Samsung Won't Stop Copying Apple and It's A Problem (S24 Ultra Downgraded?)

    I have no idea about computers, just know the basics and how to use some programs. We always had a desktop but now it is really old, slow, outdated, etc... It does have a bunch of pictures on it. My issue is my daughter says she would rather have a laptop which I'm fine with but what I need to know is storage. If computer is like 10 plus years old will a laptop store all the photos and some videos I have on it. Basically all I need it for is for our pictures and web browsing and some gaming but nothing extreme. Also some word documents to do on ot as well for work, light work. She's more I to outdoor activities than gaming. So I guess my question is do u think a laptop would be sufficient enough storage wise to do what I'm saying?

    • @RandomTechVideos
      @RandomTechVideos หลายเดือนก่อน

      A modern laptop should have enough storage, but it depends on how many files and pictures you need to store. If it'll be used for some gaming, you'll want it to be powerful enough to run games and have enough RAM and storage. I would recommend having someone tech-savvy in your family help pick out a good laptop.

    • @RandomTechVideos
      @RandomTechVideos 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@arjay3733 This is literally not true, sorry. A RTX 4080 is not even the same die as the chip on a RTX 4080 desktop GPU, for example. And there is no laptop CPU as powerful as an i9-14900k for example. Not to mention, thermal management. With destops, you can have extensive liquid cooling systems to run sustained boost frequencies, whereas with laptops, you'll experience thermal throttling at some point.

    • @arjay3733
      @arjay3733 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RandomTechVideos I already know that, but the performance difference is not that far. Also in thermals, gaming laptops nowadays has turbo mode or you can max out the fan plus you can add a cooling fan and it as not far to the cooling capabilities of a desktop.

    • @RandomTechVideos
      @RandomTechVideos 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@arjay3733 I have used PCs and laptops for many years. For a while, I had a PC and laptop with supposedly the same hardware, and when editing videos, the laptop would completely thermal throttle, lag and crash, yet the PC would be just fine and was much faster. The performance difference is not significant on LOW-END office systems. However, for professional workloads and intense gaming, there is still quite a difference between high-end laptop hardware and high-end desktop hardware. Many tech TH-camrs have proven this again and again. I do not feel like spending $10,000 right now to make a video proving my point, but a $5,000 PC will always outperform a $5,000 laptop. Also, even the best laptop cooling systems are far inferior to desktop systems. In a laptop, at best you have a vapor chamber spanning the length of the laptop and a few fans that sound like jet engines taking off. However in a desktop, you can easily have a large tower cooler, or a triple-fan radiator to keep the CPU cool under load. Not even to mention that laptop GPUs often have to share the heatsink with the CPU and get heat soaked... I could go on and on about why high-end PCs are much more powerful, but I'll leave it with one more point: even in the situations where the actual physical hardware is comparable, look at the power draw of a high-end desktop (let's say it's 850w). Now look at the power draw of a laptop with the same supposed components. It would be at most something like 350w. Laptops simply do not have the power to maintain boost clocks on all cores, the way desktops do, and the GPUs are often intentionally power limited to stick to a certain power budget.

    Well, writing in 2024. I dont know what happened but while normally my windows 11 used 3.8 gb of ram when in idle, know it is consuming 2.2 gb of ram when in idle ( again, idle not using any software or background app). I guess Microsoft did some enchantment in Windows 11. So i am still in 8 gigs of ram. For know it is working. Although i am gonna upgrade it to 16 gigs of ram, my guess is if it works like that ( with 2.2 gigs of ram in idle ) 8 gigs of ram is pretty much enough for normal usage. ( And i am using Windows 11 Pro 64 bit version).

      Windows will dynamically scale idle RAM usage. I have 64 GB in my PC and idle RAM usage is often 5-8 GB. If you only have 8 GB, Windows will leave less stored in RAM at the expense of certain things taking longer to load. But generally speaking, while it seems counterintuitive, the more RAM used out of what is available, the better the performance. But my mom's laptop somehow is still surviving on 8 GB for now...

    In all honesty?.....you should have one of each. The laptop?....is a portable version of your desktop, and your desktop?....is a more powerful, and better temperature controlled device. To give emphasis, you can cart a laptop around campus with you, and you can run it hard for a certain time, but eventually?//the innards of the laptop WILL get hotter than they can bear.....but a desktop?...will have a better cooling setup...from giant metal finned fans with exhaust and intake fans all over the place, plus thermal paste / pads and if you're going hardcore?...you can do "liquid cooled" setups which allows you to "go all night" with the desktop. I'm in the process of building 2 desktops...one for me....one for my son....and I ALSO have some laptops (6 to be exact) and none of the devices I have run Windows...everything's Linux! Hahaha!

      @@eddieoconnor4466 that's basically the conclusion I came to for myself. I need both. However, someone who only ever browses the web, watches TH-cam, or edits documents would be fine with a laptop and docking station. And someone who rarely travels might be ok with just a desktop and a smartphone.

    Desktops are noisy and consumes too much power even at idle.

      Glad it was helpful! I saw that a lot of other videos on this topic were overly technical and so I wanted to make a video more understandable for a general audience.

    So I have allways have this configuration of laptop and desktop and honestly I have come to the realization over the years that probably I only need a laptop as for the past 6 years the desktop has only been for gaming wich is OK for some People but for me feels like a waste of money (not gaming itself but spending a crapton of money on it just to only play), Im just too lazy to duplicate my work enviroment on both pcs so the more I think about it the more sense it makes for me to only have one 3k equipment instead of 2 equipment that combined costs 4k. This is more complicated as I realize that I love to work on Linux.

      A good gaming laptop can be really expensive but might make it easier to not have to sync stuff, because you'd have everything on one device.

      Me too. I have acer predator helios 16 and it covers it all, no need for desktops because as I can tell, this laptop itself is overkill for maximum gaming, plus i am doing work in this laptop too so even it costs more than a desktop, i can tell this is not a waste for money. Also its lifespan can reach 5yrs or longer.
