Better call Saul can be classified in two groups: BC and AC. Before chicanery and after chicanery. For real though, this episode was another turning point for me in the series. I was so excited after all these seasons to finally get more Nacho. Was and still am a big Michael Mando fan, and this is the episode where his character really goes from the background to the foreground.
The way Fring's operation was brought down so quick makes me think of a saying: An idiot with a hammer can destroy in minutes what a genius took years to create.
Hector's biggest mistake was trying to keep the business in the family above all else. Tuco is family but he's crazy and unpredictable. Gus would never make that mistake and that's why he was always more successful and Hector always resented him for that. re: Rebecca --- I totally agree. Jimmy owes Chuck nothing and I was so pissed that Rebecca expected Jimmy to do anything differently than what he did there: nothing.
well, she never really know nor will she ever experience the brotherly feud between jimmy and chuck. she may know the basics of it but not the full story and the complexities of it. i mean, she already broke up with chuck so while i disagree with her, i can understand why she would act like this

It is a loop of actions that feeds itself and both Jimmy and Chuck are a part of it, one cutting corners of the legal system and the other one behaving like a vindictive asshole to those who take care of him. And all that because Chuck views himself inferior to Jimmy at everything but the law. Chuck is insecure to such a degree it causes him actual pain and it turned him vindictive against his own family. In my opinion, it is not hard to see why people see that as a worse transgression than trying to swindle a rigid system of laws and rules. It's not like we are at the point of Breaking Bad where Saul is proposing assassinations and shit, Jimmy is just a con artist taking advantage of assholes at this point. Who cares.
I personally don't think Chucks mental illness counts as an excuse. He has delusions about being allergic to electricity, but apart from that, he is able to have rational and cohesive thoughts. His opinion about his brother isn't caused by his delusions. I believe that Chuck is accounteable for his actions As far as the conflict itself goes; both are in the wrong. Preventing Jimmy from becoming a lawyer could be justified since Chucks concerns turned out to become true as we've seen in Breaking Bad as well as Better Call Saul so far. However, lying to Jimmy and using Howard as a scapegoat is not moral. By tricking Saul into confessing by making him feel guilty about the fake mental Breakdown, Chuck sunk to Jimmy's level, as far as morality goes. Saul did alter Chucks document and caused huge financial and reputational damage, as well as breaking and entering. Plus all the other instances of lieng and manipulation. They both have reasons to hate each other, and noone of the two would have to orgive the other. The relationship between the two is broken beyond repair and both are at fault, in my opinion.

Skyler is fun to consider because BCS 'splits' her narrative buzzkill role into two characters, Chuck and Kim. Chuck absorbs absolutely biblical amounts of heat from the audience for his overt antagonism and trying to get Jimmy out of this life, while Kim is more like an example of a better person, better lawyer, the angel on the shoulder, but slowly gets drawn in to more compromised positions, and the audience largely loves her for it. Together they generate the same kind of uncomfortable tension between the wild west fantasy of a man breaking bad (Walt, Jimmy) and the real world where such behavior is no longer considered even remotely acceptable (Chuck, Skyler). So I can at least understand why people would be averse to the tension and anxiety they felt basically every time Skyler was on screen. She existed to impede or try to stop all the criminal antics that we come to this franchise for. Plus absolutely immense amounts of flat-up sexism. Like, that shouldn't go without being acknowledged. Imagine if Chuck was a woman, that's Skyler. Art is in the eye of the beholder, and people who come away absolutely harassing Anna Gunn, come on.

In my opinion the two shows compliment each other to such an extent that they tell one cohesive narrative. I prefer to see Better call Saul as Part 1 of the Gilliganverse and BB the second part. Part one is glorious, masterful setup for the crescendo that is part 2, Better Call Saul is not breaking bad and its not trying to be it just works in tandem with it. We see the slow purposeful rise of Gus in the knowledge that it will all be brought down by a high school chemistry teacher, it takes its time to develop its characters. I think the creators deliberately tried to tell a different story than in Breaking Bad and instead enhance their masterpiece with this masterpiece as well. I just love both shows and they don’t feel distinct to me. I’m looking forward to watching BCS followed by BB and El Camino in one go when the series wraps its going to be so good

Figures Pat wouldn't know that those funny things on all of the walls of Chuck's study aren't just some odd wallpaper, they are all these individual things called 'books', which you can pick up even just one and get literally hours and hours of entertainment - and never need charging! Believe it or not, Pat, but in fact these 'books' are the primary device with which most people (even to this day) study law, which someone who is a founder of a law firm just might actually have a great interest in!

The only problem with BCS is that the characters look so old
Don eladio in season5 finaly was so much older than breaking bad
But its not that much different, plus people can gain or lose weight and change. It did no bother me but Season 6 will be very hard to make
They can only do so much with make up. But yeah, these characters all appear a good decade older than they “should” chronologically. Although the most egregious example of this will always be Meth Damon weight gain in El Camino. At least with Huell in BCS you can rationalize that he got bigger in the time gap. But the El Camino flashbacks takes place during the events Breaking Bad so it doesn’t make any sense

@@FudGnut Yeah, but its not hard to imagine maybe he just gained weight during that time and lost it later. I thought seeing Jesse being treated like a slave as he helps stash a corpse gave us a deep look into Jesse's mind, especially when he almost pulled a gun on him.

@@weewer3369 I have a mixed view on this. Playing Devil's advocate here. Kim knew about Jimmy's commercial but did not give HHM a heads up on it. It made HHM look bad. Howard has always been clear on HHM's reputation being vital. Howard was placed in a difficult situation. He wanted to make certain Kim's loyalty for Jimmy will never supersede her loyalty to the firm again.
