    My 10’x14’ shed is just over halfway complete and it has cost $7000 thus far. By the time I’m finished, with the LP siding, 30 year shingle roof, $1000 for two 30 year guaranteed Milgard windows all dressed in black, hardwood floors, a portable cubic mini grizzly wood burning stove and interior cladding for the walls with rock wool insulation, it should come to just under $9000, and it’s totally portable with temporary electrical via a built in 20 amp extension cord.

      @ 100 years ago here in the Pacific Northwest logging companies would move employees into the woods via their trains. On many of the flatbed rail, cars were tiny sheds built on skids, being that they had what was the equivalent of skis underneath them, they could be slid around fromworksite to work site with ease. This was the impetus for my design, and my inspiration. I can basically move the tiny shed anywhere in the United States and live wherever I please, and then I can build a new house while living out of the shed.

      @@justindeclemente1130 thanks for the clarification. "Portable shelter is now defined as a structure that is...to provide shelter and is readily collapsible, folds, or disassembles for transport. • Portable shelters, like the canvas/nylon collapsible and sled-style shelters, do not need to be
      licensed when they are occupied/attended. • Shelters that do not meet the definition of a portable shelter, such as camper-type shelters, need to be licensed." I'll build one of these portable shelters so I can avoid the county guvmint goons. thanks

    I am firmly in the anti-loft camp. First thing that pops into my mind = what if i hurt my ankle/knee or even break a wrist or arm? That loft is only practically when you are in nearly perfect health and while you are young. As soon as any sort of health concern crops up you couldn't stay there and then you have a large waste of space in the home/cabin... And that doesn't even begin to talk about how that ladder is clearly in your way to use that little kitchen area as you demonstrated

    • @Agameda1
      @Agameda1 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It looks like the ladder is on a rail, so it can be moved out of the way

    • @LB_adventurer
      @LB_adventurer หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@Agameda1 you mean moved to one side so that it's still in the way then when you turn around you have to slide it back the other direction... That's not convenient that's just annoying. Better solution are the places where you can take the ladder and hang it on a wall rack. But even that doesn't solve all the other problems of not being able to crawl up and down the ladder if you have any health related problems or even if you just have an upset stomach and you need to run back and forth o the bathroom several times in a night. The place is cute but bedroom lofts are inherently problematic for anything more than a short term stay

    • @MusicEchos
      @MusicEchos หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      I live in a camper. I am a witness to that problem. It's a pain making bed! One other problem too!!! The mattress crawls off end end of side. What a pain!, Don't buy one! What about if something breaks? On campers you have to take them in.

    This is absolutely perfect for a 1 or 2 night stay or for a get away cabin in the woods. Not liking the width (10') or the loft height/ladder situation. The website has a better/bigger model available (the Duo). Price seems kinda high and then you have to add in all the lot prep/permits/hook-ups and delivery which might be a deal breaker.

      I agree. Seeing more tiny homes edging towards the $160K range in the US, which is absurd. And this doesn't include land & utility installs. Unfortunately, many TH marketers keep telling potential home buyers that affordable housing no longer exists. This is not true. Other than re major urban-city housing, you can find $160K or less homes in many markets. You'll probably have to do some repairs & updates, but much of that can usually be accomplished while you're living in the home.

      The issue currently is the prefabs are trying to follow the Tesla model. The ones that are selling at lower cost run into the issue that the biggest cost is connecting utilities, it can cost more to install water/sewer/power than you paid for the unit at the lower end.

There is the Springs that costs money but there is also free natural hot springs in Lowman. Sometimes, that drive to Lowman is closed due to avalanche warnings. That drive on Hwy 21 is absolutely amazing. It goes from Boise to Stanley and then forks off to either Sun Valley or Montana. Idaho City used to be a town with 20,000 people during the gold mine rush. Trudy's Restaurant is the closest restaurant. Gold Mine inn is supposed to be good but I have not eaten there. And then there is Clear Creek Lodge that is new but I have not been there either. It is supposed to have good food as well as the HillTop near Luck Peak Reservoir. Stanley has more hot springs and scenic mountains.

      Everyone should keep in mind that”real costs”! To build a bathroom is around $5,000, a kitchen with appliances, $10,000, insulation, $2,000, metal cladding, $4,000, windows and doors, $6,000, electrical, $2,000, heating system, $2,500, framing and foundation, $6-8,000, vapor barrier, taping, $800, soffit wood, $800, flooring, $2,500 throughout, water, sewer to lot, $10,000 (depending on CAD or USA) kitchen, bathroom plumbing hookup and drain, $1,500. Misc. As in decking, outside fire pit, chairs, etc, say with extra, $3,000. This doesn’t include permitting, parking, or profit. Those prices would be if you personally hired trades to do the work. Hire a contractor and he/she will want likely $10,000 (2 months work to complete) In short, the cost isn’t like importing a container home from China for $35K USD and then building a pad or foundation, servicing it. It’s starting from scratch onshore. It’s more expensive than people think.

    What about the foundation? Does it need a concrete slab? I fancy putting this next to my house as a combination gym/bathroom/ laundry but would it be cheaper than a conventional build?

    People talking about the price. Your expensive rooms in any house are kitchen and bathrooms. Bedrooms are cheap to build. So a 15k kitchen in a 2500 foot house verses a 10k kitchen in a 300 foot house. It’s relative. Space is cheap to build as bedrooms . Appliances/plumbing/fixtures/electrical are where your expenses are!

Also, a little more explanation of how the motorized glass works. What are the shipping costs? Anyway, very nice presentation if a bit longer than it needed to be.

    The loft would be the only major issue for me as I'm a big guy (6'2) and so I don't think I could sleep comfortably with the roof so close. If the roof were a foot higher then we would be in business. A larger fridge/freezer would also be a must.

    Kerry, I am not going to lie, I was fully prepared to hate it, but that would have been a hasty decision. I like it, again it is all about taking disparate pieces and making them come together as a cohesive whole, and they did that beautifully. I know the instant this unit snaked me in the head and said, hold on now, we know what we are doing. When you got up close and personal with the entrance and how the front facade was designed meticulously, I was all in. Kerry, yes the unit is small but it is very functional, and doesn't end up feeling cheap, but precise. Kerry, you have another clear winner to add to your trophy case. Merry Christmas Kerry.

    I appreciate the video and I’m gonna tease you here. You weren’t ready with wood for the fire pit, didn’t think about bringing hot chocolate, and just wanted to get there. Ok. But I had to giggle because you also forgot to wear winter boots. The running shoes going into a perceived blizzard was funny. You’re lucky it wasn’t icy. Lol as a Canadian, I have to giggle at that. We all tried that when we were in high school!
    Yeah, the loft seemed really nice. It didn’t seem as claustrophobic as some. But I’m shocked that they didn’t have higher railings on the ledge of that loft. I could easily go off that. I sleepwalk, or I get startled and jump out of bed, or just plain forget where I am. Half asleep I would think I’m at home getting up in the middle of the night trying to get to the bathroom. That is dangerous. I also think it’s nice. Basic. But ridiculously expensive.
    Merry Christmas !

    I’m not sure I could stay there longer that a weekend. The side wall window is in the wrong place. It should be right where the desk is located, to look outside as you work. Or put a window horizontally about 9’ high and a 10’ X 4’ with the same obfuscating feature. To live in a place like this. It would need to be about 6’ wider for storage space.
