"Rhapsody" is an ancient word that means "Songs stitched together". A rhapsody in music is a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colour, and tonality. An air of spontaneous inspiration and a sense of improvisation make it freer in form than a set of variations.

In the original studio recordings, Freddie sang all the parts of all the harmonies, then the tracks were mixed together. He had to match the timing, pace, and harmonies of all the other parts he sang as he went. They had dozens of tracks to mix on only an 8 channel mixer. They often wore tapes out in the playbacks and mixing process, having to transfer what they had so far to another tape so they could continue. An absolute masterpiece of a performance as well as artistic crafting.

    • @treetopjones737
      @treetopjones737 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Brian, Roger, & Freddie ( Deacon wasn't a singer, though simple back-up is possible ) sang parts, and then it was overdubbed MANY times ( they put a little scene of this in the dramatized movie ). The original first track of the vocals by itself does not sound that great.
In concert, they just ran the tape for that part of the song, as they would've had to hire a full choir and taught them all the parts, just not feasible to do on tour. Then they came out and performed the rest.

'Bohemian rhapsody' was written by late singer Freddie Mercury w/ his love for opera... The single came out in 1975 and hit #1 on the charts around the world and became one of the biggest hits of Queen's career. After Freddie Mercury died in 1991, the movie "Wayne's World" featured the song and it went into the top 10 singles chart in 1992 again!
Recording 'Bohemian rhapsody' was a challenge - there were so much musicality... there were reportedly 180 overdubs on this 1 track, cos the other band members were getting frustrated in the studio. And it was worth it... it pushed the Queen albums into the charts and gave them international acclaim.

You mentioned the harmony in the opening segment; that was Freddie Mercury, harmonizing with himself. Plus, he's the one who wrote it. He'd been working on three different songs and had the genius inspiration to combine them into this rock opera masterpiece. They have a LOT of songs you'll like and many you'll recognize, but to see them at their best you must watch Queen at Live Aid 1985. You'll see how a real legend can manage a crowd of thousands.

Imagine how we felt in 1975 when this was released, a lot of the radio stations refused to play it because it was too long, but a DJ called Kenny Everett who was a friend of the band played it 14 times over the weekend, it went to the top of the charts for 9 weeks and the rest is history. After Freddie's death in 1991 it topped the charts again for a further 5 weeks, over here in the UK we say that it is in our DNA, we are birthed knowing the words to Bho Rap.

    Fun facts Googled:
Bohemian Rhapsody is a six-minute composition, consisting of 6 distinct sections without a chorus: an intro, a ballad segment, a guitar solo an operatic passage, a hard rock part, and a reflective outro coda.
The song is one of Freddie Mercury's great mysteries - according to everyone in the band, only he knew truly how it would come together. Only the band knows what Freddie really wrote it about.
In 2002, this came in #1 in the Guinness World Records as Britain's favorite single of all time. John Lennon's "Imagine" was #2, followed by The Beatles' "Hey Jude."
Bo-Rap was voted Song of the Millennium in 2000.

Queen is a British rock group formed in 1971 consisting of:
Freddie Mercury - Lead vocalist and piano
Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocalist
    John Deacon - Bass guitar
Brian May - Lead guitar and vocalist
They were one of the most successful and influential groups of the 20th century. All four of the members of Queen were not only extremely talented musicians but they all were composers of their music. They are the only group in which each member composed a least one song that became a hit single. Bohemian Rhapsody (BoRap) was created by Freddie Mercury.
They produced 15 studio albums and performed concerts all over the world to crowds as large as 250,000. Their 20-minute performance at the worldwide broadcasted Live Aid Concert in 1986 (whose purpose was to raise money to fight the famine and feed the starving in Ethiopia) is considered the best live performance of a musical group ever (and yes, there is a youtube video of it).
You have heard a lot of Queen music (because it is everywhere) but were unaware that it was Queen. Have you heard: "We Will Rock You" (written by Brian May), "Another One Bites The Dust" (written by John Deacon), or "We Are The Champions" (written by Freddie Mercury)? They are all Queen hit songs.

Great one guys. This is easily one of the three greatest songs in pop history, it's pretty much known by everyone in the free world and since it's release in 1975 has been a staple on FM radio, I can't believe you two have never heard this one. Queen is one of those legendary bands. I remember around 74 when I was sixteen and I heard the name Queen I thought what kinda crap is this, Queen? Little did I know that these guys could rock and went on too maybe be the greatest live band in history too see in concert. I got to see them in Pittsburgh on August 24, 1980 at the Civic Arena. I still have my ticket stub and will always remember that date because my son was born on August August 24, 1994 the same date. The Civic Arena was a legendary building. It opened in 61 or 62 I think and was the first domed arena in the world with a retractable roof. It was the home of the Pittsburgh Penguins and I don't know how many times I saw Mario Lemieux and Jagr (one of the greatest duos in NHL history) play together and then Sidney Crosby and Evgani Malkin play together and are still together and have won 3 Stanley Cups together and then two more from the first two so we have five. Between the Steelers and Pens we are very fortunate here. They tore the Civic Arena down about 9 yrs ago and replaced it which is a shame. I couldn't even begin too list the number of legendary rock stars who performed there. I can tell you that I was fortunate enough too see The Beatles there in September, 1964 when I was 6 yrs old. My birthday was a few weeks before this and I drove my parents crazy that I wanted too see them as my birthday present. I had a regular birthday and then several weeks later my parents gave me an envelope with another birthday card and inside were 4 tickets to the concert my parents and my older sister and I. You had too experience Beatlemania firsthand too realize the craziness of the fans. There were like 12,000 fans which were mostly teenage girls and you could hardly hear anything with all of the screams. I was getting pissed off, I was there too hear The Beatles not thousands of crazy girls. This experience is one of my the fondest memories of my life now. They only toured the US 3 times, 64-66 and only came to Pittsburgh that one time so I feel really lucky too have had that experience. What's funny here is that you have on a Giants shirt and the last live concert in front of an audience they ever performed anywhere in the world was at San Francisco's Candlestick Park on August 29, 1966.They said goodbye too the insanity of touring after this show and went into the studio and became a studio band after that. I would love too see you two check out the video The Beatles performing "Hey Jude" on the Dick Cavett Show 1968 and the sound and color are great, it's one of those iconic moments in music history. The last three and a half minutes of the song will blow you away. I've seen this reacted to a lot but if it gets blocked check it out on your own time, it's well worth the watch. A very Merry Christmas too the both of you and your little one. Take care and stay safe. 🎄🦌☮️✌️💕

The silence after the song was over is exactly what I was looking for. You used the word "experience" when describing this song. That means Freddie's mission was complete.
The show much go on is a great song by queen. Especially if you know the story behind it.. ill let you look into it to see if you want to react to it.
    Great video you guys!

Queen changed rock forever in the 70's, combining their great rock with opera, we truly loved it.

Went to a Harry Styles concert recently at a stadium in Amsterdam, this song was playing before the show started, and the young crowd, about 50 thousand, was singing along, knowing every word!

"We are the Champions" by Queen, was played at every allstar little league football game and baseball game when my son and daughter were growing up.

Same but they ALWAYS played “we will rock you” at my schools/little league home games before that because it was just, the natural lead up to that song lol. Made for an awkward post game if they lost lost 🤣🤣🤣

I enjoy watching a younger generation discover songs and bands from my era. Good music is timeless and should be shared with each generation of music lovers.

Your reaction is a lot like ours when this came out in 75. We had never heard anything like it in rock and roll! It's great to see another generation enjoy it.

Love seeing you react to this, I went on a deep dive a few years ago and listened to all their albums, so many different sounds and eras and all good, keep going you won't regret it

Blows my mind that people can do reaction vids to this song as if they've never come across it before. In the UK (and many other places) it just part of the national psyche. Search here in TH-cam for the crowd spontaneously singing in while waiting at the Green Day cocnert in 2017.

Freddy Mercury's voice has been consistently rated in the top 10 of all time. Little did one know a kid born in India would go soooo far.
