Thank you for making this zipper the easiest installation I have ever done. I made three pants and each time the zip installation was the easiest most simply explained instruction demonstration and explanation I have received on Utube Well done. Great teacher.
Thank you so much. This makes a beautiful fly zipper. I am putting the zipper center front on a jumpsuit and am adding a narrow artificial 'waistband' to finish the top.
Thank for sharing, I just cut today a pant with the same extension, I love the basting you do my machine or by hands, a great tutorial, enjoy your videos.
vogue 9361 fly zipper construction got me confused with a grown on facings.🤔.Thanks so much Karina for helping me unravel the mystery of such zippers. So much easier!
Thanks for this great video. I recently made some itch to stitch pants and really messed up the zipper installation. This really clears things up. I just started another pair of pants and will definitely be following this video.

I love all your tips ~ and I even take notes while I’m watching, because even seasoned sewists can learn new things. Thanks for another fabulously helpful tutorial!
Thank you Karina. This is how I was taught in high school 45 +years ago. It is sort of a modified way we were taught to sew a lap zipper also. A lot of the older techniques have been lost over the years.
Update: I just installed 2 zippers this way and I was successful!!!🎉🎉🎉 I have to admit that the first fly zipper came out a tiny bit crooked because I was too lazy to hand baste. I have learned my lesson! The second zipper fly I hand basted and it came out straight.
I’m so glad you linked this video in your Taroko skirt video. I remember watching it when you first released it, but naturally I’d forgotten about it. I haven’t done a fly front for eons, when it came time to do the fly, I couldn’t work it out for the life of me. (Blame old people brain 🙄) these _how too_ videos are a really valuable resource 😊
Wow! What a great tutorial. Thank you so much. Pants are top of my list as fall approaches. Going to re watch your pant fitting videos. Thank you so much
Thank you so much Karina. I was struggling this afternoon with my Largo pants zipper and I just new you would have a super helpful video. You saved my day❤️
Thank you SO much for this video! I've been struggling to put a fly zip in. The vintage pattern instructions weren't helpful, nor were 3 books I consulted. But following along with this video, I had the zipper in within just about 30 minutes, and it looks great! I'll never install a fly zipper any other way. Thank you again!
Oh Karina, I can't explain how happy this video makes me! I've always thought zippers were difficult and avoided patterns that include them (probably because most of my experience is the annoyance of replacing zippers in readymade garments), so this video is a real eye opener. Many thanks for the clear instructions and no, I wont tell anyone what the pattern might be... although it is already Friday here, so I might just go and have a look at you know where.
That technique is easier than others! I don’t know why, but I’ve always loved to insert zippers. I love to undo the basting to see the almost completed zipper, and that it worked. I can’t wait to see this skirt, your fabric is so pretty!
I saw this method two weeks ago with a sewing teacher named Judy Kessinger. I was amazed! She doesn't have it on a video though, so I am so happy you did! I couldn't remember how she did it. This will make my anxiety about using a fly in pants go away for good!!! Can't wait until tomorrow to see the rest of the project! Thank you soooo much!
Just in time for fall pants and long skirt sewing here in the US. It's elastic all summer for me! Now after your pants tutorials and developing my own perfect fitting pattern, it's time for real pants! 😉👖Thank you!
Thanks Karina! I have tried this general method but I didn't care for the results I got. I think your tips will make this more appealing! Looking forward to trying it again!
Omg thank you for this for I've stayed away from zippers.....Would you PLEASE do a tutorial on stitching in the ditch....My bloody fingers will be grateful.
Karina you're an absolute blessing. I started watching this vlog before my reverse shoulder replacement this morning. I'm now in high care for the night and watching the rest of your video has cheered me up immensely! I cannot thank you enough. It took my mind completely off my environment and the rehab that lies ahead. The only sadness is that I will only be able to cut and sew after 3-6 months! In the meantime I'll feast on other's achievements. 💓💓💓👌👏👏👏
Hi Karina - thanks for another great sewing video, I'm going to give this a try today as I've been looking at refining my zip's so this is a good addition to learn the techniques. I have a question on another subject perhaps another video idea? When drafting my own patterns I've struggled to find a way to store them so that I can see them easily if needed and not take up too much space. I tried hanging them on hooks, but just don't have the room. A4 Envelopes I've got are too small - how do you keep track and store your own personal patterns so you can reuse again when needed?
See at minute 3:20. It does not matter what seam allowance it is. Because this technique can be applied to any pattern, use the one the original pattern is drafted with.
Unfortunately what i didn’t realise was that the fly section had to be cut at the time you cut the whole trouser leg. I had got stuck with a very poor pattern instruction and thought your method was a solution, and because of the interfacing - despite having watched the film twice before i did anything - it looked as if you laid the two fly pieces over the centre seam, and it was only when i turned mine inside out at the same time as yours and i had a seam allowance showing and you didn’t that i realised my mistake. Perhaps it would be good to show you cutting the fabric to make this really clear? Thank you anyway. also really curious about why you don’t put pins at a right angle to the seam and sew straight over the pins? A lot less hassle than taking them out as you go.
I never put pins like you say because I don’t think they line up the raw edges accurately. It’s all preference and I don’t think I do is wrong per se. It’s been ok for me for a long time. I don’t film cutting out because it’s the only section of the process I do in my own time. Filming it all is super exhausting, but if you’ve never made sewing videos, you’d never know.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles i understand if it is time consuming, no i’ve never made sewing videos strangely enough, so perhaps make it clear verbally? I never said you did the pins wrong, i was simply curious. Sorry if i have offended you i was simply trying to flag up a problem i encountered, you did say you were open to constructive criticism and i wasn’t even criticising just making a suggestion and being curious…
I showed exactly the measurements and how I added it to the Center front of the original piece. I don’t think it was necessary to see me cutting the piece of paper. Also, the length of the piece will vary with the length of the zipper needed.
Thank you! Wish I had found this tutorial before I made my jeans. Live and learn.

Wonderful! It’ll get even easier once you do it over and over 😀
Oh my gosh thank you!!! My pattern does not explain zipper install well and this is the only tutorial that has made sense!!!
You are so welcome!

Thank you! I am making Ginger Jeans, and this video is perfect!!
Great tutorial
Thank you Karina, your tutorial on adding a zipper to a intergrated fly really helpfull.
Very neat and beautifully done. I don't like to snip either🙂
snipping hurts my heart lol :)

Dear Karina, what size is the center seam? It looks like 5/8?
See at minute 3:20. It does not matter what seam allowance it is. Because this technique can be applied to any pattern, use the one the original pattern is drafted with.
I know you’ve said you can’t get Fray Check down there but that is the other option to use on the snipped area. :)
My pattern Dnt call for any extra pieces.. when it comes to fly
I'm curious as to whether the measurement (1-3/4") you gave for the template are good for both men's and women's garments?
Yep. The size of the zipper does not change.

Integrated facing is confusing because you didn't make any tutorial of how to make it
