    I LOVE how they zoomed in on Chuck during his rant, the camera showing how much he forgets his place and focuses on Jimmy, which in turn shows the Bar his obsession on his brother and how he was using the law to outright punish him.
    Really great writing to give Jimmy an understandable 'out' for the tape which was incriminating as hell.

      @@gamecreatorc Yea the thing is like 75% of people just automatically say Fuck Chuck they don't even try and see his side to any of this. First he bailed Jimmy at of jail if it wasn't for that his ass would have been screwed and he would never have been in any sort of position he is in now. And then all of this shit started to really escalate as soon as Jimmy couldn't handle the fact that Chuck and HHM got Mesa Verda fair and square. Doubt the only reason Chuck did that just so he could stick it to Jimmy by taking Kim client away. Plus he was right about how no one person could handle something that big. And the falling out truly didn't happen until Jimmy decided to break the law which in turn fucked over HHM and made Chuck look like a fucking joke. And then people get angry just because Chuck simply decided to fight back and secretly tape Jimmy sure he did it by playing on his emotions but didn't do anything illegal. It was Jimmy dumbass who then decided to best course of action was to forcefully break into his house and smash what he thought was the only tape. And these are the things they hate Chuck for that and the fact that he was right that Jimmy is someone who should never have a law degree as not once has he ever been able to have any morals or ethics even when given the chance like when he was given a great job at a law firm.
      Yea Chuck helped created Jimmy by never supporting him and can't stand to see him gain any level of success as a lawyer. He played basically just as big of a role in all of this happening. It's just people know Jimmy from BB and there for root for him. If it was the reverse and we somehow knew Chuck from seasons of BB and he was the MC and Jimmy was introduced in this series then people would probably hate him.

    Chuck is the Skyler of Better Call Saul. Just like Skyler, Chuck is hated by the community, because he’s framed as the antagonist and the perspective of the show is shown through Jimmys eyes. But at the end of the day, everything Chuck says about Jimmy is true. Jimmy is a con man criminal. Sure Chuck may be turning Jimmy into the thing he wishes to prevent, but that doesn’t cloud the fact that he’s right. What a brilliant job the writers have done with this show. Just like Breaking Bad, the writers trick the audience into siding with the bad guy due to the perspective, until the end, where we will all eventually be punched in the gut, just like we were in Breaking Bad. God I love Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad so much.

    • @ThePunisherSpider

      I think people blame Chuck for Jimmy's shit too much. Jimmy is an adult, he makes his own choices. And let's remember that Jimmy has being pulling scams since episode 1, before he found out about Chuck betraying him. Chuck can be seen as a shit brother and person (I would disagree, Chuck has been there for Jimmy multiple times, he pulled Jimmy out of trouble during his entire life, to the point he was tired of being his lawyer) but what gets me is the fact that their relationship is so toxic, and like you said, the show frames him as the antagonist, but Vince Gilligan said it best "you gotta feel for Chuck, he is right about Jimmy, but because he's not likeable he is seen as the villain". Is not even about doing bad things, because Jimmy has done far worse.

    • @wymg4480
      @wymg4480 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@ThePunisherSpider Their relationship is indeed toxic but only because chuck makes it so. Yes, hes been getting Jimmy out of trouble for years and yet at his greatest times of need, who is by his side? Jimmy. No questions asked, Jimmy would be at his hospital bed, even if it means exposing his whole scheme. Jimmy took care of him and his mental breakdowns while he claims is a physical reaction for more than a year. While having to work his ass off just to live in a basement of some hair salon. The biggest reason, personally, i dislike chuck is the fact that jimmy cared about chuck while chuck allowed his jealousy and inferiority complex towards jimmy cloud his eyes. While he is correct in judging Jimmys character, Jimmy has never once intentionally went out of his way to harm chuck. Even the forging part was just his scheme to help kim get back her clients. It was never about humiliating chuck or HHM. Even though, chuck went out of his way to sabotage his younger brother's career. Chuck had such a big ego that he couldnt even stand Jimmy being a lawyer because his delinquent younger brother finally found a job that was similar to his own. He preferred that Jimmy stayed the same slipping Jimmy because he felt better than Jimmy if that was the case. Theres no doubt he had a part in turning Jimmy into who he was today. No matter how much an adult one becomes, a younger brother is always a kid brother in the eyes of the elder sibling. Their job is to protect them, not to destroy their futures even more. Chuck had never once forgave Jimmy for his actions. Jimmy constantly sought Chucks approval and never got it, no matter how much he worked.

    Jimmy didn't steal from the cash register. Chuck didn't know that his father pretty much gave away the money and handled the business in horrible manner. It was much easier for him to blame Jimmy, whom he already most likely was jealous off for being more social and because he could enjoy life more. At least that's the only reason I could think off they chose to show us that his father was complete run over and it was the neighborhood assholes that stole the money. The fact that their father said to Chuck "Not our Jimmy" simply means that he knew that it wasn't Jimmy, but didn't have the heart to say that it was his fault. The fact that Chuck thought it was Jimmy already shows his hate towards his brother at that point.
    That makes this story much more tragic. Chuck's hate toward his brother affected him since the early childhood and so did their father's weaknesses. Now in a way both of the brothers are phucked up, and while Chuck has had lots of professional success in his life, it seems that he has never been happy. Most likely he as the oldest child took a lot of responsibility and lived in certain type of fear his childhood because of weak father. But for a first born sons it's really hard to see any flaws in their fathers, especially when they are young, so Jimmy got Chuck's blame. And this blame most likely caused Jimmy to become the Slippin' Jimmy in the first place, as it sounds that Chuck had more effect on Jimmy than their father.
    Breaking Bad universe is full of really important life lessons. And most concern how small wrong decisions can have huge consequences down the line. These shows are really worth analyzing a lot. And they really have much deeper layers that can be seen in the first view. No wonder writing these shows takes forever.

      THANK YOU! Someone who fuckin gets it... I hate how many people go around saying Chuck was always right about Jimmy and how hes justified to do and say the thing he does about him.
      Jimmy is a monster of his own creation, the constant judgement and looking down upon him pushed him to be what he became, and it was all out of spite and jealousy, every time Chuck talks about Jimmy the first things he brings up is how well liked and charismatic he is, at the end of the day, thats all it boils down to.. and he latched on to any excuse he could to justify the hatred of his own brother and the constant sabotaging he executed to keep Jimmy down and never on par with him, it was certainly easier than accepting his father was just a pushover and did poor business, so instead he blamed his 9 year old brother on stealing 14k in little bits.

    • @juzujuzu4555
      @juzujuzu4555 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexanderwiles2003 That is a red hearing. Jimmy might have stolen some money, but the main issue was him giving it away. Of course the father would have known if it were Jimmy who took the money, but he said it was not Jimmy.
      Chuck didn't know how loser his dad was and how he lost the money. He blamed Jimmy, and he saw his father protecting Jimmy as more evidence how Jimmy is being loved and how he gets away without consequences.
      The father should have said "I phucked up, it was me", but it seems that he didn't do it, or at least Chuck didn't believe him.
      This show constantly changes how we are supposed to feel for characters, we like Chuck, we hate Chuck, we hate Howard, we like Howard, we blame Jimmy and then we found out he was innocent.
      This show does that so masterfully. Shows how much things depend from the perspective and how we shouldn't judge people.

      @@juzujuzu4555idk, just because you’ve judged the dad as an idiot doesn’t mean u can declare that jimmy taking some money (which he did) is not an issue. To me it’s the opposite. So his dad gave away money. The point is Jimmy saw this and used it to his advantage, against his own family. That is shitty and highly revealing of his character, so chuck absolutely has a right to hold that aginst him. Because that same trait rears it’s head over and over, and the 1216 incident was like a nail in the coffin for chuck. Like the ultimate betrayal, and Jimmy would’ve never taken responsibility for it when confronted like a normal reasonable person. Blaming chuck for how Jimmy turned out is kind of silly because you can say the same thing the other way around. Chuck wouldn’t have been so skeptical of Jimmy had he not been willing to steal from and take advantage of his own dad , amongst many other things

    So much to discuss in this episode. First off - Thank You for pointing out the phenomenal acting of Michael McKean (Chuck). It is an absolute crime he was not nominated for a performance of this level.
    Masterpiece cinema often takes inspiration from Masterpieces before them. BCS is no exception. The BCS story is uniquely its own and stands on its own merit while still paying homage to great shows of the past.
    “Chicanery” is a prime example of a great court room drama. It draws its inspiration from a 1954 Humphrey Bogart Film “The Caine Mutiny”. Nominated for several Oscars, second highest grossing film of 1954. It deals with events on board a fictitious Navy ship in WW2 and a subsequent court martial court room hearing afterward.
    If you are into court room dramas - I HIGHLY recommend you watch “The Caine Mutiny”. Compare it to BCS “Chicanery” and you can clearly see where the inspiration lies.
    Another courtroom drama with exceptional acting would be “A Few Good Men” with Jack Nicholson’s stellar courtroom performance.

The fact that Jimmy is the main character and more likeable shouldn't be an excuse to excuse his behaviour. Also, Chuck has been there for Jimmy for a very long time. They say "yeah Jimmy brought you food when you needed it!" but Chuck was Jimmy's lawyer a bunch of times (so many that he was tired and didn't want to defend him anymore after the sunroof stuff). I don't know why they act lke Chuck has always being a shit brother and the incarnation of evil.

While Chuck is right about Jimmy's actions at that point and his illness is horrible, none of those excuse such hatred he willingly build up over the years.

    • @ThePunisherSpider
      @ThePunisherSpider 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@starbog1 We know from the flashback that it wasn't the first time Jimmy was detained (also, he was a hustler for his entire life, so it makes sense that he had problem with the law before) and that Chuck was sick to get him out of trouble. We know their mom would ask Chuck to get Jimmy out of legal trouble. We know that Chuck is so tired of that that he says to Jimmy this is the last time, unless he turns his life around, and offers him a job in HHM. How is any of that "just being there in emergencies"? We know from Marco that they are used to Chuck flying to Cicero to get Jimmy out of trouble, and that Marco believes that (like other times) Jimmy will say he is going to change but they'll go back to business as always. Is Chuck a dick? For sure. But acting like Jimmy is the only brother that is there for the other is ignoring evidence, Chuck got Jimmy out of legal trouble who knows how many times, and at the end gave him a job. That has to count for something. Chuck is a dick brother, yes, but the beauty of the show is how complicated their relationship really is and how much they are willing to help each other but also destroy each other (Jimmy was willing to use his brother's mental illness to get out of a problem he really was gulty of) and how much they have a love/hate relationship.

      Both are in the wrong. Chuck sabotaging him during his time as a lawyer is what forced him to "slip" back into his old ways. Chuck said that he wants what's best for Jimmy, but even after Jimmy changed his ways and was on a good path with becoming a lawyer, chucks ego couldn't handle it. No matter what Chuck said to Jimmy, he always viewed him as lesser. So even when Jimmy was FINALLY on the right path like Chuck always wanted, he stabbed him in the back. Which then caused an endless cycle of both of them bringing out the worst of each other.
      So many ppl are fuming in the comments over them cheering for Jimmy, but that's only natural when you've watched him struggle with Chuck for 3 seasons. In the end, neither of them are in the right, but technically, Chuck's ego started Jimmy's fall from grace and by extension, his own. Greek tragedy type stuff.

    I have to say, despite this being a fictional show, seeing a bunch of people in a reaction video laughing at somebody who suffers from mental illness and cheering when that person is humiliated in front of his ex-wife is disturbing.
    This is coming from somebody whose best friend killed himself because he was unable to deal with the fact that he was mentally ill. People like my friend suffer the most because they feel great shame and because they keep denying that they need help.
    In the show, up to this point, Jimmy has done many bad things. Chuck is unlikable, but he has done one bad thing.
    When I watched this show with friends, we were never rooting for Chuck, but in this episode, we all understood his confusion and his pain. We understood how humiliated he must have felt.
    I guess we have this thing called empathy.
