this was my first time travelling back to sydney in two (2!) years - for obvious reasons lol
my experience flying on qantas flight QF2 in economy in january of 2022.

I think this flight is just incredible... 16.5-17 hours on one plane, and you wake up in Australia... like other side of the world. Aviation has come a long way!

I've barely travelled and recently had the urge. Sydney is #1 on my list, but yet would be the furthest distance I could travel from the UK. This is hyping me up even more for graduating university :D

I am planning to take this flight in July in economy class. A bit nervous taking it in economy class (20 hrs+) but this video will definitely help in the prep work :-)

I did the Qantas 17 hour DFW-SYD a few years ago in economy. It was only $60 US to book an exit row. No window but plenty of legroom and almost the entire flight is over the Pacific so nothing to see, anyay. Get up and walk the aisles as much as you can. FA's came around every hour with water.

100% agree with trying to board last. Why would you want to be stuck on the plane for even more time.
well i personally like being on the plane, i just don't like shuffling down the aisle behind 60 other people and their bags 😅
I just did it but with Singapore airlines whilst very good I do love Qantas the crews are always easy on the passengers and that long flight to Darwin and then on to syd is the way forward and I’ll do that next time . Been many different routes via lax via Tokyo.via hongkong,Dubai yet to do the Darwin one but it’s coming soon.
i've done a lot of those routes too, and i think i prefer transiting and not direct, breaks it up a bit more

I'm doing a direct flight from Heathrow to Perth in September and then on to Sydney. Did you go through customs in Darwin (in my case Perth) then have to change terminals and get bags then do the domestic flight? I'm so confused!!
i didn't go thru customs as it was a 'direct flight' with sydney as the final destination, so we just got off the plane for an hour in darwin and then straight back on. i would guess you would probs have to change terminals/get bags in perth as ur changing from an international flight to a domestic one. that being said i've never flown into perth and it depends on border force etc so check with qantas/the airport etc. hope this helps :) x
Love this! Did they give you lunch on the Sydney flight? You'd be lucky to get a sandwich on a 2.5 hour flight here in the States.
thanks! yeah we got a meal as the 5hr sydney flight was part of the direct flight from lhr to syd - darwin was a hidden transit. so that second leg was treated as international/long haul ☺️

hey! that sounds about right to me. the only direct flight they do is to perth and otherwise they usually stop halfway. i stopped in darwin because at the time perth/western australia was completely shut off due to covid. hope that helps and thanks for your comment 🤗
I did New Zealand via la on way out Hong Kong on return about 26 hours nice to have a break half way but think I’d rather a quicker direct flight
tbh if you're travelling to the east coast, this 'direct' flight isn't much quicker! this was 22 hours all up, and i've done it in that time travelling through asia too.

hey! in sydney it took about 20/30mins incl getting baggage and customs - they checked all my travel documents in london which only took 5 mins ☺️ i have an aus passport tho so that probably made it easier.
