Flamenco guitarist Paco Pena will be performing this week at the Park Theatre. The Rhode Show is WPRI 12's daily lifestyle show for having fun, eating well, and living life.
Virtuoso Paco Pena is always so polite and modest, even when having to put up with an ill-mannered and clueless presenter, and no sound check.

Idk why you guys asking for sound checking really... thats the way flamenco guitars sound in. No equalization. Like 70% of youtube videos use microphone equalizations, that is a fake sonority created for productions and studio results over time... not so trust-able for guitar
@ thats the worst recording of paco Ive ever heard. Do you have a guitar at home? If so, take her in your hands and play it. Does it sound like this video? Im not into recording at all but occasionally Im playing and doing simple "voice record" with my old iphone 4s. And I literally mean voice record app with internal iphone 4s 5$ mic, no editing or EQ at all. It does sound at least 10x better than this crappy recording. Prove it to yourself by simple voice recording any guitar playing with your smartphone and listening to it.
Same old polite, discreet flamenco guitar master Paco Peña I have known since 1987!! Posesses an inherent quality of sound perhaps unusual to the flamenco guitar...good old friend....thankfully he did not play with his other cannon of a guitar, namely his famous Jerundino... Wish you the best, maestro!!
Can you imagine if everyone talked and gestured *at* each other like TV adio hosts do? Paco is like an ancient, peaceful rock, unmoved by the storm's waves
Paco starts to play...and blows all needles off the scale. Sound technician frantically tries to adjust treble..fails. Paco plays rasgueado. Bass of the scale.... Sound technician tries frantically to adjust... fails. A simple sound check could have avoided his priceless guitar sounding like a piece of cardboard. They never had live music like this in this studio, and after this disaster..they probably never will again. Great to see you still around live and well Maestro...From an old student 1986-1987.
Sow him just twice at the saddlers well theater Angel London in early 70s if i remember right in1972 it was more than just guitar playing but a whole history of flamenco from when people where working with Iron beating it to shape till guitars n dancers joined in what was so amazing was he filled the whole theater with beautiful music without any amplification i was aware of he really is a master of his craft
Guys u want to hear Paco playing Yellow bird n La Bamba No other La Bamba version will be the same again just Magic n of course flamenco rhythms are all great with TIENTOS for me MUSIC from HEAVEN
"like I'm at a beach, hearing that playing at the BACKGROUND". You really don't have a clue who you're talking to and what just happened IN FRONT of you is it? Unbelievable.
As difficult De Lucia's stuff maybe to play, Pena's pieces require some immaculate finger accuracy. Terrible sound quality but thanks for bringing another humble flamenco guitarist to us!
People who work for the TV tend to act like mindless puppets, it's almost like they're whole life comes through the prompter. And what is that sound ?! Good job Mr. Engineer!
They failed miserably at capturing the guitar sound in this studio. obviously the people in charge there have no Idea what they are doing....what a shame !!!
Those who had that fire scene on at the beginning of the presentation and ended it up feeding that hapless reporter that beach line ; who still are fighting a war of darkness centuries old in the midst of US , that they still got wrong..Sort of like they say in Spain: the birds shooting at the rifles (''Los pajaros disparandoles a las escopetas'' in Spanish) ...Shema!!!
Cette vidéo n'est pas bonne.Le titre cache sa main droite.Inadmissible!!!!ET de plus la prise de vue est " bougeante ".Heureusement Paco Pena joue toujours aussi bien: précision, son pur et clair!!!
Man, that bottom third obscures his right hand for the majority of the video. What a pity. The host imagines hearing him in the "background." Another pity.
Don't think we have to be too critical about the reporter who can't be expected to know much about flamenco. What pisses me off is how these Americans seem incapable of pronouncing a Spanish name correctly. It's Paco, not Parko.
"I feel like I'm at the beach, with that happening in the background..." This crude simpleton in the presence of the Maestro!
He is just so effortless and fluent. He plays beautifully. That's the name of the game.
He's still one of the best guitar players in history as an old man.
masterful performance. i dont think the tv host grasped the magnitude of pacos performance lol.
Paco is so polite...thank you maestro

@ this doesn't sound like the guitar does live, jesus christ

The piece is "punta y tacon" from the great sabicas
Can you imagine if everyone talked and gestured *at* each other like TV

Wonderful Paco....I saw him in London when we were both young. He had his dance troupe with him. Amazing times...much love to Paco.
The Farruca he plays is pure gold,, never get enough of it ...
It was probably the first time in like 55/60 years that paco played and got no aplause or ovation afterwards. Right on, presenter!
I dont think that he realises that he is in the presence of one of the greatest artists on the Planet...........
¿Harían el favor de escribir PACO PEÑA (y no Pena)...?
Gracias
Always loved not only his playing but also his expressive command of the English language which is a rarity in the prominent flamenco world.
That is because he moved to London at the end of the 1960's I think.
Ole ... paco you're best and I love your music ❤
What a grand maestro! Epic playing
paco pena deserves more than that in sound quality....and deserves a better reporter -_- ....a much better one
Yeah...the reporter has no idea and was kind of condescending and smug about the whole thing.
Leyenda. ..!
...(..y para siempre....
This song is handed down from heaven to maestro paco pena...., 😇☄️☯️
Though Sabicas; this farruca is based on Sabicas’ “Punta y Tacón”.
thank you Flamencoblues I was affraid that nobody will mention that this music is a reinterpretation of punta y tacon de Sabicas

I agree. Something drastically wrong with the audio here.
Spot on. Well said
What a Lovely Man. Paco that is. Great Respect Sir.
Beautiful. Gracias Don Paco.
Paco is superlative as always. He communicates Andalucía through his guitar which I notice is a new Gerundino but sounding good.
great music...love the music played
This style of guitar music is called "Flamenco Guitar".
Thank you, thank you for this! Love, love it!
Maybe it deserves mention that Paco essentially played a somewhat abbreviated version of Punta y Tacon by the great Sabicas (1912 -1990).
YES! Thank you that is it. I recognized the melody , it reminded me strongly of Sabicas.
Guys u want to hear Paco playing Yellow bird n La Bamba No other La Bamba version will be the same again just Magic n of course flamenco rhythms are all great with TIENTOS for me MUSIC from HEAVEN
presenter describes as beach background music at the end there wow...no wonder he has the morning commute timeslot
bravo from lombok guitar...salute...
What a tremendous sounding microphone.
😂
saludos Maestro Paco que bien suena el Rasgueo alla
wow Paco Pena right here
What could be this sweet song in intro behind this smart person? 0:01
what a nice la farruca. beautiful
what was the name of that song?
Punta y Tacon by Sabicas ?
Magnificent!!!
Obviously inspired by A. Castellon....the King of the Flamenco Guitar. Ole Paco !
Yeah sabicas very famous for his farruca. Paco peña took a lot from it and did a great job (although where did sabicas learn his falsetas? Lol)
keep the camera still man. wtf is with the handheld camera?
What is the name of the guitar support he is using?
"like I'm at a beach, hearing that playing at the BACKGROUND".
You really don't have a clue who you're talking to and what just happened IN FRONT of you is it? Unbelievable.
haha.. have you seen the movie Idiocracy? I think the movie is already happening, since the publication of the GREAT social media
Underappreciated Comment ! Thanks Maestro Paco
As difficult De Lucia's stuff maybe to play, Pena's pieces require some immaculate finger accuracy. Terrible sound quality but thanks for bringing another humble flamenco guitarist to us!
The piece is Punta y Tacon by Sabicas.
Nice job putting the subtitle over his right hand... come on folks!
Paco PeÑa .)
What does he have under his guitar?
A parte de ser un gran guitarrista que bien habla inglés este señor, very britishly
People who work for the TV tend to act like mindless puppets, it's almost like they're whole life comes through the prompter. And what is that sound ?! Good job Mr. Engineer!
great
Yes new Gerondino. His usual has cedar top and peg head?
They failed miserably at capturing the guitar sound in this studio. obviously the people in charge there have no Idea what they are doing....what a shame !!!
holds neck at a much steeper angle then Paco De Lucia. love his work with Gloria Estefan.
who ever configured that audio microphone is going to hell
heheh i was thinking the same,
how obnoxious is that banner at the bottom? lol
I cant see the right hand
Too bad the audio is so bad on this.
Such a great musician reduced to choppy compressed unbalanced eq by some tv studio engineer.
Disappointing.
I wonder what kinda of people dislike this video?
Those who had that fire scene on at the beginning of the presentation and ended it up feeding that hapless reporter that beach line ; who still are fighting a war of darkness centuries old in the midst of US , that they still got wrong..Sort of like they say in Spain: the birds shooting at the rifles (''Los pajaros disparandoles a las escopetas'' in Spanish) ...Shema!!!
Es "Paco Peña".
El flamenco que mejor habla inglés sin duda
beautiful maestro! but horible sound operator...
Punta y tacon
La clave de los guitarristas de flamenco solistas debe ser Sabicas, casi todos tocan algo suyo
Something wrong with the sound production here. I've heard Paco play live and he sounds a 100 times better than this.
Yea I would totally agree, Paco playing live is amazing, I guess some people just can't appreciate music like this, it's just ignorance.
What's with the logo blocking Pacos' right hand??? We know its the rhodeshow, get rid of it and do a sound check next time! So unprofessional!
OmG this lettering in the middles the screen is so annoying
The beauy of it can't be described by using words.
Although I could critique one thing, the camera work wasn't that great. So shaky.
Mejor escucho a Sabicas.
andalucian food music influenced by gypsys and arabs
Don't think we have to be too critical about the reporter who can't be expected to know much about flamenco. What pisses me off is how these Americans seem incapable of pronouncing a Spanish name correctly. It's Paco, not Parko.
Carlos Montoya was better
they should not invite acoustic guitar players, when they cant afford a good microphone. a shame......
tiene muchos fallos
😅🤣🤣🤣🇪🇸
worst guitar sound I've ever heard.... sounds like a scratchy banjo... mamma
Слишком много болтовни в начале. В остальном - потрясающе
