      Medical school can be very trying at times, and if you feel that you're suffering from symptoms of depression please seek out assistance from your school. There should be an ombudsperson or someone in administration to help you!
      To put a positive spin on the rigors of medical school, I found the stress as a positive force that helped mold me into an overall better person!

    I now just finished my first term of my first year in medschool. I enjoy the material but still have not developed a good study strategy.
    I hoped in UNI that we would be one big happy family that would support each other but, thus far, I received 2 racist personal attacks against me from my peers (one basically telling me they want me dead in front of the whole year). You mentioned to place oneself around positive people but seeing how small my UNI is, I find it difficult to do this. I hope I will manage to pass my next five years.

    "Brute forcing your way by trying harder won't cut it, and won't be sustainable." I needed to hear that. Currently three months into clerkship, absolutely exhausted from trying to force myself to keep going but having nothing to show for it. I start my EM core on Monday and I just finished sending back my *own* holter monitor to the hospital (yep, same one I'm gonna be working at) because I've been giving myself palpitations from the stress of trying. I'm making / had made myself sick from giving 110% every single day and it still not being enough.
    Nobody tells you any of this stuff. They just assume you have a family member or a loved one who's already a doctor to guide you along. If effort was all it took, I'd be at the top of my class. But here I am. Hopefully I can turn things around next month...

    This certainly reflects the application of techniques that clearly worked for you. Very admirable! I do agree that med. school is a truly great experience. It can be tedious, of course, but overall it's really fun...an adventure of sorts. Memories are formed that you might be lucky enough to share with your classmates for many years after graduation. Our school has been training physicians for almost 200 yrs. and the faculty like to think that they know how to do it. We were examined and graded almost every week of the first 2 yrs. and continually observed and commented upon for the last 2. Written exams then were a little less frequent. There was no additional prep. for the national exams and yet our class was the second highest-scoring in the Country, a decline from the prior class! One of my lab partners had the highest individual scores. Anyhow, like so many other things in life, med. school is what you make of it. Dig in, give it your all and absorb as much as you possibly can but balance the work with some diversions. The world hasn't stopped being interesting just because you're working hard and be CHEERFUL, it's self-perpetuating and contagious. Remember though that MS is just the beginning of your career. Residency, fellowship and practice all present their own challenges....challenges that med. school has prepared you to meet.

      Even in the most dire of situations, you can still achieve the improbable. The first thing you need to do is identify what you’re doing wrong. Are you procrastinating all your homework, getting bad sleep on purpose, not studying for tests? Don’t complain about failing if you are knowingly not putting in the work. There are always community colleges that have a 100% acceptance rate that you can go to. From there, you can go to a more advanced actual university and get a bachelors degree. Once in a four year college you can apply for medical school and if you’re driven and motivated enough, you can get in. It all depends on the amount of work you’re willing to put into it, and how organized you can be. You need to want it enough to be willing to change your lifestyle and habits. Don’t lose hope and never give up. Good luck!

And in the most difficult times a beer is needed to restore mental and physical strength

    • @levibeam100
      @levibeam100 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You just have to be disciplined enough to not go out with your friends whenever you need to study. If I didn’t hang out with friends in Med school I wouldn’t have survived. Med school to me was way more mind demanding than physically demanding, and with that came depression sometimes. If I didn’t hang with friends sometimes my mental state would’ve just kept declining and declining. I think you just had a bad experience with you’re friends, and I’m sorry, but they weren’t you’re “friends” to begin with then. A study partner is actually a great way to study as long as they are on the same level as you intelligence wise and are very hard working

    I know probably the best tip there is, if you think about how you hate something like “god I hate this project” you will just end up so miserable and doing a bad job, you don’t have to love it but just don’t talk about how you hate that particular thing and freshen up and drink some water and study. Also studying in an uncomfortable space, where there’s noice, distractions, where it’s too hot or too cold or where there’s funnier things to do will make you feel miserable and make you do worse then if you study in an area with no distractions, not too hot and not too warm temperature or where there’s something that can seem funnier to do, study in a room with windows so that daylight can flood in, it will make you feel fresher, and drink some water, water really can help, also make sure you are wearing comfortable clothes, you should really try to see what makes you feel comfortable, yet not so comfortable that you focus on how comfortable everything is, as soon as you feel uncomfortable you should drink some water or eat something, open a window or make sure the temperature is feeling good. That was just tips for studying, if you’re in class you should always take notes, only the important stuff, do *not* write down all things the teacher says, for example do not write “for this class we are learning how the brain reacts to different blah blah blah” but you should write down for example the different reactions of the brain, and to not get completely lost when you’re only writing down the different reactions and you should write a “title” saying for example “the brains reactions to different blah blah blah”
    I really hope this helped someone because it’s late and I’m supposed to sleep now and I’m ill and I don’t know why I wrote this long text it just ended up this way

    I am in final year of medical and completely burnt out . I have finals in few weeks and I can’t bring myself to study and keep procrastinating. Its horrible. Years and years I have stretched myself thin for this and when I am finally at the threshold I cannot move along because of burn out. Im so scared that all my hard-work of these years is going to vain because of the very bad months I have had. I just don’t know what to do. No. I know what to do l just cant do it.

      @@tarina84663 I definitely get that. Sometimes it helps to put yourself in a counselors shoes. If someone was having some trouble and doubts during, say, their MCATs and you had the tools to help, would you want them to come to you? I'm most positively sure that you would. The folks there to help at your school are passionate about that. I can promise you won't regret it. :)

    Are there any undergrad classes which aren't already required for the MCAT, that will make Med School look easier or look good to Med Schools?

  • @Fandomonium456
    @Fandomonium456 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Lmao...I miss college so much. Unfortunately being at the top of your med school class is even more stressful than doing well than in undergrad. This is a way different beast, and while I do well academically, the hardest part is the stress/mental part about it. It’s gotten better for me over the past year, and I definitely need to chill a lot more and not let school run my life as much and stress about my class rank lol

    Hey im just a 12 year old European girl who aspires to do my studies in the US. I really want this goal to be achieved but i know that it is really hard for a foreigner to study medicine in America. Well, it is actually everywhere but i especially like the US and lets say that the cost is really high which thats the thing that tears me down because it is hard for international students to get scolarships. And yes, i know im too young to think about college/university now but i just cant help myself from doing the otherwise. I started doing my research, taking notes for all the information i could i find online for foreign students in the US but still don’t tell me if theres a chance (i dont know how to explain it lol). As you can see im very stubborn. What im trying to say is that, is there hope for me? Can i do it? Will i eventually find myself in a college then in a med school and then finally apply for residency? Please i want to know if there will be a chance. Im waiting for your reply :)
