course ;) hehe.
I'm a simple man. I see Pantera and I see Rebecca and I click as fast as possible.
I love her, i love how she reacts to the music that i love, she is so funny and when she smile i can't avoid loving her...
Long live Rebecca for this reaction.
R.I.P. Dimebag. Makes me weep every time I hear a solo. I remember the day I heard the news. I walked in, and the TV's were on in the store and the news popped off with the news... I just stood there watching the TV and my bosses and co-workers thought I was crazy...
I know this an old vid - I just discovered this channel. That album/band is one of my all time favorites and watching you have such an honest pleasurable reaction to that song (Phil’s voice + dimebags playing) was amazing. I literally laughed out loud at your astonishment. Thank you.
2:32 Lord have mercy. The bass and growl in that voice gave me the shivers 😳🔥
That's the exact same reaction everyone has when hearing Pantera for the first time ;) There's nothing else like it and never will be :(
:'-(
This is the reason why i love pantera for almost 25 yrs and keep listening them until now...
Dime is a guitar god . He plays more than a singer can produce.
Amazing how people who have never heard this music, especially Pantera, can morph. The primordial instincts in the pit of their soul erupts in a gnash of teeth, head banging & the sudden urge to split skulls. Welcome to our world. Embrace the horror. 🤘🤘🤘
Pantera's technical ability makes Metallica look like the Ramones except cliff and Dave but we know what happened to them
kill em all and ride the lightning are the best.
dave and cliff's records
Indeed, which is why the band I played drums in used to call them Mephallica and had a song about them called Fast No More.
If Metallica is so trash then why are they living in your head rent free?
@@keithmorgan1170 Well that’s a metaphor so in order to answer I need to know what you mean literally.
AAAAHHHH YES! 90's. Headbangers Ball. GOOD TIMES!!!
Dime is a legend. This guy is immortal in our hearts
You are LITRALLY listening to 4 of the most talented human beings.... Ever! Seeing them live on this tour, Cowboys from Hell, yeah, and having the lead singer, Phil, almost head butt me into a blackout because I had a meet and greet pass and told him he burned it F$#&ing down, he grabbed my hand and smash...one of my greatest concert moments ever ..then all 4 of them signed my ticket stub and I went home with a nott on my dome and a smile on my face... Yes, it's all Phil, no voice overs!
"Louder"
Yes! Always play Pantera full blast! 🤘
💝Thank You Coach💝 #Neverstopsinging
\m/ \m/ for You Becca Darling. ❤
YES YES HE IS BEAUTIFUL. Same person that sang Cemetery Gates that you reviewed. I knew him before he was in Pantera and Phil had one of the most amazing voices out there. With all the hard singing his beautiful singing voice is probably pretty shot, but Philip Anselmo is still amazing no matter what.
Also check out the British metal band TesseracT, especially the song “retrospect.” The vocalist on that song, Ashe O’Hara, has such a great melodic voice that contrasts so good with the instrumentation. I think you’ll be blown away if you react to that song
I've been to 4 Pantera concerts. No band loves and involved their fans more than these guys. Especially when they played in Dallas tx.
Yes I would love to watch someone like you working on your own vocal range
R.I.P. DIMEBAG greatest metal guitarist ever. You are missed, but at least we have your music. Will last forever
She ain't ready for "5 mins alone" lmao
I was lucky enough to see Pantera and skid row in Orlando back in 92 the concert was just like the video!! At times there were 50 people on the stage with the band, best concert ever!!
Its great seeing someone who so passionate, looking past what they usually listen too, but can still appreciate the talent in other genres.
I randomly came across your videos and I especially love the metal themed ones.
That’s right....there is GROOVE there my dear.
Pantera: “This Love” will blow your mind!
Don't forget "I'm Broken" and "Five Minutes Alone" and "Primal Concrete Sledge". Yeah!!🤘🏻🤘🏻
" coming for YAAW "
Loved it!
"how does he do that".. lol it's Dimebag Darrel that's how.
