For real. Every lake in my area is overfished for panfish. I wish our DNR was more active and placed restricted limits on lakes that need it, or length limits for crappie. Something's gotta change
Yeah the lake I'm crappie fishing at today was great years ago now the keep the smaller fish and release the breeders has gone out the window along with increased pressure and I'm lucky to get 1 or 2...I'll be setting a set line up for pike so I have a chance at something.
Thank you for talking about panfish harvest limits, releasing the larger fish and baro-trauma. These are important topics to educate on and this is a great platform to get the info out there. Take care and tight lines!
lots of take homes on this video! thanks. had great summer success and mixed winter results. i might have better luck now. Keep it up nick! your videos are entertaining and informational with lots of cinematic footage to keep me watching
I own a Deeper and I think it's great! He didn't mention that it has year round use as well! You can cast it out or mount it to your boat in the summer. It has mapping features as well. A great buy for the money!
Great information, (again), along with several different options for certain times of the ice season. Unlike last year, we are at 51* today, and looking to be 54* for Christmas eve, and 50 on Christmas day. Maybe I'll go hit some golf balls....
I’ve had that same dream Jason, hand auger through some dirt and catching fish in the yard where I grew up. I’m in Alaska now, but dreamt it in ND. 😂 Wish we had fleet farm up here.
I fished with a guy that almost shoved me down the ice hole for releasing a 15 3/4 inch crappie at last ice, she was full of eggs. I fished with him recently and he was releasing 8 1/2 or bigger gills. We have to educate each other. Thanks for talking about harvest
we can keep 10 crappie and 20 of all other panfish in minnesota. except white perch and rock bass is 30. I know in some southern states you can keep 30 crappie and a lot more for other panfish.
those "bull fly " lures is similar to the kind i make for flyfishing and other fishin styles that includes a lil maggot or similar fun with Goose Biots in laymans terms in the fly community they come in a variation of tints and i can assure you that everyone can create those (and i buy stuff too ... fun to collect gear . ) Nice shows lots of fun stuff at display ! Best regards Paul Roger - North Sweden
I do like the idea of slot limits on pan fish and support it but I dont think it is a realistic expectation. It would be tough to ask fishermen to throw back the larger fish that aren't very big to begin with and the smaller ones are more bones than meat. We are having a problem up here with one of our lakes, it's easy to catch 100 perch a day but not one will be over 6 inches, so not many are kept when they should all be kept. If people won't keep the small ones when that's all that's being caught they probably won't when there are bigger ones to be had.
Maybe not a slot limit, but reduced bag limits. There's no reason anyone needs to keep 25 bluegills in a day. If they want more than a meal, they should go back the next day and fish again.
i love panfish cuz it the most challenging to find it and and the population going instead of killing the the lake to keeps should be bag limits like 5 or 10 for every lakes in minnesota no matter what lakes it a lake should have bags limits love to fish year round it awesome
I like to watch bobbers. 2 guys, 4 bobbers ,colored hooks or tungstan bead hooks tipped with minnows and boobers. When a fish moves in sometimes all the boobers will move a bit. Early warning system. usally have 1 with a wax worm also.
Minnesota born, 35 years awol, you have no idea how homesick this makes me! Yes, toss them back unharmed. Take your picture, say thank you and bye-bye. Eaters: Even back in the day we could make a large family meal with 6" ~ 8" sunfish. Scale with a spoon, de-head and gut was almost one motion, and fry whole. Pile the bones at the edge of out plates. Tight lines. Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm gonna try that chowder! If I can find some perch that is. Any lakes with a nice jumbo perch population in the north metro area of Anoka County, MN?
surprised there was no mention of Garmin panoptix or livescope. Does Fleet Farm not carry it? BEST electronics on the market for ice fishing, and boat fishing...
new to ice fishing this year, actually new to fishing period lol and I absolutely LOVE my inline. Maybe it's a preference, but I'm having a blast and have way less issues with it than I do the spinner.
@@Tyler-zw4kq I now have 4 inline reels lol, but hell one day I forgot my bag at home, stopped after work to ice fish and realized after setting up the flip over I didn't have any of my rods... But I had line in my car so I tied some to the slush spoon and fished that way lol... I could still feel the bite and caught some fish.
i dont get why you would want to pay 150$ or more for a lite flite when you could get a strikemaster mora for 50$ and get a drill adapter for 15$. save 100$ to maybe get the clam drill plate. i use mine with my kobalt 24v drill and it works great.
They're talking about these dreams they have about fish being in strange places me and the grandson just happened to be in Walmart parking lot Prairie du Chien Wisconsin high waters created water to back up all of their drainage grates he was able to get out there take off his shoes and Chase small Bait fish almost made you feel like opening it up and dropping a line
It's inevitable. Eventually, all fishing will have to be catch and release. The stages are smaller limits until eventually, zero limits. We're on the countdown. Right now fishing is great in America. This won't continue forever. Enjoy now.
Great show! Need to hammer the idea that you shouldn't release fish from deep water. Yeah the fish are there and bite, but you should not fish them if they are too small to keep, move on!
IMO, that's not real ice fishing no more. Technology removes the real fun of finding fish the hard way. Beside not everyone would be able to have all those gadgets. I don't see the point of spending thousands of dollars to fish a few months of the year. Nevertheless your video is informative which I believe it was your main objective. Peace out ✌

Great work Nick. Fantastic production. Tons of info and love to see someone talking about protecting the resource.
Great video. Loved the issue of over harvest of panfish as I have seen the results in local lakes.
