That was the best explanation of amount of ram I have ever heard since computers were invented. I wonder why other people are not so candid? Thanks!

I'm glad you found the video useful! Currently I'm working on scripting my next video discussing CPU vs GPU bottlenecking in simple terms.

One thing I will pile on, here, is Virtual Machines. If you're running other OS images in VMWare or VirtualBox (for software development, for example), the more RAM you have, the better the host and guest OS(s) will run. I rarely buy a machine with less than 64 GB for that reason.

Oh yeah. I literally totally forgot to mention that use case. (If I had remembered, I would mention that 32 GB is ok for basic VMs (like one open at a time if it can run on 8 GB, but 64 GB is ideal, and even in some cases 128 GB can be useful.)

LOL I replied from the wrong account.

I have 8GB RAM on Windows 11 and gaming performance is pretty well.

What games can you even play nowadays without freezing on 8GB? Even my GPU alone has more VRAM than that...

@@RandomTechVideos Roblox goes super smooth and I get about more than 100 FPS.

Is this with DDR5 considered ? i mean DDR5 starts where DDR4 is.

This video discusses primarily RAM amount, not RAM technology. DDR5 RAM is faster, but if you have a program that uses 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, it will still use 8 GB of DDR5. So, if you need 32 GB of RAM, you need 32 GB of RAM. DDR5 will just give you better performance and greater transfer speed from RAM to CPU cache.

actual ram ddr5 velocity is not so different with the last ddr4 memories. so apply the same

Well, writing in 2024. I dont know what happened but while normally my windows 11 used 3.8 gb of ram when in idle, know it is consuming 2.2 gb of ram when in idle ( again, idle not using any software or background app). I guess Microsoft did some enchantment in Windows 11. So i am still in 8 gigs of ram. For know it is working. Although i am gonna upgrade it to 16 gigs of ram, my guess is if it works like that ( with 2.2 gigs of ram in idle ) 8 gigs of ram is pretty much enough for normal usage. ( And i am using Windows 11 Pro 64 bit version).

Windows will dynamically scale idle RAM usage. I have 64 GB in my PC and idle RAM usage is often 5-8 GB.
If you only have 8 GB, Windows will leave less stored in RAM at the expense of certain things taking longer to load. But generally speaking, while it seems counterintuitive, the more RAM used out of what is available, the better the performance.
But my mom's laptop somehow is still surviving on 8 GB for now...

Hi I have a question everyttime when I run android emulator like bluestacks or LD Player it will give me lots of problems on my laptop such as hangs, freeze etc... any suggestions what should I do to solve this issue also I plan to buy a new laptop with android emulator use most of the time which model or type should I buy ? Thank you very much in advance. I love your videos it's very helpful.

Emulators require both a lot of RAM and a good CPU for hardware virtualization. I can't recommend a specific laptop but I'd get something with at least 32 GB of RAM and most laptops like that should have a decent CPU.

    16GB is recommended

Yeah 16GB is the go-to amount of RAM for most users.
