You totally saved my life. I’m a new homeowner and recently my under door weather seal fell apart so I tried to replace it. I couldn’t get the gap under the door fully covered no matter how many types I bought and how hard I tried. I finally found your video where you show how you can raise and lower the threshold and lo and behold that’s what I was missing. I was truly going insane and your video saved me. Thank you so much!!! 1:25
ditto -- had a draft coming from the corner of my door threshold because it isn't perfectly level. raised the threshold on one end and it blocks so much more air. thanks so much
This saved me a bunch of time! We could see a little bit of light under our front door. I had no idea that the threshold was adjustable, couple of spins with the screwdriver and the gap was closed. Thanks!!
Wonderful. I am a door specialist and this man has it correct which is surprising for the intertubes. This is a Therma-Tru brand door which I sell replacement caps that cover their adjustment screws and black hinges for them on fleabay. They are hard to find or I wouldn't plug them. I'll add I have 1/8 inch soft wood dowel in my tool bag I jam into wallowed out screw holes then run the screws in. No glue, no fuss, jam it in, snap it off and drill pilot holes when needed then drive the screw. Hole can easily be 'moved' this way. I use longer screws when needed but it is rare. Never use an impact driver which are made for hardened screws only on finish screws that can be seen when installed as they are not hard enough. You damage them and you know it. Knock it off and go fix that leaky door
Hi, someone tried to break in my door. They pull the top of the door open now it drags when I open it. Are there any chances that I fix it. It's the steel top of the door they damaged
@@kshaw2421 Best I can tell you is if it drags they likely messed up the hinges. Insure the screws on both door and jamb are tight in their pockets. A long screw into the top hinge in a hole closest to the middle of the jamb may correct the problem. I would highly recommend applying caulk at both ends of the new weatherstrip and along the exterior fin to prevent moisture damage to the kerf channel. Big problem with the replacements concealed drip fin design has no lip, as compared to the original.
Thanks for this video. Helped a lot and I appreciate how you mentioned to tighten the hinges and check the threshold first. I wouldn’t have thought of that
Oh my God, you solved and made fixing so easy what I'm dealing with for an elderly lady's door that let's a little moisture in when the wind blows the rain hard. Everything looked good on it, but now I'll adjust the threshold screws.
Wow, I love how u layed it all out as I have my backdoor one to replace . Being a woman I can't go wrong now with watching your video as my guide ... thanks
I think I have to use the inside sweep. My mudroom door is missing a bottom seal and I think a past owner removed it because after redoing the floor there there is very little and uneven clearance under the door (120 yr old house). Would it make sense to put a sweeper on both sides to get a better seal?
Worth noting you can buy under-door Kerf fit seals with different Kerf spacing. The first one I bought had them too far apart. Just make sure you're getting the right one.
Your video is very helpful! I trimmed my seal down, and put it in place, but now the door is very tight and putting tension on the doorknob/lock. And now, the seal is so snug I can’t remove it! Any tips?
That was perfect. I have changed the seal on one door and it was a tight fit where I have to push the door hard to make it close. I never knew that you can adjust the bottom threshold. I will do that. Thank you for the tip. Great video as always
Hi, and thanks for this! My only question: you didn't mention why you like to snip the splines off a little at each edge? Otherwise, great. You took all the mystery out for me!

Nice😅 A good exterior door is key as well. Hired a contractor to remove a 3 panel glass sliding patio door & install a 36” exterior door w/ no “light”. Sadly, the threshold wasn’t sealed & flashed. Door was cheapest builders grade could buy, & was framed so wonky that around entire door able to see light coming thru in morning when sun hits it; along w/ that cold air. I ended up used double weather stripping to help, but door isn’t square/plumb, & really needs to be replaced with a better quality door that has a thermal break built in, as this doesn’t & heat/air loss/transfer is poorest I’ve ever seen, 🤦🏼. Lessened learned w/ this contractor.

Hello, thank U so much for showing the different choices for the door sweep.👍💖 I happened to have the U shaped slide in cap style with Aluminum material. My wood door bottom wood rotted due to the leak from the side of the door seal. I purchased a new aluminum sweep to replace it. But then found out, the rubber inserts wipers are too high, so it would move when closing the door. So I end up have to use the Old one, it still works fortunately. May I ask If U prefer metal/aluminum or the PVC material? How long the PVC would last. The metal piece I have , I estimate close to over 20 years, yet it was made out of really good rubber, so it seems no deterioration as of yet. I did install it with a bit tight contact to the Threshold, Would It cause the rubber wipers to deteriorate faster due to the pressure when closing? Are these wipers also designed to ALSO STOP Rain water to come in? Or mostly to prevent Draft and Bugs? Thank U in advance. I look forward to hearing from U! 🙏
First of all, thank you. This type of channels are really helpfull. Man, I wish I lived in a country with decent building regulations like yours. You can actually repair stuff instead of "good enough" fixes and patches like I do here (méxico) How would you add some sort of bottom seal to a steel door that has about 1 inch and a quarter of space between the floor and the door? Also the floor is a bit irregular due to wear so the space bellow it decreases as you open the door
Great job on the video - well explained and useful tips! I just finished installing a new door and buying the jamb kit. I've done this kit before but, after doing THIS job, I will just pay the extra cost of a pre-hung. That being stated, I have a 3/8" gap between the threshold (non-adjustable) and the weatherstripping on the door bottom, which had the twin grooves. I was trying to pry the plastic piece off the threshold but it isn't going to come off without breaking it or mangling it. What do you think would be the best solution in this case - buy the expensive adjustable one or remove the grooved one and just replace it with the "friction" one you show, using screws, of course?
How do you do a "double door" that has the lock mechanism on top and bottom for one side. Working around the rod that goes into the threshold in order to lock in place if not in use. Don't very often open that side, nevertheless I want it sealed around that rod as well.
Very nice video. I bought a new seal for my garage entry door. Its a pretty cheap one with the adhesive backing. It looks to me that it would be more effective on the outside of the door or the garage side if you will. Is there a rule of thumb for which side or is it just what will work best in this case?
My house was built 20 years ago, original door and pins. The hinge pins are giving me a hard time, they don't want to budge. I'm going to try WD40 and try again later. Any other suggestions for pins that don't want to budge? I like your video, and how you showed trimming the strip. Thank you.
That was a good video but can you explain to me how to put 2 kerf's in the bottom of my door and what size the kerf should be because I like the kerf weather stripping the best.
Thanks for the video. Do you have any tips or tricks on how to remove doors that have security hinges? My exterior doors unlike my interior doors have pins that just don’t pop out.
How about for internal door with about 1/2" gap at the bottom? Currently I'm just using a towel to cover that bottom area, but it's a pain to constantly re-cover the bottom door with the towel each night... any easy hack to cover the bottom gap, maybe tape cardboard strip to the bottom, etc?
I installed a friction fit seal and within days the front side had started warping. What did i do wrong? Should i try to glue or use silicone to hold the front face in place?
I'm finding that my door doesn't have enough clearance to fit these, even though it was clearly designed with a kerf. The previous one was super worn down, and anything I try to put on my door makes it too tight of a fit and I can't shut the door.

I have an exterior pre hung door and rain keeps getting in at the bottom. I have the threshold adjusted as high as it will go and water is still coming in under the sweep. It's so tight the sweep is tearing in two places and I know it shouldn't need to be that tight. Any ideas? Also, where did you buy your sweep? Mine has 4 fins, but I like the design of yours better. Thanks!
Great video!! Can one use any type of seal? Or do we have to use the same that was installed before? If we can use any type of seal, which is the best? Thanks!

I don't know if I am supposed to measure the visible portion or count the lips that get inserted in the threshold. (The current insert is too deteriorated to pull out anything to measure the total width. I will have to dig out the pieces in the channels.)
Thanks for the video, my door bottom is neither flat or has the kerf rail like yours. it has a Lip in the outer edge and I notice a metal c clip to the width of the door bottom against the lip. it is missing any rubber insert in it, I searching what rubber insert to be fit there.. any help appreciated

What is the solution if you had new hardwood floors installed and the floor is uneven,But your door is true and the door rubs on the hinge side of the door,Can I put a adjustable threshold in.The threshold that’s there now is from the original house and didn’t come with the door.
The kerf cut are those lines cut into the bottom of the door which will then hold those little splines in the door seal. You will usually also see kerf cuts around your door for the weather seal.
I have fiberglass doors with the channel type strips, but they seem to be different than any other kind out there. The idiot that sold me the doors told me he would drop them off, but going on two years, nothing. I wiped out his contact info and now need to locate these. Any ideas?
Please don't put staples or long nails to secure these. The reason is for painting. A lot of the materials used for these do not let tape stick well to them so removing them to paint is much cleaner and easier but not if the door has to be removed. A short nail or tack is best because the seal can be removed and replaced with the door still on. A long nail is both difficult to pull and won’t clear the floor and staples are hard to line back up.

Thx!
I have a door in my home that appears to be crooked..the previous owners put it up wrong.
How can I fix it?
Do i still need a curf if my door touches my threshol?
Helped me thank you
What is the 'kerf'?
The kerf cut are those lines cut into the bottom of the door which will then hold those little splines in the door seal. You will usually also see kerf cuts around your door for the weather seal.
I have fiberglass doors with the channel type strips, but they seem to be different than any other kind out there. The idiot that sold me the doors told me he would drop them off, but going on two years, nothing. I wiped out his contact info and now need to locate these. Any ideas?
Great video, clear and concise!
What kind of screws or nails do you use
Please don't put staples or long nails to secure these. The reason is for painting. A lot of the materials used for these do not let tape stick well to them so removing them to paint is much cleaner and easier but not if the door has to be removed. A short nail or tack is best because the seal can be removed and replaced with the door still on. A long nail is both difficult to pull and won’t clear the floor and staples are hard to line back up.
Where do you find the threshold adjusting screws.
Gimme a link to the flooring you got in that room, bro. Thanks.
Oh man, not sure I have a link. It was already in the home when we purchased. Some type of engineered wood.
for the door hinges... you can just put a couple of toothpicks in the hole and use the same screw.
