It's mind-bending how inspired and incredible Silent Hill was as a series. Team Silent and Akira Yamaoka created real art; there are few games that transcended to this level.
im in awe of how extremaly prolific yamaoka is. I listened to SH osts before playing the games and always wondered in what context these tracks would appear - only to find out that tracks i expected to regularly come back as leitmotifs actually appear like only once in the entire game in their own little special moment. on top of that, there's WAY more trax in the game than on the official soundtracks, dozens of little atmospheres that appear once in the game but if they were included on the ost CD, it would turn out to be 3x times as long - and yet none of all that is throwaway filler material, literally the whole soundtrack is top fucking quality.
Bro, you're extremely right lol. I was listening to SH ost for the whole one year before actually playing games, and my mind has made his own sense of every track. But also in the games they appear very appropriate. Every song has it's own place and role. The scene where James losts Maria in the elevator, and then just sit on the floor in absolute despair and emptiness, while the "Magdalene" playing - literally stuck in my mind forever. Also it's a shame that official soundtrack don't consists some great tracks such as "Wishful Thinking" or the longer and cleaner (without that annoying noises) version of "Black Fairy" as an example.
That's what I'm doing AHAHAH Really nice track and now I'm curious to try the game. Do you suggest to start from the first one or I can jump directly to 2?
A major part of this series is the influence of American TV shows like Twin Peaks and American authors like Stephen King, and I'm sure other countries besides America probably, because they also mentioned names like Hans Bellmer and that sounds European (but as an American I'm not legally obliged to acknowledge anyone else exists :P ). I consider the Silent Hill series (well...some of them) a masterwork that is a perfect synergy of Eastern and Western themes, genres, and ideas.
Life has not been tough, I have a family that I love but things are not great most of the time, I am not really healthy, I am not very social outside my long time friend group which I'm blessed to have, but sometimes I can't help it but be sad. This song helps me bring it all out.
You're allowed to feel bad when everyone else tells you to shut up and be grateful. We're all fortunate and unfortunate in different ways. Feel sad, as sad as you need to.
At least you have a friend *group*. I just have my best friend of 16 years - who's 800 km away. We're still in contact and play games daily but we haven't seen face to face in 6 years and it sucks. I live in another country where I can barely speak the language (it was not my choice to move here), so making friends here is a no-go. My family only wants me to extract as much money as possible and nothing else. My health is in shambles. Life constantly tries to fuck me over daily. My life is a constant cycle of go to work, come home, sit at the PC, sleep, repeat. Only sometimes (due to lack of time) do I go on hikes or walks, and even then, alone. Nobody to accompany me. I suffer from several untreated disorders including social anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder. Untreated because I cannot be bothered, no motivation, don't want to trick my brain into thinking I don't hate it here with various pills. Whenever I dare to have a sad / frustrated look on my face I get told to 'cheer up' or get asked 'why are you like this? you have nothing to be mad about, nothing to be stressed about'. As if I'm not 20 years old and at the stage where you stress out about your future and what to do with your life. I'm only here still because otherwise I wouldn't be able to listen to Yamaoka's music otherwise. Only reason why I haven't downed the bottle of sleeping pills on my desk. Apart from this, and my pet cat - I have nothing to live for. When my cat eventually passes, I might do so as well. I wouldn't be able to deal with the grief.
There is a guy on youTube called "Survival Spheres". He makes alternative music which sounds very close to Yamaoka's tracks. Check him out if you like this type of music
@@kirilltroiak5241 just checked him out, he has some really peaceful ambient tracks :) i also just made a sh2 inspired beat a couple days ago if ur interested ^-^

You really should give the series a try. The music and the game go hand in hand together. It's a work of genius how well all the tracks fit together with the surroundings.
