Hi Samantha, You are very clever to work this out= I couldn't find any help on square on this topic. Is this the last video you have done on this so far? If it is is there somewhere else you would recommend to look to find out how to set up square for this
This is great thanks! I just busked at a big festival and had so many people telling me I should get a tap and go device for cards as I have a QR code to link to my PayPal and Buy me a coffee accounts and a lot of people scan it but then can’t be bothered entering in their card numbers so I’m looking at other options. I’ve seen UK video where buskers have a tap & go option for a preset amount which would be ideal. Not sure if we have that option here…
Hi Samantha, my 14yo daughter also busks here in Adelaide 😊 we are looking into electronic devices for donations. Can i ask, What app are you using on your phone? It looks really simplified, which is great. Also, great videos! This has been the best info i have found. Thankyou
Thanks for this video Samantha - very informative and I appreciate you sharing your experiences in your quest for a practical solution; looking forward to the next episode. Just out of interest what percentage of your donations are made electronically ?? I'm interested in the adoption and how comfortable your audience is with this method of payment ? 😎🎸🎤
I had a look back at the last year or so and it has ranged between 0 - 27.5% depending on the day. I haven't worked much because of illness, so don't have as much to go off as I wish I did. The best day I had, the Square donations added up to $30. I have mostly performed outside of the city in recent times, so I can't say it's an accurate picture of what can be made in a more bustling environment. Regardless, I have made back what I spent on the Square Stand and am making a profit by having it available. 🙂
@@edgesamantha wow thats a higher percentage than I would have guessed !! thank you for sharing that. I play in a duo around caravan parks and put the guitar case out for donations - mostly up in Queensland and have had a few people say that they no longer carry cash so hopefully this will give them an option. At the moment I am also putting together some sets for local busking in Adelaide and looking at the various council requirements - bit of a mine field as no two councils seem to have the same requirements. Hope your health improves ... 😎🎸🎤
Great sharing Samantha, I've had my own issues trying to come to terms with the digital transactions way of doing things. I forked out over $300 for a Square card reader terminal thingy (the bigger thingy they sell at Officeworks et al), it's great! Or it WAS great until the battery completely carked it. I do have the reader you have there, but it's been so long since I used it, and when I first got mine I no idea how to set up different donations etc ... OK so I'm an old fulla, it doesn't help hahaha. Anyhow you've inspired me to drag out the little square do-hickey and run through trying to set up different donation amounts on my phone, as you have there. As I too battle the odd health issue or ten, it's always easier said than done, but I have to do something as so many don't carry cash now. As an aside, I've never had much interest shown by punters (the audience) in the cashless thing, it's as though people just don't trust it or the busker using it ... Thanks and well done!
Oh no! How long did you have it for? Just checking the warranty length and it's only a year! That's disappointing! I guess I'm lucky that my devices have lasted as long as they have, but then I also don't use them on the daily, so I will probably get a longer life from them due to that. Awesome! Glad to hear it. 😊 Hope you can work it out, but if not, part two should be helpful! I totally get that. I think the more we all have eftpos, the more that the public will trust it. I do think the Square Stand makes quite a trustworthy impression and I could imagine "busking kiosks" installed down the mall, which could be utilised by each busker during their sets, so it became the norm. I know that I'm dreaming though! Lol. We can't rely on the council/mall here to help buskers get tips, so we just have to do what we can ourselves!
Not yet, sorry. It's a fairly involved video and I've not been up to working on it, as I've still been reasonably unwell this year, but I am starting to feel healthier now, so I may attack it again soon. Sorry for the hold up.
Looking into card readers for the first time. Really great detailed series you have here! Hilarious when your cat goes into the box.
