    Are you sure the plates are metal? I just picked one up and I could have sworn the plates were polymer on this gun too. Great video either way.

      They work just fine. I’ve had no problems with the RMR moving at all. The Masada also came with polymer plates and not problems there either. I would certainly not let this keep you from looking at this fine pistol. Cheers!

    I don’t think the FN is that much taller than G19. The taller sights may have made it seem so when laid upside down

    I have been a Glock fan since the early 90s, but the FN 509 T and the 509 Midsize are my favorite striker fired guns (especially the midsize). I am looking forward to getting the MRD and adding a Trijicon RMR.

    • @MDpolo

    I carried Glock for my entire law enforcement career, so I have a bunch of them and they are ok. But since I retired, I bought a bunch of HK’s and now some FN 509’s. I did swap the strikers on all 3 of my 509’s to the Apex, just in case. But don’t mind the price point considering what you get. I understand why you compare it to the G19, because this video is for a broad audience and most people know what a G19 looks and feels like.
    I had the MRD and sold it. Nothing wrong with it. But I have the tactical, the compact tactical and the full size LE version. The grip angle and pointability are excellent and they are really nice guns. Some complain about “gritty trigger”, which it does have when you first get it and dry fire (which FN recommends you not do). But after about 300-500 rounds of live fire, that trigger smooths right out. It’s a combat style trigger in the sense that it’s not designed to be super light, but rather a defined wall and an audible reset. Both help out quite a bit. I do love my HK P30’s, but I’m loving the 509 lineup.

    I own three FN509s this will be my fourth. No issues with striker and don’t plan on swimming with it 😂 😂 😂. It’s an awesome firearm. Every firearm as a limit to some point even Glock. I own six Glocks & soon 7 FNs. My preference outta the box hands down FN. Six of my FNs are the same today as it came outta of the box. I did customize my FN509 Tactical as I wanted one customized gun. Love FNH products especially there ambidextrous features as a lefty.

    • @MDpolo

      Hello Brian. I completely agree with your statement that every firearm has a limit. As I mentioned (and showed) in the video, I own the 509 Tactical and really, really like it. I have an RMR type 2 mounted on it and it is awesome. Best micro red dot mounting system available and mine has been 100% reliable. I’d love to see a pic of your customized 509T. I agree with you, I own 3 F&N’s and they shoot great. You get a lifetime warranty with each pistol so they stand behind the firearms. I like to break my pistols in fairly quickly with the 1st thousand rounds. I figure if something happens to the pistol, odds are the problem will so up rather quickly.👍

    Yes i love the 509 but i shoot glocks a bit better. I dont think the striker issue is as big as people made it out to be. I enjoy my regular 509 the most and my 509 tactical is cool i would like a 509 midsize maybe the mrd version since my glock 19 is my most carried gun it could work in the same role as that gun i think the best is the 509 fn is a pretty decent company

    Buy the Apex Tactical FN509 striker. Problem solved. Btw not all the strikers are weak. Mine is still good.

    • @MDpolo
      @MDpolo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As far as the striker, similar issue to the Sig P365 striker problem. Some were weak and some were good. The cause of the breaking may be different, but the end result is the same. So I agree with you that not all strikers were weak. However, why buy a pistol that ‘may’ have a problem and you need to spend $$ to replace a key component when you have many equal or better pistols in the market that have so far been w/o issues. Thank you very much for watching and for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it.

      Trying to pick a first handgun is overwhelming. YT has the bias of Glock, but when holding all the guns, they're about the same. I'm not swimming with it, and hopefully only need it at the range.

    I for one prefer FN's hinged trigger. I don't do Gluck but I find my CZ P10C's trigger to pinch. It's odd position, old revolver service style grooves take away from what is in other ways a light trigger. FN's wide smooth trigger is like shooting a old Smith k frame target revolver and helps me for one. Nice to see FN makes running improvements. Gluck makes improvements when?............ Oh yeah back in 1986. Thoughts on its reliability? No offense to you as a youtuber but.....the gauntlet tests and treatment youtubers give firearms is only....suspicious. Do all these tacticool idiots have tens of thousands of daddy's $ to treat their purchases so poorly? Or are they actually paid by the brands competition and their distributors to throw out "false data" to make a specific brand shine? TH-camrs who treat firearms like they do really shouldn't even have possession of firearms. Careless and reckless. 4 years in the USCG. 25 years as a cop in a Gulf Coast beach community. Patrolling on jet ski, boat, atv, mountain bike and on foot Never did the occasion of firing my sidearm after subversion come into play. Will this "test" of a possibly "fake news" gauntlet test determine my purchase? F no! Oh all those years in a salty environment? My P226 never got a spot of rust. But I saw dozens of rusty Glucks with plastic rear sights that had broken corners.

      Like @sootch00 likes to say, “we live in the golden age of firearms.” And he is right. We can find a gun to fit everyone’s needs. I own only 2 Glocks and many, many other manufacturers. I’m just not a fan of the FN trigger - although, the wider & flatter trigger shoe on the new 509 MRD feels much better to me than the previous 509 triggers. As far as the gauntlet tests - I totally agree with you. The channels that perform them tell you upfront that it is for entertainment purposes only and should not influence your gun buying decision. Hoever, we all know that many viewers do take those tests as their buying bible. I can see someone dropping their gun in water and then having to use it. But, all 4 elements of the gauntlet at the same time? Please… Just a show. Thank you for all your service to your communities an to our country in the USCG. And by the way, one of my all-time favorite guns is my Sig P226 Legion SAO… Cheers!
