I love that your videos focus on techniques as opposed to having to find techniques buried in sew alongs. Thanks for providing useful content with clear camera views!
You are so welcome! I love making these because I can refer back to them when I sew this technique again :)
This is going to be so helpful when I make these pants. Thanks
I’m just about to sew a pair of shorts with this kind of waistband and a front fly zipper! Love your videos, they’re very helpful and educational! I’ve learned a lot from you, thank you!
She does have a special gift Doesn't she. Wished she lived near me. I would love to work for her free. She has so much to give.
Another fantastic informative video Karina! You are such a great teacher, providing easy to understand construction techniques. You challenge me to step outside of the instructions sometimes to get the best fit for me! ❤️🇨🇦❤️
This has a lot of steps but is so well done. Can’t wait for the video on how to convert a waistband to this style!
Another great detailed tutorial. Thanks Karina.
I absolutely love your videos. I always learn so very much and it's always clear what you're doing and why. Thank you.
I put facings on all of my waisted skirts and pants as being a shorty they look better and feel better.
It’s been years since i’ve seen a pattern with a waist facing. They are so much more comfortable, I don’t know how I forgot about them! I’m looking forward to seeing those pants pattern release and your fabulous red ones.
They have been released already :)
I just checked my closet .. all of my Talbots and Banana Republic dress skirts (side invisible zips) and trousers (fly-front zips) use this technique. Thanks very much for the instruction, Karina. I am looking forward to seeing how to convert existing patterns. I see that for side zips, they tuck a diagonal corner of facing to finish the top and catch the lining.
Wonderful instruction and very clear. Thank you so much!
You are so welcome!
fantastic, great tutorial thank you for sharing
One of my favorite ways to wear pants! I have some rtw pants faced like this & they are so comfortable.
Great content as usual 😊
I agree. I’ve had a few and sewn a few and wished more had facings :)
Gorgeous finish, thankbyou
Excellent tutoring
Your camera work in showing the steps and techniques you use, is fantastic! I love how you show us where everything should be placed, by using the frixion pens. That is so helpful to me. Visualizing ahead of time how things will come together really helps me learn the steps. Thanks so much!
Such good facing advice!!❤
Thanks. That was very helpful
Glad it helped
Thank you Karina, I had forgotten how to make this kind of band facing. It was the only kind we did years ago! You show how to sew it in easy concise steps. 💐
Thank you!
Ahh, block fusing - I would never have thought to do that, but it makes so much sense! thanks. Mavis
Excellent video, great idea of doing a waist band. Now something to do for a better fit and good looking band. Bought the pattern with your code. Thanks again for this great class..,❤
Wonderful! Have fun!
Very professional looking pants. They look as good inside as out. Thanks for another great tutorial.
Thank you as always a great video easy to follow.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks yet again for your evaluating a new pattern before I consider buying it. I love pocket pants and this pattern looks well designed for women. Thank you for your video and I will use it once I begin to sew my first Largo Cargos :)
Thank you Karina. I was not planing to buy the Largo but now I see that I can sew them easily with your help. I shy away from zippers but zippered pants are my preferred pants to wear. I can't wait to see you versions.
B.
This is really great Karina. Thankyou! I have just used your tutorial to add a fly zipper to some pants and also wanted to incorporate a facing waistband but couldn’t quite figure out the steps involved in sewing the fly zip around it. This makes it very clear what I need to do.
I look forward to the tutorial for drafting the facing waist band. ……..It will tell me what I did wrong when I inevitably go ahead and try it myself because I am too impatient to wait for you to show me how to do it🤷🏼♀️
Fantastic tutorial! I am really excited to buy this pattern and put all of your previous tutorials together (starting with how to measure my body) to make the perfect pants. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your tutorials.
A great in depth instructions karina a great resource for us all thank you ❤
What a great way to sew a waistband! I love your clear and concise instructions. I'm definitely going to try this and can't wait to try this pattern! ❤
I thought I would let you know (if you don't know already) is that material strip that goes from the bottom of the rear pocket is for holding the head of your hammer. So you can carry your hammer around with you. Figures that me (a Canadian) would know that! LOL
lol I don't see when I would hold a hammer :)
Great, clear instructions! Thank you.
Loving your sneak peak, lm looking forward to seeing your Largos💕
I love sewing pants tops like this method. For some reason, a waistband just cuts into me when I sit or bend over! But this kind just is so comfortable.
This is SO helpful! I hate waistbands. For me they're uncomfortable because I have a very short torso and at the sides of my waist, my bottom ribs almost touch the top of my pelvis. So waistbands won't lie flat; they fold over and bunch up. So I much prefer facings but have never used your technique before which results in a much neater finish than what I've done in the past. Two questions: (1) If I put the zipper in the back, would it be better to do a centered zipper insertion, perhaps with a tab across the top that would carry a couple of hook/eye fastenings? (2) I like to add a little elastic near center back (maybe 2-3" on either side of a back zipper), to reduce the tendency for the back waistband to gape when I sit or bend (I have a swayback). Do have a neat way to add this between the facing and the pant?
This was SEW HELPFUL! Could we use the pockets on this pattern as a belt loop? How would we do that neatly?
As long as the edges of the pockets are serged on the inside, the top can be a loop. All you need to do it leave the top section unsewn (above the top stitching of the facing)
Hi Katrina, I love your videos you explain everything so well. I haven’t sewn for many years, when I did I could just buy a pattern and it would fit but not anymore. I am determined to make some trousers so have been watching all your pants videos ready to try. Did you make the video where you change a waistband to a facing? Also I used to have a pair of trousers which I loved, they had a side zip and no waistband as such, the zip went to the top and the facing was inside have you seen a pattern like this? Sarah
U r great.❤
Can't wait to try this❤ great video
@LiftingPinsandNeedles Did you ever post the video for creating a facing for a pattern with a waistband? I have been trying to find it, but haven't located it. I really want to try this with the LN Duet trousers.
Hi Karina , Thank you for your excellent detailed video 😀 I have a question : I want to try the top -down ; center -out method of pant fitting . Would it work to make a “ waistband “ using the facing pattern to anchor the pants to start fitting ?? ( I plan on making a trial waistband using s rap fabric , interfacing & velcro closures as J Stern demonstrates . Thank you
I don’t have any recommendations for that method and it’s not one I’ll be using (there are things I don’t agree with). I also was under the impression that it only works for wide leg styles and not ones where the waist/hips are fitted.
Ah, OK What is it about that particular method that you feel does not work well? Thank you for you advice 😃
Hi, I was wondering about the pen does it wash out?
It’s a frixion pen and yea, it washes out and also disappears with heat.
Is that a sticker you're using to mark the reinforcement dot? If so, what size is it?
Not a sticker. Just a digital dot I add in editing :)
When I look at the largo cargo instructions, the facing ends before the zipper guard as opposed to your technique. I’m trying to understand why one would do it that way/ is there some advantage I’m not seeing/ or will there be some problem if I use this technique on the largo cargos (eg did you lengthen you facing to give even more wiggle room than what is included in the pattern)?
I do have a disclaimer in every description of my videos where it states that I don’t follow pattern instructions exactly. This video is not based on the largo cargo instructions you see in the pattern. This is combining my experience with this technique and I prefer to catch the shield with the facing instead of leaving it to the end and it being sort of loose. It’s my preference and how I chose to show the technique that is general and not only for the largo cargo pattern. The facing is made longer than the Center and it’s enough to include the zipper shield.
Yes, I did realize that my question was more so I could understand the pros and cons of each method. With the instructions as written it almost seems a little unfinished because the zipper guard isn’t enclosed but I wasn’t sure if there was a reason behind that or if I need to make adjustments to use this method (like I noticed you placed your zipper in a slightly different spot)
@@laurahovey391 I offset the zipper 1/4” away from the seam so that the final topstitching that you see is “narrower” at 1 1/4” rather than 1 1/2” from the center. I like it narrower and really dislike it wider….. the wider look seems more masculine to me.
Thanks I’m going to try it. I love your videos, I learn so much!
Did you see Sew Report’s video about Joann Fabrics? It is controlled by an investment company. None of the executives have any background in sewing. And they’ve bankrupted the company. Better stock up on interfacing, thread, and basics.
I don’t live in the US so am not familiar at all with that shop. It’s a shame they ruined it.
It is essentially the primary brick and mortar store with substantial quantities of sewing supplies in my area. @@LiftingPinsandNeedles
Looks scary serging the fly area, may have to jus5 zigzag on sewing machine
You can do that too. It’s not really scary if you go slow
