The Montreal Sun also went with the “Captain Crunch” line when Tavares got injured in the playoffs. No one in Canada takes any of the Sun papers serious. They’re considered trash here in Toronto.
The Sun only called him a no-name goalie, because it sounds more like a dunk on the Leafs. If you think this is disrespectful, you should say what they say about the Leafs, the headline after Tavares' big injury was a particular lowpoint. This isn't a "big" company paper, its a trash tabloid that no Leafs fan takes seriously.
Leafs fan here. We sat 3rd row with no one in front of us starting with Dostal. While we were cheering for the Leafs, we could not help but clap for every saves Dostal made. He has Jedi senses.
It feels like Dostal has been around for a while now. tbh I didn’t even realize he was still counted as a rookie considering he’s been playing for like what, 2-3 years now? So calling him a “no name goalie” feels so off, come on Toronto Sun, this is what gives us leafs fans a bad rap.
I think it's because he's considered a no name compared to Vasy, Igor, Ilya, Quick, etc. I've been watching hockey for 35+ years and I'd never heard of him until last night
Good point about how Leafs fans and media would be hyping over Dostal if he was a Leaf. They would love a goalie like hin right now. This feels kind of like big market arrogance, how a bigger market doesnt appreciate ot acknowledge talent on smaller market teams.
This was a take from a shitty Toronto newspaper not the fanbase.. It looked like all Leafs twitter last night was giving Dostal his props for an excellent game..
The sun would be hyping Dostal, if they could phrase it in a way to make the Leafs look bad. No big market arrogance just one trash tabloid that Leafs and fans hate. The bulk of the replies on the Anaheim post were from Leafs fans telling them the Sun is always straight garbage.
Exactly. I play fantasy hockey and all I saw were good comments last night all over Dostals page praising his performance coming from Leaf fans. The paper doesn't represent the fan base. They are simply media looking for views and discussion. Leaf fans, real fans, can absolutely respect Dostals performance as next level. He is the only real reason the game wasn't a massacre last night. Rock solid.
Just to clarify what I meant - I wasn't saying that the Leafs fan base is looking down or not appreciating talent such as Dostal's. I was indicating how certain entities in a big market (some media and the Toronto Sun in question) will look down upon smaller markets. I know most hockey fans in general appreciate and understand talent in the game.
As a Leafs fan I can confirm the Toronto Sun is hot garbage and only exists to incite outrage and generate clicks. Put some respect on Dostal’s name, he played like an absolute stud last night.
Hello Mr Johnny Hawkey sir! Can you talk about that intermission conversation between Jen and Jamaal/Sam that you very quickly pointed out at the beginning of this video?? (I hope thats because its already in the works as I write this 😜) Thanks in advance either way from this Jets fan if you see this and take it into consideration... I thought they really disrespected Jen in their disagreement/debate, and they were clearly in the wrong, and were clearly uninformed about the history of this rivalry brewing, acting like it stats with the Kaprizov injury this season... ANYthing a wild fan can groan about, a Jets fan can and will rightly point out two things done that were worse... Before and after whatever they moan about... It's a joke. Sam and Jamal were both saying they had no problem with the high stick to the face of Perfetti/any Jet really done intentionally, they only differed on the fact Sam believes it shouldn't have been Perfetti, and he should have chosen a higher profile target, like *EHLERS* 😂😂 just proves they know nothing about how hartman dealt with the DoPS the 8th of the TEN times so far hes done so... Like, it's the stupid double standard logic they wouldn't apply to themselves and their own team/fav team if it happens to them... Jamaal even referred to the Kaprizov injury as hurting "his guy/our guy" or whatever...he was/is so truly invested in his biased position that he wouldn't budge regardless, and let the double standard take hold because of his bias... And calling Jen "soft" or whatever for not agreeing with his stupidity and double standards is honestly so ironic of Jamall... As Jen had to point out to Jamal... There's a difference between hard playoff style hockey, rivalry hockey... And then just dirty ass intentional retribution to a guy who did absolutely nothing wrong as well mind you... They both want to act like this is justified, except using the very same logic Jamal and Sam are trying to use to call Jen soft if you aren't ok with Hartman intentionally wacking Perfetti in the face, it literally would mean they are the softest of ANYBODY if they aren't okay with a couple cross.checks in the kidneys to Kaprizov for what Hartman did to Ehlers. Full stop, it proves they're either EXTREMELY ignorant on how and when this rivalry started recently, or just plan hypocrites...
Meh it's the Toronto Sun which is basically a tabloid rag. I don't think anyone takes that newspaper seriously anymore. The Sun should NEVER be equated as linked to the Leafs....ever. It seemed like this video was implying the Leafs were disprespecting Dostal which is not the case. Keep local media and the team seperate please.
@@jeffreycairns767Here’s a fun fact for you to show you how bad the refs are for the Ducks. The Ducks have almost 120 minutes in penalty differential. 2 games. We have been short handed 120 more minutes than we have been on the power play. Second closest team to that is 46. 46 minute differential. The Ducks are not complaining about the calls going against them at all. They are complaining about the missed calls. McTavish getting his helmet taken off twice, no call, then Jones gets the lightest tap “slashing” penalty directly after. It’s a joke, clear bias, and it’s insanity. Plus Matthew’s with the puck in OT, no call, and he scores right after.
@The__Lyric Matthews with the puck in OT? Was that suppose to be an automatic penalty? Instead of calling bias, hoe about the Ducks stop taking clear penalties? There were soft calls all night on both sides. To claim the refs are biased against the Ducks in every game, when it's not the same refs every game, is a bit much. I didn't see a Duck get thrown out of the game over a 2 minute penalty.
@@jeffreycairns767 The Ducks have not had a single game this season where they’ve had more power plays than their opponents. Also yeah. Watch OT again. Matthew’s hauls down Henrique in the corner away from the play and he can’t get back up in time. Watch the games brother. I’m not making up stats here.
@The__Lyric I just watched it again. Matthews hit the Duck and he went down easy, basically flopped. That's not on Matthews. Come up with a better excuse then just the refs for the pathetic results of the team. I could understand a game here or there or the playoffs but not every game.
I think the disrespect is actually against the Leafs. They almost lost to someone they consider a "no-name goalie". That says a lot more about their play to me than it does about Dostal. Reminds me of the playoffs in 2022. First round the Rangers face the Penguins. The Penguins are having goalie issues, and they end up having a third round goalie as their starter for the series. Louis Domingue had some NHL experience, but had more minor league experience, and played a combined 20 games since the 2019-2020 season. Someone I know laughed about him being the "pretzel boy". Dude took the Rangers to Game 7, which the Rangers only managed to win in overtime. "Pretzel boy" almost took the Penguins to round 2! Then, for the 2022-2023 season, he was signed by the Rangers. I really laid into the person who laughed at him calling him "Pretzel Boy"! (He even played a game this year for the Rangers, and won, only letting in 1 goal on 26 shots!)
If that's true, it's not enough to call it big market arrogance: it's big market solipsism. "The only thing that matters is our perception of the rest of the league and ourselves in relation." 🙄
Albeit, it was disrespectful of the Toronto Sun paper, but not NEARLY as disrespectful as that shown by his own teammates who didn't even skate to his net to thank him for his magical performance.
Why can't the Leafs at least TRY to distance themselves away from the Sun? It's obvious that the rag uses the team as clickbait as opposed to being an outlet for the team's status and/or critical insight. This same team can't accommodate Joe Bowen but can give the mic to Steve Simmons?
i live in toronto all my feeds are toronto based, im a huge leafs fan. i didnt even see that headline, everything i saw was about dostal. jeez leaf haters cherry picking. ugh
So it's okay for other cities/teams to disrespect the Leafs/Toronto but when Toronto does it to them its somehow wrong? Give me a break! People have been disrespecting the Leafs for decades so I say GET OVER IT SOFTIES!
After that game the Ducks Twitter feed was filled with Leafs fans giving props to Dostal for that effort. The comments on that Toronto Sun Tweet had a lot of Leafs fans telling the Sun to give their heads a shake. That dude earned our respect.
yes it was disrespectful, and it was likely very intentional. the TO sun is basically a tabloid, it’s all click bait trash. Dostal played amazing, wishing him success in the league
I'm sure nobody is listening to the Toronto Sun for hockey info or anything for that matter...including politics...Considering the Toronto Sun is Canada's equivalent to the National Enquirer...lol
Anaheim owed it Dostal to win that game, after playing that well, but the team in front of him was flat, despite making 49 saves before the first goal.
@dylanmethven3845 It was luck that they won. When you put 55 shots on and only 1 goes in? That's puck luck that they managed the second goal. The Ducks scored the same number of goals in far less shots. The Ducks had the better odds in that case.
I'm from Toronto. I'm a Leafs fan, and rest assured. We know who LUKAS DOSTAL is. Don't let a stupid paper steal Dostal's shine. I'm following Dostal's career now. He's one to watch, and you're lucky to have him! 55 saves? That's insane!!! Hats off to Lukas!
If Dostal WAS a no-name goalie, he sure-as-f**k ain't one now. I'm also a Leafs fan but gave Dostal a standing O for that performance. The Leafs top four had over 30 shots and not longshot chances; they were prime chances and Dostal kept the Ducks in it to the end when they really shouldn't have had any business being there. What a performance. All hail Dostal!! For the record, as good as Dostal was last night, the Toronto sun has been completely the opposite their whole publishing life. When are they going out of business btw. They're as bad as fox news but without the integrity. LOL Ya, I'm totally kidding about the fox news integrity part. They're a joke too.
this is even funnier and more disrespectful considering the Leafs were actually blanked by some part-time ice resurfacer operator/pretend head coach of the sham Vermillion County Bobcats, and everybody in Toronto couldn't forget his name. being the backup for the Mighty Ducks appears to be a full rung below whatever that was.
The Toronto Sun being the worst, has been effect of life since my childhood, Dostal was so good that had we lost Anaheim I would’ve said they deserve to win.
Speaking as somebody who has been writing for a multitude of newspapers, alt-news weeklies, monthly mags, bi-monthlies and quarterlies (as well as for TorStar -- Sun Media's direct competition -- although I did arts and music, not sports) for the last twenty years, I'd take anything The Sun runs with a grain of salt. That paper's greatest draw for a long time was the Sunshine Girl -- I guess upsetting people and being tedious is how they're making ends meet these days.
This gets overlooked sometimes, but when free agents think about signing with Toronto, shit like the media reminds them to stay the fuck away. Steve Simmons and the Toronto Sun are a different level of special. Go ask Phil Kessel about it for starters.
It's not right that a team gets a penalty for doing something that every player does, finishing a check, just because the opposing player puts himself into a bad position. That was on the Ducks player foe putting himself in a bad position for a check. I can kinda understand a call, as it was a little late, but boarding or being kicked out of the game is complete bs

The Toronto media is weird with goalies. For whatever reason, they are strange when it comes to the tenders.
The headline makes sense. Everyone is a noname unless they're with the leafs according to toronto media
The thing that will never make sense to me is you have nothing to gain by downplaying the opponent. People do it in everything sports or even video games, saying someone is a no name player or even saying they are a nobody or they suck in a game where you were struggling to get back into it just makes you look worse. Say it like it is the guy did amazing and was holding the team on his back but it still wasn't enough to stop you. That way you bolster your success and make yourself sound like a better team. Does it surprise me that this doesn't make sense to them though? No, shitty reporting is easier
I’m a Leafs fan and I despise the Toronto Sun. Absolute joke of a headline. Leafs media sucks but the Sun is special.
No review of the Canes win over the Leafs?
Any leaf fan who watched that game had nothing but praise for the game the young goaltender played. He was amazing! The Toronto Sun needs a new headline about how *they* will do better,
To be real though unless you’re an Anaheim fan you’d have no idea that Dostal even existed.
unless you follow the NHL and not just your team...
@@tomblade I bet I spend more time reading and watching the NHL every year than you will in your lifetime. Are you saying you know who Dostal is? You’re lying if you say you do.
@@rungoodmuch if you're following the league as much as you say there's NO WAY you haven't heard of him at least once! No way!! He even was the rookie of the month in October! Looks like you're not as big of a fan as you think...
@@tomblade I never said I don’t know who Dostal is. I said that most likely only fans from Anaheim would know who he is so it’s not unreasonable to call him a no name when he’s played under 50 games in the NHL.
"No Name Goalie"..... Unlike Toronto's memorable goalies.... Samsonov,Raycroft and Toskala.
Hey Samsonov is a historic goalie. Historically bad, but still historic
And Toskala gave up a historically bad goal.
And the Toronto Sun played an integral part in running those goalies out of town after shitting on them too.
@@stephentruman382 …..was that the Islanders one? I remember that like yesterday lol
The sports media in Canada needs an overhaul, they continue to focus on negatives and create a large disconnection to many fans. Thank you for continued quality videos and willingness to bring attention to this. Keep your stick on the ice.
The first part of your comment could very well be a great desciption of our PM.
Austin Mathews saves the day that says it all. WOW whoever wrote that article probably didn’t watch the game.
It was meant as an insult towards the Leafs.
Agreed. Even if he was a "no name goalie" he isn't now. What an amazing goalie. Wish he was a leaf. And screw the Sun for saying that. I read that article too and i was offended. The kid played amazing and he deserves respect. I hope he didnt let some low class news paper make him feel bad.
Sounds like the Toronto Sun are still bitter about losing to a zamboni driver
Not bitter enough or they wouldn't think this was a good idea because I'm pretty sure that's all they'll be hearing for a bit
The Sun hates the Leafs more then the haters do. Do your research before running your mouth. Most of you are clueless
The Montreal Sun also went with the “Captain Crunch” line when Tavares got injured in the playoffs. No one in Canada takes any of the Sun papers serious. They’re considered trash here in Toronto.
It’s the Toronto Sun. Nobody likes them. Are you new here?
The Sun only called him a no-name goalie, because it sounds more like a dunk on the Leafs. If you think this is disrespectful, you should say what they say about the Leafs, the headline after Tavares' big injury was a particular lowpoint. This isn't a "big" company paper, its a trash tabloid that no Leafs fan takes seriously.
Amen! Complete and utter trash.
No name Goalie is INSANE. Bro wth
He had 1 good game
@@jeffreycairns767 he got rookie of the month to start the season and was good for his time last year too.
I'm a leaf fan and I was hyping him up last night 💀
Toronto Sun only wrote that headline so ppl would flip out and click on their crappy content. Congrats they got ya!
(I hope thats because its already in the works as I write this 😜)
Thanks in advance either way from this Jets fan if you see this and take it into consideration...
So in other news Toronto only cares about "Toronto stuff" and only keep taps on "Toronto stuff"
Shocking, I know
Meh it's the Toronto Sun which is basically a tabloid rag. I don't think anyone takes that newspaper seriously anymore. The Sun should NEVER be equated as linked to the Leafs....ever. It seemed like this video was implying the Leafs were disprespecting Dostal which is not the case. Keep local media and the team seperate please.
the ducks announcers were honestly right for complaining about the non calls by the refs and it’s been happening all year
I can't speak on behalf of other games the Ducks have played in but for this one, the refs were bad on both sides.
Who was beat by a no name Zamboni driver several years back?
Still no class calling him a no name.
@@emperoralvis6559 absolutely agree
So you agree with the article?! Lol, what?! That’s garbage
@@OCRay1 Not with the article, but with the comment.
Dumb headline from the Sun; completely agree with the Ducks tweet.
i live in toronto all my feeds are toronto based, im a huge leafs fan. i didnt even see that headline, everything i saw was about dostal. jeez leaf haters cherry picking. ugh
Yup
Hot take: most of the leaf hate around the league is because of Toronto media.
I'd say it's more the fans but you aren't completely wrong
Thank you. The Ducks are used to lack of respect, but the Toronto Sun was a bit over the top with it.
As a toronto citizen, I can confirm I do not claim the Toronto Sun as our own.
Shocking. Toronto sports media being disrespectful, who would've thought lol
I'm sure nobody is listening to the Toronto Sun for hockey info or anything for that matter...including politics...Considering the Toronto Sun is Canada's equivalent to the National Enquirer...lol
Toronto Sun is a tabloid. Not a newspaper. They achieved their goal to have eyeballs.
Jennifer Botteril lecturing former tough , actual hockey players on what’s needed to sell the game
Dostal was stellar. As a leaf fan im shocked we won this it was pure luck
Luck when you get 55 shots and win while your opponent gets 1 goal.
yeah not pure luck, dostal was great but 55 shots is not "luck". dostal was great, leafs were better
Dostal is the best no name goalie then, ever !...LoL
Anaheim owed it Dostal to win that game, after playing that well, but the team in front of him was flat, despite making 49 saves before the first goal.
@dylanmethven3845 It was luck that they won. When you put 55 shots on and only 1 goes in? That's puck luck that they managed the second goal. The Ducks scored the same number of goals in far less shots. The Ducks had the better odds in that case.
Dude you always keep it super G. You tell it like it is you know hockey like no other respect!
Headline obviously worked. People are talking about it and the article is getting clicks. The sun has always done this
The Sun is basically a supermarket tabloid...
Dostal should wear one of those Canadian Superstore yellow shirts with the word "GOALIE" on it to troll the Sun
Can't blame the leafs or us fans for the idiots in the media. To be fair, we hate them more than our haters do.
LOL
Ya, I'm totally kidding about the fox news integrity part. They're a joke too.
Dostal isn't a no-name goalie he is young and has a lot of potential.
He’s a rookie that the league should start to fear. We might have another Patrick Roy or Martin Brodeur on our hands.
You would have more luck asking the actual Sun to stop shining than to expect the SUN newspaper to do better.
Did u see the Sun response to the Ducks tweet? Something like "Anaheim Ducks noisily quack about 'no-name goalie' jab in Toronto Sun headline"
by the title, i thought you would be referring to the Ducks not going out to greet their record setting goalie at the end of the game
A tip of my hat to Dostal. I would not have even been mad if we lost the entire game He was so good! Glad he got 1 point for the Ducks.
It wasn't just the Toronto Sun. Not one ducks player went over to Dostal at the end of the game and showed any gratitude. Soulless.
"why are you booing im right" - the toronto sun prob
this is even funnier and more disrespectful considering the Leafs were actually blanked by some part-time ice resurfacer operator/pretend head coach of the sham Vermillion County Bobcats, and everybody in Toronto couldn't forget his name. being the backup for the Mighty Ducks appears to be a full rung below whatever that was.
The Toronto Sun being the worst, has been effect of life since my childhood, Dostal was so good that had we lost Anaheim I would’ve said they deserve to win.
Honestly, Lance Hornby and the Sun are the worst sports media in business hands down. Not surprised
What's disrespectful is getting a penalty for that hit.
As a Ducks fan, I’m disappointed in our Twitter account. Could’ve roasted them with a stellar tweet like: “No name newspaper salty that Leafs only scored two on stellar rookie goaltender Lukas Dostal.”
That would be stooping to their level. I appreciate the mature response from the Ducks.
Except the Sun is well known and it was, technically, a no name goalie.
Never heard of them. Also, Dostal isn’t brand new, not like he’s some EBUG. The Sun is either being lazy or arrogant…
Wow! Not a Leafs fan but did start to sympathize with their plight a few years ago.
Now when people ask, why do you hate the Leafs
Asking the Toronto Sun to be better is like asking a fish to walk on land. They just aren't capable of it.
