    Haven't been in cb radios in over 30 year's. Planning on buying one for the truck and having a little fun again. I'm enjoying your videos. Bringing back the old cb love for me again. Glad to see people getting back into it. Was so much fun back in my day. Something tells me we will be needing these radios for more than hobbies one day... Another great video!

      I just got back on CB radio too, we’ll kinda. Definitely not like I remember 30 years ago. Way too many high-powered radios talking from several states away and virtually nobody local ( probably because they do t want to listen to that garbage). I do like being able to scan and catch the construction crew’s traffic around, which is why I got my radios. I used to drive with some of those guys.

    President is dominating the CB world. I like this, but don't love it enough to drop cash on this one. Still prefer a front firing speaker. If they take all the feature in this and "create" a McKinley II, then I'm all in. I have yet to see a true "McKinley Killer" (okay, except for Leon Czolgosz - Yeah, bad joke). As I see it FM is for short range communication. The ones that will benefit the most from using FM will be the over the road drivers going up and down the interstate. The op’s that go for skip and DX , their mainstay will be SSB and AM. Again that is just my opinion.

    • @FarpointFarms

    I still don't see the point in having ch 9 for emergencies only.... I mean, no one's listening to ch9 because it's for emergencies only.. So if you have an emergency, you tune to ch9 and no one's there...
    At least in maritime radio the emergency channel (16) is for emergencies AND hailing. So everyone listens to 16 at all times, and if you want to contact someone, you just say "Hey you, this is me, let's go to channel ___." That way if you DO have an emergency, there will be people listening.

    Thankfully my local channel is empty other than me most the time both during skip and locally. But splatter from adjacent channels is an issue when the skip comes rolling in so your right FM helps on my handhelds to carry out a conversation but also havent noticed any drop in range either which is great.

    • @FarpointFarms
      @FarpointFarms  ปีที่แล้ว

      That has been the main draw to FM mode so far. It is really effective at killing any AM or SSB skip, or noise. For that alone, it's perfect for truckers.

    Yes Yes Yessssss finally FM mode and CTCSS/DCS tones ( Auto Squelch ) have been approved in Canada! on the lic free CB radio band...... This Means my son will be leave the radio on and i can reach him 100% of the time!
    If the radio is making noise from to much static or other people talking on the same channel, he will turn the cb radio off everytime.
    Now he/we can block out all the static and other people talking with CTCSS/DCS A privacy tones of are choice 🙂
    Cb radio just might make a come back and become a thing again! CB radio is long range with 10 to 25 miles capabilities from car to home base and FM sound is much cleaner than the traditional AM... It certainly can save on cell phone bills when asking the wife on the way home if she need something at the store 🙂

      @Farpoint Farms "We", the end users keeping CB alive in the U.S.A. should designate a couple channels for fm mode. Like 19 is the highway information channel, 9 is for emergencies, 36-40 is for ssb, 6/11 is for morons, we should designate like 30-35 as "FM". Thoughts??

      I would say no, many current enthusiasts of CB have grown up .../ Introduce to CB as AM and are fine with am. IF......IF... CB really takes off again and the Market is SATURATED enough with cheap CB radios having FM already in them i would expect FM to be super popular. For now if you like CB as we have in the states have known it for years now I'd say an older or current am/ssb radio will be fine for a good while

    Thanks for another good video. I’m sure it’s a very nice unit when I’m in my mid 70s can I go back to the early days of just 23 channel. Simple on off squelch turn it off when you don’t wanna hear it. It kind of reminds me of my iPhone too much shit on it that I never use but I don’t know I guess technology is pushing old school side.
    Thank you for your feedback on the length of my coax. But I still don’t understand I’m planning on buying 25 foot of RG213. So I still don’t understand will
    that coax of 25’ Be ok or does it need to be cut by a certain length? Sorry if I sound stupid I just don’t remember a lot. I’m buying a new 5/8 wave Anttena and new coax. So should it be cut down in any increments or will the 25 foot just be OK? Again, thank you very much. You do very good videos and seem to be very smart and up-to-date with them. They really do make some awesome radios. The only issue I have is when I am talking in a normal voice I only manage to get 45% modulation, and even the roger beep only hits 45% and some of the models don't have any place to adjust it. The Thomas FCC for on. I don't have a power mic wired for it to see if it would help with the modulation or not. I guess I will have to get a mic adapter so I can try it out. It's a shame because the McKinley has an adjustment, and when adjusted properly the stock mic sounds great. I am not sold on FM yet but not many people around here use it.

      Ssb is hardly used beyond the power user. Something like 97% of radios sold in the USA did not come with ssb mode.
