  • Radioddity reached out to me to see if would be interested in helping them promote their 8th anniversary. They wanted me to do a live show to give away a BUNCH of great radios. Sadly, I missed out on the time frame they needed, but they were nice enough to send me out this great radio to check out.
It's super tiny, and super useful! Please be sure to check out their webpage, and please support their company!

This is the one I have, and I love it. Mounted on a piece of board, I can move it from home to car in the event of emergencies and my cell phone goes dead. However, it is also amusing to listen to sometimes. In the event of a hurricane, you can lose your cellular and internet services when you need it the most. ANYBODY who has ditched their landline really needs to get a CB radio.

Oh. This size is great for sticking in wife's glove compartment with small ant for emergencies ( if she hates radio). Camping with small lithium bat and so on, gives a lifeline along with GMRS/FRS (especially in mountains). Be sure to allow for air circulation to dump heat. There is a temptation to stuff little radios in tight places. Radio Oddity is a neat company. Have bought ham stuff from them. Never had an issue. Enjoy your vids. Nice info for folks. My Dad "Hondo John" always had a good CB station monitoring Chan. 9 and 19 in central Texas ( also W5EWF). Helped a lot of folks for emergencies, directions and just company on lonely nights. One of the best uses of CB. He was a ham since 1934. (SK). High speed Morse mostly, rt'd Signal Corps, loved radio. I caught the bug from him. Operate HF and VHF, Civil Defense/ ARES op for decades. A great hobby and useful service. CB is part of that and can be a stepping stone to Ham Radio if so inclined. Keep up great vids!

Yes Radioddity has a pretty good customer service. I needed spare batteries for handheld transceivers I purchased from them several years ago, so I sent them an email asking where I could purchase them. I did not expect them to reply but they did less than 48 hours after I sent the email. Not only that but I could actually understand the reply. Good English (not the kind you find in those English instruction manuals). So yes, I will be a return customer if I find something I like and want it bad enough.

I didn't think that CB radios are now getting to be that small. But that's how it is. Especially now that the CB radio is going to start going FM anyway. But you know once that happens I think the FCC going to start coming up with some rules for them CB radio being on fm. I think that's a very good idea. That way I'll have to worry about the Skip and everything. Cuz back in the old days when I used to listen to amcb I used to hear a lot of skip as a matter of fact I talk to somebody in Hawaii 2000 miles away and this was back in the mid 80s. But you know what that's all I want to start coming to fruition when FM is on CB radio. What are we going to do then are we going to start using our CB handles or our old CB call letters. That's right I'd sure like to know are we going to be able to still use our handles the same way we do on a.m. or are we still going to have to basically break out our old CB call signs and start using those on FM because I still remember mine from 41 years ago which was and still is KBRB6013That's the way I used to remember them and that's how I still remember him now.

I understand due to your location you are at a disadvantage when it comes to finding someone on the radio to talk to. To make your video's more effective i would suggest either having someone (wife maybe) close by in a mobile that you can talk. Even if you need to setup a radio in someone's house would help. Just adding power and going thru the a menu's is nice to know info, but having that receiver sound and someone to talk to just gives you more credit.

Or even if we wanted to buy one where would we go.
Hmmmmm...... it's a long shot but I just might try going to the Radioddity web site. Yep, it's my lucky day, $59.

FM has actually been legalised now has it? I heard it was possibly going to be passed but didn't know when. I'm in the UK so i'm hoping to hear some US FM skip soon.

I am also curious about this because no matter where I look it up…FM hasn’t been made legal and you still need a license. Other than this…this video is absolutely awesome and I’m getting this radio after this video regardless of FM not being available. If you connect this to a dipole antenna, vertical ,or even a firestic in your house…you will be impressed by how far you can receive and send transmission. My friend was just telling me about his and I just got done watching several videos with demonstrations. If you are someone that has a ton of responsibilities and don’t have time to be looking through all the options then this radio looks like a good option. If you don’t have time to read an entire book to learn all kinds of functions then this radio definitely looks like a good option. It seems to work many times better than other radios within or even beyond it’s price range.👍🏻🍻

Question; have you ever measured SWR over several days, and under different weather conditions ? I have been doing this for a week or so now, and have noticed that when raining, or for the next 12 hours or so after a rain the SWR shifts quite a bit... Yes, connectors outside are sealed as good a possible, but of course the antenna, and exposed cabling do get wet... All cabling it new... Since I have never tried this before, I wonder if this it typical of most antenna installations ? Any comments ? BC

Some of the nicer cb radios have a built in swr and it auto tunes. The president McKinley ssb unit has this feature

    • @Pitman556

@waltsmith6515 built-in automatic SWR calibration on the president makes it super easy. You can adjust the antenna in under 2min and get a perfect swr.
It definitely doesn't adjust the antenna

Any chance you have an extra one of those .i recently had a lightning strike destroyed my whole station antenna coax radio it even killed my power supply .
I am disabled and my radio was my thing.
Anyway i am looking for a used ssb radio but even a used ssb radio is out of my reach on soc.sec. its just hard to replace a whole set up .
    Any thanks .

Disconnect your antenna cord from your radio and put it on a glass jar that way if the lightning strikes it only destroy your antenna and coax and won't destroy anything else

I was not home when it happened.
So got a new one .
I converted it very easy it works on fm .
      Also note .
      It has 13n10 finals.
      4 watts forget that .
Try 18 swings to a little over 30 very clean on the analyzer so paired itup with a galaxy 225 and a 102 inch whip fits nice in a ammo box wirh a 12 volt lipo battery.

7/24/21. FCC signals FM CB will be permitted on 27 MHz. 63 years after the introduction of Class D 27 MHz AM CB Radio the FCC has agreed to permit FM to be used.
"The FCC says: After considering this additional information, we conclude that allowing manufacturers to add FM as an optional modulation scheme will not substantially change the fundamental nature of the CB Radio Service and will improve the user experience, as described by Cobra and President. How people use the service will not materially change or be expanded. Further, Cobra states that AM is a “well established” operating mode that is unlikely to disappear, even if we permit operations in FM mode.
Continuing to mandate AM capability while permitting dual modulation will provide benefits to CB radio users who will have an additional modulation option, while maintaining the basic character of the service.
The addition of FM as a permitted mode will not result in additional interference because users who hear unintelligible audio on a particular channel can simply select another channel or switch modes." -Southgate Amateur Radio News

Ummm - RFG sets the RF output level? RF Gain on any radio I've ever seen deals only w received level. AND does this radio support FM or not? You have a chance to be unambiguous, why not do it.
