    I live with my parents and my family using my computer for stuff like online shopping and banking was a problem for me. We had a really old laptop with Windows installed, but it was too slow for even browsing the web. It used to take more than 5 minutes to boot. I installed Peppermint on it and my father quite liked "this new version of Windows". Also my sister can use it for her homework. Thanks to Peppermint, I don't have to share my computer anymore :) I daily drive Fedora, but Peppermint is one of the distros I love and want the best for.

      You should try Linux Lite - needs even less resources than Peppermint and looks very Windows-like

    I have looked at many distros and have found MX-Linux to be the most rounded distro out of the box. Like you, I feel it's a bit bloaty but otherwise a great distro. It is now my daily driver. Love your travel videos.

      The only thing "bloated" is you. Open synaptic and get rid of what you want gone. It'll take 45 seconds

    MX is the Swiss Army knife of distros--not a specialist at anything but pretty good at everything. It also manages to be both interesting and fun to use. MX tools alone can keep a Linux nerd busy for weeks. Fair review and great video as usual.

    MX is awesome, but I like the minimal Peppermint. It was my first ever Linux distro. Been using it since it came out. Very stable, quick and I like the Arc red theme. Always been my favorite theme. I used menu editor to make launchers for the Firefox and Thunderbird tar, so that I always have the latest releases.

    I love MX. Haven't tried peppermint yet, but I don't like the look or package manager. I often use AV Linux because I use my system for audio and video production. It has lots of apps for audio and video pre installed so I don't have to go searching for them. 😊

    I have both ( Though my MX machine is down at the moment ) I liked the PPM 10 respin better as far as looks etc., but after a week of using PPM11 and changing some things I'm as happy with it as I was with 10 and MX.

    For me absolutely MX, although it is a bit bloated perhaps. Secret contender: SparkyLinux, which is based on Debian (either stable or testing) and has its own software store that can certainly match MX's.

    I prefer peppermint i find to much bloatware can be confusing to a new user,but iv being using linux for along time i like the direction peppermint as gone scrapping ubuntu.But i understand to that you need a little knowlege to use peppermint.

    MX by far... I tried both- Peppermint is ok- but feels not quite right for me.. and at first I hated MX - too complicated- kept screwing it up-- but now I've learned how to use it and LOVE It- especially the SNAPSHOT.. have MY system on usb and can put it on anything and it's just like working on mine now.. DEBIAN stablity- speed, and it's NOt that heavy on resources considered all that's in it.. and the KDE gives me unlimited customizability now that I know how to use it!!!! Oh- and I didn't abaondon Ubuntu-- they abandoned US.. traitors.. ha. (kidding sort of).. but I don't want any ubuntrash in or on anything any more.

    As much as I HATE command line stuff---- I just install my flatpak through the command line- and they worked GREAT that way!!!! I couldn't get the button thingy going so well either.. BUT- they have a NEW version just came out.. a couple weeks ago.. Suppose to have those things fixed.

    I've moved from MX Linux. The thing that really swung me was Snapshot. I keep a complete ISO of my system, including Virtual Machines, saved to a bootable USB. There's a peace of mind knowing I can completely recover my system in a one step process.

  • @davidwayne9982
    @davidwayne9982 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I LOVE MX-- and I had KDE as MINE... well, right now Peppermint- but I have MY OWN custom ISO of MX that I can have installed in 5 minutes- pre-configured and ready to go. As I said- is there any way to use snapshot/live usb creator from this ON OTHER distros to make usbs of OTHER distros once I get them set the way I like??

    I use MX Linux 19.4 on one of my laptops. None of my laptops are newer than 10 years old I would say so there are even a couple 32 bit machines I keep active, why not. I never used Peppermint but may give it a go down the road, I won’t use anything based on Ubuntu anymore and enjoy LMDE 5 so Peppermint is a strong possibility now that it is releasing Debian based versions. Great job Tom, thanks for the run throughs!

  • @davidwayne9982
    @davidwayne9982 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You are RIGHT- it's NOT that "newbie" friendly-- I tried it as a newbie and got SO confused.... I let it go- now that I've done this stuff for a while- I LOVE this-- I'm running on Peppermint right now- just reloaded and configured it. I have MX and more--- on a VENTOY-- about 20 total- and can switch back and forth as I like. I wish I could figure out a way to use SNAPSHOT from MX along with the LIVE USB Creator on a USB to serve as tools to make ISOs for OHTER distros--- is there a way to do that??

  • @davidwayne9982
    @davidwayne9982 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    WEll from this and experience on the NEW version of Peppermint-- it's STILL no contest for me-- I'm sticking with my MX-- love this--no matter what i have tried-- including Fedora and all the crap that was suppose to be so good-- this is MUCH MUCH BETTER..

    Peppermint shows the value of LMDE. By the time Peppermint gets a polished Debian version they may lose their easy to use reputation while LMDE is already polished.

      The sun will burn out before they make a usable distro. They took Debian Xfce and made it worse. MX Linux makes Peppermint OS a illegitimate red-headed step child

    I mean after installing them which I didn’t want to do I didn’t want all that extra bloat if I could get what I want out of the repository that came with which I can’t think what it’s called but darn so I never tried those I didn’t realize they were just links to a website

  • @billy_cross5580
    @billy_cross5580 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ricardo locate in on install things swear synaptic package manager here but then you’re looking for is in the repositories it’s really easy to search for it and install it it’s just not immediately obvious how to do that once you know how to do it it’s really easy to use but conversely if you’re trying to get rid of software you don’t want Thankfully they don’t install a bunch of peloton because it is not easy I mean it with every library everything it doesn’t list for high-level software package at least from all separately from what I saw so taking out why do you wanna remove and removing it is difficult easier just go to the command line

  • @davidwayne9982

    I think I'd go flatpak and get UNGOOGLED Chromium (no google crap AT AL) and maybe Brave/Firefox.. It's ok- but I have come to really LOVE my MX-- I have my own ISO of that-- and have used it a few times when playing around wtih other distros caused losses.. :) (Mostly operator problems!! :)
