Very good restoration. The proof of the pudding is that the bell sounds just like it was supposed to 100 years ago. Enjoyable tutorial. Bell looks great . I bet the patina boys are very distraught at the amount of patina that has been banished.
I suggest using brass screws for mounting the bell frame to the board and the backboard screws for extra bling. Brass hardware was typical for that period also.
I've been watching your vidéos for years.I beliewe your are one of the best renovators out there.I'm watching from France. I also appreciate the humor and your dachshund with his eyes, seeming to say what he's saying please me.Continue to show us your talent, and be well.
Merci.
Fantastic job on the boxing bell! I can't believe how nicely it turned out. I also agree with you about the modern times we live in. I was born in the 50''s but I often wish that I had been born earlier so that I could have been an adult during that 50's / 60's era.
John, I cannot agree with you more about being born too late for our time. I also agree that today’s designs have no “Humanity” in them. I love the 40’s and early 50’s designs. When we lived in CT we were in a house built in 1913. It may be similar to your house. Great job on the bell. Lots packed in there. French cleat and picture rail and hooks nice addition. Lots of folks don’t have a clue about these things. The ring bell is certainly a one of a kind item to have. Thanks for another great video. Best Regards, John
Absolutely outstanding John. I must say this is one your best restorations. Your attention to detail and excellent explanations were a pleasure to watch. If it was my bell I would have to ring it every time I walked by so I could enjoy the wonderful tone. 😊
What a superb restoration of that beautiful old bell. Looks great and sounds greater. Your love of the old timey things really shows. Loved the long shot of your shop. Reminds me a lot of mine; lots of clutter but I bet you know where everything is! Great episode.
Great restoration ❤❤. I totally agree things form the old days are well built...new stuff are no comparison...I also love the old stuff....as we all know old is gold .....they shine like a diamond
What a nice job you did, I love the handle and the sound, oh my how nice. I think I would have tried some Brasso on the bell, just to see how it would have come out. Thanks J.
100% with you on the old era stuff. 100%.. I love all the old stuff. One of the reasons I love this channel. And brilliant resto job on the bell,, as per usual. 👍
The bell turned out great! I've seen a lot of boxing matches and whenever the bell gets rung it's always sounded like a dull 'ding ding' to me with no resonance at all - perhaps they all needs their bells restoring 😂 I also like the really obvious dents in the bell where it looks like when the pull string stopped working someone started hitting it with a hammer 😆
Man that 🥊 Bell came out great brother 💯Now all you have to do is practice how to say “Let’s Get Ready to Rumbleeeee” like Michael Buffer😂😂 : But seriously Johnny that’s a GEM ✅ I also like the French Cleats👍🏼 ttys thanks for the lesson🤜🏼🤛🏼
Bell turned out terrific. Just perfect. Wishing to be back in the 30s or 40s you might be a good candidate for a Twilight Zone episode. Wouldn’t that be a hoot.
Nice one John, for whom the bell tolls ? Appreciated the ironic hound, but never doubted you would take it to the next level ! Like you, I feel I was born in the wrong era, but probably 100 yrs out rather than 50 !
I couldn't agree more on the rant! I do wonder now, since you're family has been in your house so long, is there no vintage kitchen left? The bell turned out great, a proper restoration!
Wow turned out great...yeah the bell needed to be polished as we can all see... Those pictures of the vintage kitchens that was what i grew up with ( the ole Icebox )...BTW your friend with the 40ies box i think i have an old manual in good shape with the motor housing on top if he needs one let me know...🖖
Love how the bell came out. It really rings. I am so with you on the old appliances and kitchen designs. I love looking at videos of those kitchens being introduced as new. I would live in one today and love it. Unfortunately, I'd have to live there without my wife 😮😮
there was a time I had an electric range from the 50's. when I got it, it had been in storage from when it was new . so I had a 40 yr old range that was new. I loved it. it was so art deco
John, from all the interest with the feedback, and I'd agree, maybe a top ten restoration projects? This was a fun one! The sound resonance is outstanding, more like a musical instrument then a boxing bell.
It only occurs to me now but the bell could be mounted inside the front door with a string run through the wall to a bell-pull and used as a door chime 🤗
Bell looks fantastic! Loved the video! I see you were using 5p on the nylon fiber disc? Have you used the 7 or 9p? Is the 5p best to use? Have you used those nylon scrubber discs? They come in purple (aggressive), blue (medium) and black (soft). I've seen green too but I haven't used any of those yet. I don't know about the look on that dog. Kinda looks like wants to give someone a tuneup! 🤓🤣👍👍👍👍 I remember the Honda Elsinore. I owned Yamaha's. I would get that Yamaha-hahahahaha from people. Owned a 250cc and 400cc Enduros' and a 750cc Virago. I wanted to get a Honda CB750 four but that never happened. To the good ol' days!
Great Video 👍 Part 2 of the Vintage boxing bell restoration was a knockout 😵🥊. Those patina boys probably had a conniption fit 😡when you polished that 🔔 Bell 😂😂, Oh well. I think the polished bell 🔔 looks fantastic, awesome job 👍. That was good information on how to use scotch -brite to make those scratches disappear from using the fiber wheel disc👍👍. The French cleat was a awesome choice for the wooden display and the outside trim for the wooden display board was over the top, great job 👍. I like the inserts you used for holding the 🔔 bell base instead of using just plain wood screws. Putting a new wooden hammer on the clapper arm that you got set right made a lot of difference to that sound plus also getting the springs adjusted for the arms of the mechanism really also made a difference in the sound the bell makes. Well again great video and can’t wait to see what you do on Friday. Have a great evening. 😄👍👍
Funny. DJ is always talking about his fiber wheel so about 10 days ago I ordered a couple. Now I have to find another bench grinder to dedicate to fiber. So glad to see your fiber tutorial and the paper bushing tip. Incredible. Thank you. Beautiful bell.
Do you think those refrigerators were called Monitor after their resemblance to the USS Monitor from the Civil War? Another beautiful restoration. The bell sounds amazing.
Bell came out awesome mate. To avoid the dreaded P word when talking about oxide layers on bronze and copper just use the fancy French term verdigris 😁. I get that "I wish I was born earlier" feeling sometimes but then I tell myself these were just the designs of the day and designs from those previous eras which I find to be absolutely fantastic the people of the day probably spent next to zero time admiring it was just day to day humdrum for them. I know I distinctly remember cars from my childhood not being terribly inspiring to me back then and all samey, now cars from those days which I thought were terribly boring are sought after classics. Seems weird to think people will become nostalgic for the computer generated designed stuff getting churned out these days but it will happen.
Matthew- My Girlfriend’s mother needed a new stove, she went to 4 store looking and came home very disappointed. She said everything was ugly, cheap and expensive. 😂😂😂👍
I know a guy who has a fridge from the 50s that still runs like new. On another note, I was at work (I’m a janator at a church built in the 30s) and as I was emptying trash, I saw a antique outlet cover in the trash, it’s got a lot of style, I think it’s made by Hubble out of Bakelite (I saved it). What makes me sad is that something like that would be thrown away.
Very nice project. I remember going to some boxing matches in the old Madison Square Garden (59th St) those bells didn’t resonate to long. Sometimes they’d ring them multiple times at the end of the round.
Hi Scoutcrafter, we used to have those mouldings in the UK in brick built houses in the 50s, taking them down years ago my dear old Dad dropped a wood chisel into the scaffold board he was standing on.......about 6 inches from my head!!!! 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇬🇧✌️
Great job! It sounds just like you would expect it to. Though I wonder if you considered using a felt washer above and below the bell to further reduce the dampening? It may not make much of a difference, but it might???🤔🤔🤔
Looks great!!! Maybe mount it outside on your porch and ring it EVERY night for a Possum dinner, bill. 😅 Have a Jesus filled day everyone Greg in Michigan
We're the same age +/- a year John and I couldn't agree with you more. Give me the medicine and dental from today, but the aesthetics of the stuff built 60-80 years ago rocked. John you did a great job except when you added the trim molding. I’m very surprised you didn’t 45 them. It’s not too late. Also the washer and screw holding the striker should have been brass. I’ll shut up now and wait for Friday’s show. Thank You
I couldn’t agree with you more. I don’t necessarily want to be born earlier but stuff today does not excite me. The things from 50 to 100 years ago. That is cool. Great job on the restoration. Have a good one.

John, that bell came out really nice! One of your best restorations with nice touches of new techniques added to it. Every time you rang the bell it made me want to get out my old Gillette razor and shave. Look sharp, Be sharp! Friday Night at the Fights!
Hoosier cabinets are one of my favourites, going to make one....someday 😅 On to bells, I have a sizeable bell in my shop, may have come off a boat, I just have it hung up and pretend to be a pub landlord occasionally....now that verdigris that comes off brass, bronze and copper is real poisonous, you dont want to be breathing any of that in, in fact I believe many copper salts are poisons.
I LOVE the bell! That's just the sort of 'just south' of normal that appeals to me and makes a great talking point. I guarantee everyone that walks into the room would want to give it a ding!!😅
Nice job, now you just need to immitate Howard Cossell while i go listen to Anita Ward sing about Ring her bell. Corrosian is not patina. Never understood how corrosian on metal from neglect became patina. Wear from use was what it started out as. I think it has changed because A they can fake it and B people are to lazy to know the difference.
I use those threaded inserts a ;lot in making jigs and stopped driving them in with an allen wrench a while ago because they are soft sintered metal; and the top splits open quite easily. a much more reliable way to install them is with a bolt or some threaded rod, with a nut and a locking nut, and a spanner. I'm sure you must already know this.
Great job again, John, what a lovely bell. My dad is a bit punchy and jumped out of his chair swinging when you rang it 😉. Just one thing, visually I get the feeling the lines of the board planking should have been arranged vertically, in line with the hanging cord (turned 90°). I think it would all look a bit more harmonious.
It looks like the lever that pulled the striker back should have something on the end like a knob or maybe some sort of handle that comes out at a 90 degree from the lever to operate it. Maybe you had mentioned this and I missed but I see you did use a cord pull. Excellent work on this classic piece.
Could not agree more about the old times. When I see an old magazine with an advertisement for a Sears mail order home I feel a strange comfort from that picture.
Boy that is a beautiful bell now. I recognize that file handle. LOL French cleat is a great way to hang things in the home.
Hook! That was your file handle!!! I couldn’t recognize the neat handwriting on the index card and was hoping it would come to me! You are the man! 😃👍
Beautiful Mate!! Now it needs a good story to go with it!! I think that Bell was used in the Thrilla in Manila
October 1, 1975 eh!!☻
Very good restoration. The proof of the pudding is that the bell sounds just like it was supposed to 100 years ago. Enjoyable tutorial. Bell looks great . I bet the patina boys are very distraught at the amount of patina that has been banished.

Awesome!
I cannot believe how much I learn with each of your videos! Thank you.
Really nice job on the boxing bell. Love the pup giving the skeptical stink eye! 😋
Beautiful job! Sounds great!

Excellent work ScoutCrafter! The bell looks brand new and sounds great. This was a really neat tutorial. Thanks for doing this and sharing your work.

John- They are re-introducing the retro look items today but without the durability and quality of their original counterparts! 🫣😂👍
Absolutely outstanding John. I must say this is one your best restorations. Your attention to detail and excellent explanations were a pleasure to watch. If it was my bell I would have to ring it every time I walked by so I could enjoy the wonderful tone. 😊
Agree, the bell needs to be hung where every so often, just for the enjoyment, John could give it a ring.
That is why my wife does not allow bells in our house! I would ring it everytime I go by!
That really came out nice. It looks great but still retains it's aged look. Your the restoration king my friend
Fantastic sight and sound, ScoutCrafter. Very nice work.
What a superb restoration of that beautiful old bell. Looks great and sounds greater. Your love of the old timey things really shows. Loved the long shot of your shop. Reminds me a lot of mine; lots of clutter but I bet you know where everything is! Great episode.
Beautiful work as always! Loud? I bet even Mickey heard that bell!! 😂👍🏻
“I hate everything today.”
- Scout Crafter.
I can relate
Awesome job John !! You did a beautiful job on that bell. You really brought out the shine on it. Sounds great too! Thank You for sharing
Great restoration ❤❤. I totally agree things form the old days are well built...new stuff are no comparison...I also love the old stuff....as we all know old is gold .....they shine like a diamond

Simply amazing scout what a great restoration one of your best ever
Fantastic job god bless take care 🙏🪖🇺🇸🇳🇿🦅🗽🇦🇷45
Awesome job on the bell! I knew you would do it justice! Old things were just made better and had more class!

Are you kidding me! You really outdid yourself. So many great tips and techniques in what seems like a simple project. Love it!!!
Nice job on the bell.👍🏻
When I spotted your truck in the picture with the refrigerator, I was certain you lugged it home to restore/use. Nice video.
Nice one John, for whom the bell tolls ?
Appreciated the ironic hound, but never doubted you would take it to the next level !

I couldn't agree more on the rant! I do wonder now, since you're family has been in your house so long, is there no vintage kitchen left? The bell turned out great, a proper restoration!
Alex- My kitchen is very vintage! Nothing new except a 35 year old microwave! 😂👍
Wow turned out great...yeah the bell needed to be polished as we can all see...

Great restoration. Well worth a two part series.
Somehow, someway, I would make that my doorbell. Such an awesome awesome thing to restore. John, you did great!
Excellent job as always...sir...Westinghouse so cool...
that 1937 fridge still working , amazing.
That came out really really nice! 👍
You made me laugh, you and me both 1930 1940s you are so spot on. I just love old stuff and it was made to last
As expected, an awesome outcome! Thanks for sharing this!
there was a time I had an electric range from the 50's. when I got it, it had been in storage from when it was new . so I had a 40 yr old range that was new. I loved it. it was so art deco
I was anticipating a drum roll before rolling out some Flitz metal polish instead of generic.
John, from all the interest with the feedback, and I'd agree, maybe a top ten restoration projects? This was a fun one! The sound resonance is outstanding, more like a musical instrument then a boxing bell.
Love the sarcastic dog
Looks great, sounds even better, excellent job finishing the project, good way to hang the bell, thanks for the video sir.

They are great but a little messy! 🫣😂👍

From what I read they was the exact reason those 1927 models were referred to as “Monitors”. 😃👍
Bell came out awesome mate.

Wow that is beautiful and sounds even better than I imagined 👍

We're the same age +/- a year John and I couldn't agree with you more. Give me the medicine and dental from today, but the aesthetics of the stuff built 60-80 years ago rocked. I would've loved to been a pilot in the Army Air Forces during WWII than the career I had in the USAF. Oh, and the clothes they wore back then....hats, 3-piece suits, painted ties....fuggedaboutit!! Oh, btw, being in the Service previously, why didn't you use Never Dull on that bell ;-).
That Dog can see right thru us. 🐕🐶
Pretty cool project. I would have used T nuts to mount it to the board. My suggestions for tuning would be felt and plastic washers to mount the bell. You obviously unbent the hammer arm which was my last suggestion. A harder piece of wood (or even your delrin stock) may give a sharper strike note.
Turned out great!
Those carriage bolts are a bit distracting though....
Still, I'm jealous.
That is just beautiful now. Makes me miss going to the little auditorium in our hometown for boxing tourneys. I'm with you on everything old school. None of my grandfathers or my collected old tools break. All this new stuff is junk.
Looks and sounds great! It sounds like my trolley gong. I like the 30’s and 40’s, also. I think it is the design and quality from that era.
John, that bell came out really nice! One of your best restorations with nice touches of new techniques added to it. Every time you rang the bell it made me want to get out my old Gillette razor and shave. Look sharp, Be sharp! Friday Night at the Fights!
Hoosier cabinets are one of my favourites, going to make one....someday 😅
On to bells, I have a sizeable bell in my shop, may have come off a boat, I just have it hung up and pretend to be a pub landlord occasionally....now that verdigris that comes off brass, bronze and copper is real poisonous, you dont want to be breathing any of that in, in fact I believe many copper salts are poisons.
That's a piece of art! 🛠👍😊
It came out beautifully. You do need to change the mounting screws though. Need copper or black screws.
I LOVE the bell!
That's just the sort of 'just south' of normal that appeals to me and makes a great talking point. I guarantee everyone that walks into the room would want to give it a ding!!😅

Great job, the bell looks wonderful! Now that sound will ring in your head the next time you have a disagreement with someone, lol. See you on Friday.
Good Stuff, thxs for sharing...God Bless America
What a "striking" transformation! Very nice, indeed.
Fantastic! Cheers
Another great video.Enjoyed the polishing technique.
One of my favorite parts it's the scout crafter emblem you put in the backside of the board. Your basically a celebrity to those who follow you!
That thing is awesome John! I like the clever way that you did the cord handle. Much respect, Bill.
John….. you were saved by the bell….. wonderful job as always…..James
The bell turned out beautiful Scout! Loved the attention to detail with clocking the flathead screws for the base. Top notch!
I love this project. I notice you lined up the screw slots on the French cleat perfectly. It's the little details, you know?
Spectators at ringside will be looking at that bell instead of the fight, Beautiful job!
Sounds and looks great! A real conversation piece. Love the cord and handle. Thanks
I cut a small piece of copper pipe to use as a sleeve/shim to center my fiber wheel. Great video as always. 👍
Of course, if you lived back in olden times, there’d be no fiber wheels. Or you could be the one to invent them. 😉
As a longtime boxing fan, I think that's very cool.
Looks great! I made a bushing for my fiber wheels on the lathe out of wood and it got rid of 99 percent of the wobble.
S.C. That would make a heck of a door bell.. Turned out beautiful...
I learn something useful every single video. Thank you!
Could not agree more about the old times. When I see an old magazine with an advertisement for a Sears mail order home I feel a strange comfort from that picture.
