    Every song on this album is a masterpiece. By the way, the spaceship guitars are carrying away different cities under domes from an exploding Earth. The spaceship carrying the city of Boston is in the foreground.

    Having a guitarist like Tom Scholz who can create his own effects was their calling card. They were making sounds that we all coveted.

  • @roccaclassico9028
    @roccaclassico9028 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    A masterpiece of guitar arrangement, with that "dueling" guitars effect. BTW, that was Tom Scholz also on the organ solo; he's a classically-trained pianist, and only started playing guitar when he was in college. But, that is nothing compared to his keyboards solo on "Smokin'", which ought to be your next "Boston" reaction. 💯🔥🔥

    If you think Tom Scholz's Hammond B3 solo was hot in Hitch A Ride, wait until you hear that screamin' B3 on Smokin' (the song prior, LP side 2, song 2) -- it's an all-out 5-alarm fire, and once you hear it you'll NEVER forget it.

    Boston is my second favorite band of the era only behind the Eagles for me personally. The voice, Brad Delp, and the genius of Tom Sholz is hard to beat. I put Brad right up there with the other great frontmen of the era like Steve Perry and Freddie Mecury. Definitely underated.

    Like was commented below, the guitar player, Tom Scholz, is an electronics design engineer and inventor who designed his own guitar effects gear. Nobody made effect's pedals that sounded the way he wanted them to so he invented the gear to make the sound he wanted.

    Boston, Grand Funk, James Gang and many more came out of that time period. All guitar heavy and with great front men. This album is great from start to finish. It was so sad that Brad Delp passed. He was a staggering talent and had the voice to match the intensity and power that Thom's guitar work created.
    Wilburn this album never fails in putting a giant smile on my face. I remember being so stunned that there was just one guitarist doing all that was going on. Thanks man for all the work you do to put these classics back in front of old folk and to let the young whipper-snappers know they didn't invent music.

      @@jackarmstrong1838 I know but they had the same flavor. I probably should've put Boston and Aerosmith together but I think of Aerosmith as more of a singer led where the others are more driven by the personalities of the guitarists.

    You got it, bro’. That cover art pretty much sums up what happened in 1976. Boston came out of nowhere, they sounded fantastic, like nothing we ever heard before, the lead vocalist (Brad Delp), the lyrics, the balance of acoustics and electronics - and they pretty much blew the planet apart like it shows on the cover. Boston only released 2 albums in the late ‘70’s, and then an 8-year hiatus ensued. But, man… with with those 2 albums they came, they saw, and they conquered. And they’re still conquering people today. Very rare that all the songs on an album are keepers, Boston did it. Twice.

    Your comment about the organ coming in hot reminded me of Sting talking about using jazz musicians on his first solo album and tour. He basically said that in jazz a soloist is often given 8 or 16 bars to start developing ideas and pathways, and they can run with an idea or jettison it and explore another idea, but he went on to say that for his project they had to burn from the very first note of the very first bar because it was rock.

    Summer of '76, I graduated high school that spring, this album was released late summer, first time I ever heard it was in a bar in Breckenridge, MN, where the drinking age at the time was 18. The bar had a great sound system with tape players as music source. I was sitting in a booth with friends and having a beer, when the bartender put this album on the tape player. I got up from the booth bench, and walked over to directly in front of the two main speakers for the system, and after about 3 minutes of More Than a Feeling, I walked over to the bartender and yelled over the crowd and music noise; "What the hell is this and who the hell is it?!"
    It was a musical life-changer for me, just as earlier moments with bands like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple and The Doors had been.
