The first softlock is basically Luigi's existence as a whole.
Never able to surpass Mario. Stuck in his shadow. Luigi used to be paler than Mario. Probably due to this softlock.

I got the softlock on MP1 during platform peril and had no clue what had happened. I had submitted a video of what happened to the MP discord and no one could figure out what happened either. I'm glad to finally have some closure Snooplax!
I distinctively remember in Mario Party 2, I softlocked in Grab Bag, the battle minigame. When the timer ran out, one character was in a walk cycle loop stuck on another character, standing in their ending destination. The walking character was just in the right side of the standing character that they couldn't go around. I was in disbelief when that happened, you gotta try it out.
If a COM player has 99 stars and talks to Boo, the game will softlock because it tries to steal a star and has already the maximun amount. This happens on MP1 and 2, but not 3. On MP3 if it has 99 stsrs, it chooses to steal coins instead.
I love how they accounted for that in 3, despite that being physically impossible to hit.

5:00 Fun fact, I once saw a speedrun clip where a weird glitch happened in that minigame. Basically, even though all the characters landed, the victory animations were still trying to load. The game was basically frozen, and the player thought he softlocked. After a few seconds, the player started controlling Peach, even though he was playing as Luigi. He had Peach Ground Pound a coconut onto the barrel, then after a second, Peach returned to position, and the victory animations finally loaded, with the minigame concluding. It wasn't a total softlock, but it was really weird. ^^;

I think all of these could have been avoided by simply having a timer that automatically forces the minigame to end after a few seconds, even if the characters are still not in their win/lose animations.
Some minigames do have that as shown in one of the Mario party tries and in the lava minigame for 2
The real question here, is were you controlling all 4 characters at once in most of these mini-games?? If so, that's even more impressive than the softlocks to me! 😂

I know Coconut Conk also softlocks Mario Party 3 when it's played through emulation: once the game starts (or is supposed to start), the player inside the barrel rolls off screen instead of coming back to their starting position to begin the game. As far as I know, there haven't been any solutions to solve this problem to properly play this particular minigame on an emulator.

You missed on in mp1 and 2 (I believe it was fixed in 3), where if a cpu who has the maximum number of stars (99 I think) pass boo and they try to steal a star, they will just get stuck on the option because they couldn't select it, and the game would softlock. Great video otherwise
But is it even technically possible for one character to get that many stars within 50 turns?
@@Stonefallow fair point, but I figured he was trying to include all softlocks, even if they are so unrealistic that they practically require cheats. So I just thought I'd mention it
This is where game Quality Assurance Testing comes into it.
Sometimes Nintendo would be smart with their Super Mario Club team of testers in Japan finding all of these soft locks, but they can't cover all of them before a game's release I guess.
This is why I love gaming videos! So many unique concepts being created on older and newer games. Great work on this!

I got effectively softlocked in the mining kart on rails 2v2 minigame several times. It's the one that takes place over lava, not the mountain, so I think it's MP 1 or maybe 2. There's a deep dip that if you aren't traveling fast enough to escape, you'll get stuck in the bottom with no way to gather enough speed to get out. You also can't tip over to fall into the lava.

Grab Bag from Mario Party 2 can be soft locked, but it's on *very* rare occasions.
Sometimes, when all the characters are moving to their ending positions, sometimes, some of the characters will just eternally walk around one of them. It's happened to me only a handful of times, but it's still possible.

This may have been addressed somewhere but to me a true softlock is also completed when nothing other than a hard reset changes the purgatory statw the game is in ie: player inputs. In any case, I will be trying these because I love the Mario Party series. Cheers!
My experiencie was in the Handcar Havoc game... If you dont get throught in the some part you get stacked and its imposible to leave there and gets worst when your opponent falls too

@@Snooplax There's a Mario Party 1 softlock you missed: if you play the minigame Key pa Way and either pass the key to another player or open the door, doing it with perfect timing when the timer hits EXACTLY zero will softlock the game. I'll try to replicate the trick and see if I can remember some more details about it.

Mario party 1 would literally give you fucking blisters playing it. Anyone old enough to remember the dreaded tug of war fucking minigame that required spinning the joystick like the flash. Many young hands were cut playing Mario Party 1.

I can imagine Mario and Donkey Kong are standing in front of Luigi because they think that it isn't fair that Luigi was declared the winner even though the announcer says he won when they crossed first.
mario party 7 has a softlock in spinner cell. If someone touches the spiked spinner while in midair as the timer hits 0, they get stuck in midair, then after about 30 seconds a failsafe kicks in where the team of 3 wins without the affected player doing the winning animation.
5:00 one time while i was playing this minigame, for some reason the player in the barrel wouldn't stop spinning when the time ended so the game soft-locked. could never replicate it.
I experienced the bounce n trounce soft lock when I was like 6, I remember thinking it was so weird and freaky but also kinda funny

I remember getting the bounce softlock in running of the bulb as a kid. Been forever, so I don't remember the specifics
I accidentally softlocked myself in a SNES game called Brandish. It is a very grind-heavy RPG, and I was in the hallway leading up to the final boss. An antagonist named Alexis talks to the player in a cutscene, then opens a trap door beneath his feet and runs away. The player is supposed to fall to the floor below, make their way back up, and continue to the final boss. I made the mistake of saving the state (I was running an emulator) directly after the dialogue ended... but my character didn't fall through the trap door, and I was permanently softlocked. Ruined a very lengthy playthrough RIGHT before the final boss, I was so freaking upset.
You should be able to softlock in the Coconut level by having two players to the left and right of the the center.
The bounce mechanics seem to change by gravitating the bouncing player to the middle. If that gravitation simply makes him bounce on another player he will bounce back and forth indefinitely.
Now softlock Mario Party 4-8!

In other words, each of the first three Mario Party games has one known softlock, and at least one other mini-game that seems like it should have a potential softlock but doesn't because I can only imagine beta testers caught them. Tough break to anyone who legitimately triggered the Platform Peril softlock by accident during the final stretch of a 50 turn board.

I unintentionally soft locked MP1 with the mine cart game. You can show down and end up in a dip and be unable to get enough speed to crest. And there’s no timer.
