Thank you for reacting to this series. It's been enjoyable listening to your discussion and seeing you develop theories. So many reactors, if they even have theories or discussions, make very surface-level comments that demonstrate that they have not really taken the time to think about the material at hand. I imagine it must be a boon to be able to bounce ideas off each other after watching the episode and I appreciate that all your members take notes and are actively paying attention during the show. I didn't see it mentioned in the previous reaction or the comment section but the name of the show "Tanya the Evil" was a purposeful changing of the title of the show. The original title, "Youjo Senki" which translates to "The Military Chronicles of a Little Girl", is a much better title as it doesn't poison the well with its protagonist. I've wondered how people's reaction to Tanya would be during the first episode and beyond if they weren't already primed to believe that Tanya is evil. Your discussion regarding pre-reincarnation Tanya (the Salaryman) and his actions during work was a very welcome departure from other reactors that I've watched. So many others didn't consider that the Salaryman was doing his job and that the man he fired was given multiple chances to rectify his work. I appreciated the discussion regarding Being X and that you went back to the scene to review it. Your group has been one of the first that has taken the time to really take a look at Being X and discuss that Being X deals with reincarnation. So many others assume the Christian God immediately and don't take the time to think that there are other possibilities. One major issue that comes from any adaptation, especially from a Light Novel, is that a full adaptation can not really be done. Cuts and changes to scenes can produce very dangerous misunderstandings. The light novel is full of Tanya's inner monologues and acts of magic that are clearly stated in the novel but are much more subtle in the anime. One glaring example is during Tanya's first fight during Norden's invasion of the Empire in this episode. The scene in the anime where she grabs her wrist, holds it, and then begins to laugh makes her appear to be some kind of madman or maniac. This same scene in the Light Novel is very different: "Without a thought about what's going to come after, I start doping up with one interference formula after the next. Improved reaction time, increased instantaneous strength. Before my brain registers the shooting pain of forcing open the magic circuits, I alleviate it with intracerebral narcotics. Ahhh, I'm getting pumped. My body's running hot in excitement. I wonder if this is how it feels to get high. Now if the worse case happens and the enemy shoots me down, I'll be able to escape without collapsing from the pain." LN Vol1. pg 49. This isn't the first or only scene in which the production company took some liberties with Tanya and other characters. This is made more challenging as Youjo Senki has also been adapted as a manga that itself takes some liberties with the entire cast. This has led some in the Youjo Senki community to produce the theory that each adaptation of the story is a form of propaganda. The Light Novel being an unreliable narration of Tanya herself, the anime being Entente Alliance propaganda, and the manga being Empire propaganda. Thanks again for the reaction and the discussion. I hope you'll continue with this series and continue to the movie.
thank you! yes being able to talk our thoughts through with each other makes us all understand better. The title definitely threw us off. Niquey was even saying afterwards that she expected far worse so far because of the title. I tell them about the title before we watch episode 4. Being x is extremely interesting to me. I want to learn more about him to see where he is coming from. yeah its odd how much got cut. i read that many many inner monolgue scenes were dropped and the drug usage dropped entirely. It really was important though because it completely changes all those wide eye crazy moments. I would have liked to see her thought process. I like the idea of an unreliable narrator but if this was the case i would have liked for it to be made more clear that this was the situation. I did see some art online about how some characters looked. viktoria for instance looks like a completely different person. I wonder why they would change that. thank you for watching and all the information! We will probably react to the movie if we can find it but i cant promise that quite yet.
You know, I kinda agree with Tanya's views on Being X. I mean what kind of being essentially puts a gun on your head and tells you to have faith on him. Not only is that antithesis to humanity's views on god as all loving, all good, all powerful, and all knowing being, it also just seem too human, i.e. imperfect, of Being X. The fact that he had to ask and test Tanya by reincarnating him to another world already tells you that he is not all knowing. The fact that he admitted to not being able to deal with humanity any longer, tells you he is not all powerful. The fact that he essentially placed Tanya on a rough spot just for his selfish wish of being praised and having people have faith on him, tells you he is not all good. And finally, the fact that as Tanya pointed out, he is being subjected to such cruelty (being killed, being born an orphan in another world, being placed in a war torn world) despite following the rules of the world and probably living his life as a normal upstanding citizen and not the douche who killed him is because he doesn't have faith on god is hypocritical on Being X's part, showing how he is not all loving since he clearly has his biases. Seeing it likes this, you would kinda understand in Tanya's view why he refused to acknowledge Being X as God. Being X doesn't act like what you would expect from God other than having supernatural powers. When he says he doesn't believe in God, he means that if God truly existed then he wouldn't allow Being X to be so malicious to him or to even exist at all.
Tanya isn’t “evil” really, she just runs purely on logic, if something is in the way or makes thing harder for her, i.e. insubordination, she removes them as efficiently as possible.
Tanya used to work as in Human Resources you know them as the hiring and firing of people Her job was to see if workers were cut out for the job if not YOU ARE FIRED!!!
I don't think Tanya is a sadist per se. She despises people who don't live up to her expectations. People who are stupid, lazy, won't obey their orders, etc. She also just LOVES putting those people in their place, punishing them for not being good enough. Intellectually, she is rational and really wants to have that safe, comfortable life, but emotionally she just loves defeating rivals, showing them they aren't good enough, that she's better than they are. It's this emotion vs rationality that keeps making her stab herself in the back, keeps making her stand out and being given more responsibility and being put in more danger. Even if she got that safe life, I think she would end up in a job, like she had in Japan, where she can continue punishing the unworthy.
A great reaction video, I love to see you laughing and cringing with the flow of the story. You actually listen to the dialog and identify with the characters. I like the back-and forth discussion about your reasonable theories and interpretations.
The way I saw the whole giving Tanya powers thing was Being X wanted him to be vulnerable, in the most terrible situation possible. Imagine a little girl forced to fight in the first world war. Even more extreme than having a fully grown adult fight. But how do you ensure that they would have reason to draft someone that young? That is where I see the magic coming in.
Fun Fact The Reason why Tanya is so crazy eyed is because she is high on Meth In ww1 and ww2 the Germans used to issue meth as a energy booster and after both wars all of those that survived got addicted
Great discussion. Atheist meets god; "Guess I was wrong, but I still don't like you. All powerful means all responsible, so you have a lot to answer for." Also demanding faith is like demanding love, if you need to force it you probably don't deserve it. I like how both Tanya and being X both have a point, but are to petty to understand eachother.
Always remember, the „Evil“ Tanya has, is just as you could see blatant Rule-abiding, and ice cold rational decisionmaking. All she did as of now was technically correct. You do get executed for insubordination, if you don’t deliver and are absent for no reasons you get fired. It’s just that the „Evil“ imo refers to Her missing humanity in those regards. She feels empathy, she has feelings, she isn’t a pure sadist, but uncompromising and always rational makes her seem a lot more Monster like.
@tsukishiro70 dude, in this case. I would be reincarnated into another world. I'd be convinced he was at least a being at a higher level of existence than myself. Thats speaking with the fore knowledge we have as readers or watchers of anime like this. Also, wouldn't the existence of demon, bad higher entities, also mean the existence of angels, good higher entities. Speaking in a Christian vernacular
Yea this show is really good and its way more deep then just "Tanya is evil lol" ithere was never even evil in the title anime just added it i hav eno idea why. Tanya dost enjoy hurting people its just that she uses drugs to cope with it on the battlefield.
3:34 You can the see the Overlord poster here. That's because the authors of Youjo Senki and Overlord are friends.

I love how petty Being X and Tanya are, it's hilarious.

It wasn't just one God but all of them
Tanya angered all of the God's and Goddesses
If a god needs prayer that badly, he is not a god.
Tanya isn’t “evil” really, she just runs purely on logic, if something is in the way or makes thing harder for her, i.e. insubordination, she removes them as efficiently as possible.

…and so, from here on, this Anime has now started for real, I will look to see more.

I love this anime and I'm LOVING this reaction series! So much discussion and so much attention paid to the small details!
Very well done!
So glad you guys are watching this!!
Tanya is a modern retelling of Odysseus
Tanya pissed off not one God but ALL OF THEM!!!
Love this 👍
The Book Tanya used to read a in our world was
freakonomics a Rogue insiders guide how-to get ahead in the corporate world

Battlefield 1 fans where are you at??? All the guns in this anime are all real
Fun Fact The Reason why Tanya is so crazy eyed is because she is high on Meth

Magic doping, no drugs other than caffeine

12:00 When you stuff a major tomboy into a frilly girly dress, she just dies a little inside... 😅

evil isnt even the part of the orginal name i assume anime put it there just to be extra and to state that what she is doing is bad.
FBI OPEN UP WE ARE HERE TO PROTECT YOU FROM THE LOLI!!!
I'm atheist but if God talked to me and all that Jazz, I'd be pretty convinced in the divine
He's not a god. Barely even a demon. A real god would be far more chill. Like for example Thor or Odin.

She doesn't use drugs, it's a magic doping technique
