- Hi my name is Lilly and I am an American expat living on the island of Koh Samui in the gulf of Thailand for the last 9 years. My husband is Thai and his name is Wat. We have two boys named Luke and Leon and are expecting our third child in a few weeks. Nam is our Nanny and she is like family to us. She is from Myanmar and has worked for us for over 6 years.
Wat and I have owned several businesses together on Maenam walking street in Koh Samui. Right now our restaurant Lilikoi Bistro is closed but we will let you know when we reopen.

It is so nice that you support your friends family at this time. Thais are so like my people, we care about the family of the departed and keep with them and support them, we don't go through the burning of the pyre, but we help with dressing our loved one, dig the grave, spend days sleeping on the floor near to the coffin along with the family, We eat alot, talk, then cry, joke, laugh & sing then bury our loved one, then we go home. Each funeral you go to I find becomes easier to bare. Manaaki Atua 💞 💖 💞

How interesting to get a glimpse of Thai culture at such a sad time. Your vlog was certainly not disrespectful - quite the opposite. Losing a dear friend is always a time of great sadness, but I like the way that the Thai people deal with death - a celebration of the life before the final, prayerful 'farewell'.

This custom reminds me of the Samoan cultural when someone passes except they usually have a burial. My oldest daughter 's husband is Samoan. May your memories bring you comfort. God bless you all.

So very sorry to hear this bad news, Life is so short, my mum also had a heart attack 2 weeks ago, luckily the Doctors saved her in time, she had 2 bypass done and now recovering at hospital. So live your life to the full. God bless you all.

Sad. I was on dialysis for 9 years and got a transplant last year. Every day was a crapshoot and I never knew if I was coming home to my daughter after dialysis or not. It was nice see you all celebrating his life. Very sad.

So sad to lose such a close friend. Sending my condolences to Wat and you and his loved ones….. My son lives in Thailand province of Ampur Thap Pud in Phang- Nga in the South .. near Krabi with his Thai wife and their 7 year old son, he has lived in Thailand for many years they have been married for over 22 years. He loves the country and the people and the pace of life there. While I was there a family member passed away and the funeral was so long 7 days..In the heat I was exhausted.. The ceremony was beautiful but, very different than what I was used to..I give you a lot of credit being so supportive of Wat with two children and ready to give birth to your third child… Even with Nam’s help it’s a lot for you to deal with you are a strong woman both physically and spiritually. Again I am so sorry for your loss. May God Bless you and give you all the strength to get through this you’re all in my thoughts and prayers.

That's very a great idea that you filmed it because you're actually keeping his lovely memories alive. Thai culture is very similar to Cambodian and the Cremation are very common for most Thai, Lao , and Cambodian. The video had me tears bc I've lost so many people in my life within a span of 5 years.
Awe...condolences to Wat and the rest of their home town friends. Thank you for bringing the experience of a traditional Thai funeral to light. During my stay in the Philippines and Bali, I experienced funerals and all the rituals-traditions in honor of the deceased. It is important to know that there isn't only one Western approach to those that pass away as well as how other cultures view death both in the spiritual context and among family-community. 🙏🙇🏻♀️

I share my condolences with you and family and friends. I just recently lost my uncle and he was on kidney dialysis. I believe he knew he was living his last days and I was told he teared up before he boarded his medivac to a larger hospital. We couldn’t be with him even if we wanted to because of Covid restrictions, but I know in my heart that he is now in heaven. Praise the Lord. I love you all and thank you for sharing this heart felt moment❤️

So sorry to hear about the passing of your friend Eid. In Thai culture they believe in reincarnation and though Eid had a shortend life here on earth he had completed this journey and now he will go on to the next completion cycle. The Buddhist belief of impermance perhaps explains more about the Thai culture than anything. It should be a lesson to us all that in this life whether you are Christian or Buddhist you have a mission to complete and every day is a gift to work towards that mission to be a giving, loving and kind person. Nobody knows when their last day will come and when we go we should have the smiling happy soul that Eid had. Blessings to You, Wat and everyone that loved Eid.

Thai people place a lot of emphasis on showing hospitality.
I think it is helpful that the mourning relatives keep their minds busy taking care of others attending the funeral, it helps with the pain.
Shifting the focus from your own pain to helping others helps when you are sad or depressed.
