Gwen Stefani and her brother Eric, a former No Doubt member, wrote the song originally as a love song. The song went through several rewrites and new versions. Gwen modified it into a breakup song about her bandmate and ex-boyfriend Tony Kanal, shortly after he ended their seven-year relationship.
I always thought it was about Gavin Rossdale
@@ShawnKavanaghHer relationship with lead bassist Tony Kanal ended in 1994 after seven years together. A line in the song refers to it (don't bother explaining because it hurts). She met Bush lead singer Gavin Rossdale in 1995 and married him in 2002. When they split in 2015 she took up with country star Blake Shelton. They got married in 2021. It's kind of a rollercoaster lol 😄🩷🌷
Gwen wrote the lyrics about her and the bass player's break up. Which, remarkably, they both stayed in the band together afterward. What the video director decided to do was to make it about how Gwen was being covered more than the rest of the band in the press, and how that started to cause tensions within. Because they were a true band (all members contributing and being together for years), they actually kinda shut that down a lot. Gwen starting her solo career was because she wanted to experiment with more poppy stuff than the rest of the band wanted to, so it was an amicable branch off, with them reuniting off and on, never truly breaking up.
I loooove No Doubt! Their Tragic kingdom album came out when I was In middle school and I listened to it start to finish everyday. Gwen Stefani is amazing. Check out “Spiderwebs” “I’m just a girl” “Sunday Morning” “ Simple kind of life” and Holla Back girl which was produced by Pharrell.
"hush, hush darling...hush, hush darling..."
I about choked on my metamucil when he referred to the 90's as the "old days"! Lol
Before Gwen Stefani went solo in the early to mid 2000’s she was the lead singer of No Doubt in the 90’s to the early 00’s
Its a shame chrys isn’t here to listen to this one too.
You should know gwen steffani this is her band before going solo.great reaction 👍🏻🤘🏻
It's sad to begin with but the " Hush Hush darlin " part at the end really gets me.
They r talking to u from their soul to your soul....we were looking for community back then. We were left alone to raise ourselves...reason this beautiful generation is so compassionate and sensitive. We gave you the love we were lacking.
This is my favorite NO DOUBT song. Most people who know Gwen don’t know that she was rock before she was pop.
Mine is Spiderwebs
No Doubt is amazing live, I got to see them a few times, and they always brought so much energy to their shows.
No doubt deserves more listens nowadays! I remember loving their videos when I'd see them as a kid on tv; it was definitely impactful seeing a female lead to a rock band as young girl. Really cool!
Gwen is an excellent singer, wonderful reaction, thank you.
My niece and my son played this to death when Tragic Kingdom came out. I wasn't a fan until I really got into ska. Now I love it. Ska punk, funk, rap metal are now my fav.
Other track I'd suggest is just a girl, spiderweb, it's my life, or Hella good.
Oh this takes me back! I’m so glad that Gwen has come so far.
Try Spiderwebs, Just a girl (My personal favorite), Hollaback girl (She did that with Pharrell. They’ve done A LOT together). This was a diss song after Courtney Love (🙄) made a comment referring to her being a cheerleader. “Let me blow ya mind feat. Eve”, “Cool”, “Ex girlfriend”, “It’s my life”, and “Hey baby feat Bounty Killer”.
Always look for the unclean version. Also, the first ones are from Gwen as a solo artist and the last ones ?the best in my opinion, except “I’m just a girl”)
Have fun heading down the rabbit hole!!
Love Gwen, and that album. Tragic Kingdom came out when I was in Jr. High. Every song had a meaning. Spiderwebs is a good one to check out. My absolute favorite was The Climb. Her range is out of this world. I had this album on cassette tape, then CD. I now have it on vinyl. Never disappoints.
When this song came out I used to play it a lot.
WOW YOU TURN ME BACK IN CHILDHOOD GREAT INOCENT TIME
No Doubt was a fun band
They were great on King of the Hill
“Underneath it all” is a must listen!!
This No Doubt album was SOOOO inspirational to me growing up
I was in my forties when this song came out and I knew she would be a star. A shooting star that is stii going today 30 years later.
This song is an absolute banger
Definitely miss these oldies but goodies!!!!!.. . Yep, it was definitely about her break up with boyfriend/ band member. But they didn't let it break the band at that time ❣️❣️
Love her and this song
Check out Underneath it all...Gwen in brothers gstrage band. No doubt has many hits,90s. Gwen went solo and still performs...
Yeah this song was written earlier for a different context and put away. When this was pulled out and recorded, Gwen and her boyfriend the bass player at the time were going through a break up and this song but with slight alterations to the lyrics became their story. Like counselling, talking about there feelings, like talking to Doctor Phil, but instead in a song with the musical world there Dr. Phil. It healed their relationship and allowed them to continue kicking arse as the best Ska band since Sublime. Unlike Aqua, Lene she was in a long relationship with her Co vocalist René but hooked up behind his back with the keyboardist Søren and got busted right at the height of their fame... almost overnight they crashed hard, very quickly, cancelations and just like that, it was all over. Oh René punched Søren in the face and knocked him out, got charged which were later dropped
Tragic Kingdom is one of the best albums of the 90s. Do more from that one - Just a Girl, Spiderwebs, The Climb. All great.
Can't really go wrong with any No Doubt song/reaction. Highly recommend digging into their catalog!
Gwen is still amazing! You can see her on The Voice now and again. She’s married to Blake Shelton who she met on the show.
No Doubt almost broke up around the time this album, Tragic Kingdom, came out. Gwen and her BF, Tony (her bandmate) also went through a breakup during this album. This was their third album and the studios were frustrated with them because they wanted to release ten minute songs and it was always a fight to get No Doubt to trim their songs down to four minutes. Also, one of their other bandmates had recently committed suicide and Gwen's brother had decided to leave the band to go to college. There was a ton going on during the release of this entire album, and each song was incredibly special. Luckily, this launched them into mega-stardom and their following albums were fan-reaking-tastic.
Bingo Recklezz!! Gwen and Tony were breaking up lol
You should really check out "Spiderwebs" and "I'm Just a Girl" - great No Doubt songs.
Hella Good by No Doubt
One of The most beautiful women in my eyes to this day!
I got dumped right when this song was out. 😩 That's what sucks about attaching songs to your real life experience. I can't hear it without thinking about that. It's a great song tho. I think "Spiderweb" might have been before this. That's her original face too. She doesn't look anything like Marilyn tho. Neither does Ana de Armas for that matter. Poor Marilyn.
Let's get it reckless. OG Gwen Stefani in no doubt their first single I believe. Keep em coming reckless
Just A Girl was their first , I believe.
Check out Just a Girl and “new” by no doubt!
I wanted to be Gwen when I was 12 back in 95 lol
🔥
Gwen did a pretty good job on The Voice. At least Blake Sheldon seemed to like her.
😂😂😂😂😂
Have you guys reacted to her song Hollaback Girl? That's my favorite.
Where ol' girl been?
Dopeage as always bro!
This song is great🔥👍🏼
Their first break through. 1994 I think it was.
...you should see a lot of Chrys in Gwen!
Loved No Doubt. Ex girlfriend, spiderwebs, Sunday morning
The person she is talking about your right is her ex. He's actually in the band I think he's the bassist but could be mistaken it's been awhile nows she's with Blake sheldon.
Im still crushing on Gwen Stefani lol...Love No Doubt yall check out ex-girlfriend
GWEN STEFANI HOLLAR BACK GIRL
Well if she was letting loose on those guys who hurt her, at least she ended up with Blake Shelton and she seems pretty happy.
Orange County California's finest.....
Try, no doubt spiderwebs
👋🏻♥️
I wonder why Tony Kanal broke up with Gwen? I met him and had a chance to ask him, but that’s to personal to ask.
It's a band, not a his.
💪🇩🇿
dude knew, lame vid
