I remember the first time I saw this as a kid, I thought the shooter was Chris Tucker.

He was Lloyd Avery II, and he was a gang member in real life. In this movie he killed Ricky, then a few years later, he shot and killed two random people.

the most heartbreaking scene in this movie, no matter how many times you watch it
2:01 -- The laughter of the children is actually quite unnerving, as the children of the "hood" have become so used to shootings, they see it as another day of the week when someone dies.
It may also serve as Ricky's laughter to show us how he was born and loved, and had a chance at life, but due to one seemingly oblivious action, he was killed, and didn't even have a quick death, he was shot in the leg and THEN the chest!
