We've built a bunch of line boring bars over the years. Worst part is broaching the holes, last 1/2" square broach I paid around $700 for. I like to mill two flats on the bars, and broach the holes offset so standard lathe cutters will sit on the center line.
Love to see you set up and review it. I bought one last year but haven’t used it yet. I have a few excavators I bought used that need the buckets touched up and new pins and bushings in the arms
You will make it work I have no doubt. Like to see some heavy cuts and the weld build up. Measuring the bore is interesting too. Grand father bought an old Van Norman boring bar and used it to bore out worn out hinge point on an articulating compactor. We separated the machine and he bored them oversized, Made sleeves and installed new bearings. It worked well and we got paid. The VN boring bar was for engine blocks, It was paid for by that job and made more money after that. I cant remember but I think he welded sleeves in and then honed them out with a rigid hone. He was happy as a clam when the two pin slid right in with a couple taps from a brass hammer. Please make another video using this new Cheena tool.
Curious to see a vevor smaller lathe in action and review from a true professional! Great content as always. Helping us up and comers more than you know!
Wouldn't be difficult at all to throw a bearing block and thrust loaded bearing setup onto a plate infront of the motor. Press a bit of shaft into the screw and use a coupling to join motor and screw. If it is going to see regular use it would be a cheap and quick and easy upgrade. Stuff that you would like to see already in the design, but the compromise on this is a reasonable price point. I don't mind some level of finessing being required when the bulk of the work is there already done
Congratulations on the purchase, I’ve been looking at an other Chinese manufacture of these. I wouldn’t say they are the best but for what you’re paying it’s certainly good bang for ya buck. Beginning of the year I did some commissioning on a $160k aud portable line boring setup, it’s a well known brand yet the issues it had delivered from factory was astounding. Components didn’t fit, hydraulic power pack plc incorrectly programmed to list a few, certainly an eye opener. And makes the china option look valid. You couldn’t knock something up for 4x the price as good. I look at it the when it does crap its self you’ll be ahead then start modifying it. Should be able to replace the servo and planetary with hydraulic motor that would match. And go from there. Yeah the metric bar is a shame. Some things should just as they were originally.
I used a Climax portable milling machine for a job, it was about 24" cross travel & interchangeable track parts, length up to 20', I used about 10', NT50 spindle, It was a new machine, the contractor I worked for rented it, with shipping to & from was around $100K for the use of it. It worked OK, but if I had the $100K to spend I would have preferred to build something, and then have it for other jobs, but that option was not given to me.
@ I’ve heard bits and pieces about the hiring of the porta-mills. 100k… That just confirms it. Outrageous to think they get away with it. Supply and demand… Read they don’t like to sell the porta-mills because they make too much hiring them.
If you want kit-kats without the aftertaste, get kit-kats from Japan, they are slightly less sweet but no aftertaste (I assume they use a different sweetener) also they have a bunch of different flavors
You always find all the nuggets of gold, and also the last nuggets.. It' ain't fair, I'm telling ya it just ain't fair, ya hear me? Just one more of your 'in your face, looky looky what I got and you can't get one' videos and I'm going to unsub. I'll give you another chance. The only redeeming thing you have going for you is the worthless CNC machines you have that you can't sell. That makes us feel better.
I found out they are still available on Amazon, it was just A-Zee lying to me, if I change my shipping address to the lower 48, then the boring rigs appear again.

One can often identify a good crew by the ratio of talking to coordinated action. As a crew matures, few words are needed. Yours seems a mature crew.
Great observation right there, sir !!

I bought a climax setup in 2021, it had a 1 3/4” bar, and the next larger one was 2 1/4” I believe.

Van Norman’s were the best
Love to have one today
@@chauncey5962 I have a VN 777 engine block boring machine.

I bought some automotive tools from Vevor and they were great outstanding quality.
Unpackaging, sorting all of the parts, and disposing of all the packaging material is always a pain.
Thanks for the unboxing video been considering buying one of them Chinese knockoff.

You can buy the square inserts already edm'd out and drill and weld them in a bar. Then you just need tgp bar and a keyway milled.
Cant wait for a video using it.... could you discuss cost of living in Alaska some time
Quality ... Nice To See A Video From ... Thank You Kindly ...
peace
Climax boring bars are 1.25, 1.75 or 2.25 inches. I think they might have metric bars also. Company I work for has 1.25 and 2.25 inch bar setups
Seems like a good deal we made our own boring bars and flange bearings and our mag drill it's the no budget high profit model lol
I wonder, are you contesting for US House from Alaska ?, Alaskan Independence candidate John Wayne Howe looks exactly like you
I was.

Cool find.
Have alot of questions & living in Yukon, ya difficult for products.
I have seen alot of ppl use Italian line bores.
Prices on Aliexpress are starting to go way up on some things. Vevor as well.

line boring within 5 thou would be like putting lipstick on a pig on my jd410
Close enough! 😂
I’ll send $1500. For that !
Where did I get it

Our Climax is hydraulic, and seeing the size and awkwardness of the electric motor, I see why now😂
The old Climax. i used to run was hydraulic also. The York was electric.
Chen na
I call it chena, as a joke, next to Fairbanks 100 years ago, was a town called Chena, named after the central river of Fairbanks, the Chena.
Am i the only one who takes the boring head from the bridgeport and puts it in a mag drill?

@HOWEES so im not the only one. And it looks like you were doing that before i was born
Algorithm booster
Is that to bor out dirt bike engine s ? 🎉
It is designed for construction equipment, e.g. loader arms & such. With a lot of extra work it could do motorcycle cylinders, but not made for that.
We need higher tariff 😊😊😢
Made in cheena 😂
Please, get a pocket knife.
Might be your last box from Cheena, if you keep leaving the chuck key in. #youwerewarned
