I was always curious what Marion thought of frozen udon vs. shelf stable udon. I always thought frozen was better. Translation: Marion knows what’s best. 😌 Also: MSG = Umami 🍅 🧂 🍲. Also; ❤️🧡💛 you Marion! 🇦🇺 🇹🇭 💄 🥢
Looks wonderful. The hardest part of this recipe is navigating the asian store and finding these powders and the noodles amongs a 1000 other similar looking products all with labels that are not in english heh.
What is so admirable about everything you present besides, your cue is technique. You have been taught well by "mom Noi" and graciously translate simply, deliciously 😋 wonderful meals. You prepare love as the main ingredient......Mahalo and Aloha!.....
Only the noodles are frozen when I put them in the pot, and I use instant dashi and wakame, everything else is fresh. I don’t freeze the whole soup. Reading this I realise how lucky I am to have a Korean grocer near my work. :)
I avoid MSG & most salt when cooking because I have kidney disease. I also have to limit the amount of protein I use (only 100 gm per day). I know decreasing the salt in a recipe changes its flavor but I would rather have a little flat-tasting food than have my kidneys fail; sorry Uncle Roger. Marion- I love your recipes because I love Thai, Japanese, & Chinese food, & now I can make my favorite dishes at home while adjusting their salt content according to my diet. I would still love for you to make Mee Grob. Please consider doing so. Thanks.
I love udon noodles and always buy the frozen ones. Thank you for sharing the tips about dashi packets - I didn’t know and took pics of the packages for when I head to the local Asian market.
Yayyyyy that’s what I’ve been waiting for!! Can’t wait to make it 💜💚 Same here, I hardly go out these days, I cook everything at home, I don’t like to also add msg to my cooking, I don’t always add sugar if I feel I can do without it, butter, lard when I recipe calls for it, but that’s just me, if I feel like a dish needs it then I will add it. 😜🌸💜🍜
Actually niether MSG or Salt are a problem, the problem within the modern diet is SUGAR. Even if MSG and Salt were a problem, MSG would be less of a problem.
You right about Uncle Roger! He'd roast you for it 😁. 9:20am in India and this is my first video of Sunday morning. I'm making this for dinner tonight! 🥰
Thank you for these recipes. Great for week nights. I crave for dashi udon more than I crave for ramen. Who cares about what that Uncle Roger sez???!!!!?? If he stands for authenticity, that is fine. He should create his own cooking videos, WITH HIM DOING THE COOKING, promoting authenticity.... but to criticize people for innovating is pulling back the boundaries that a lot of chefs and home cooks have tried to expand. I consider his comments divisive, a form of cancellation. He capitalizes on our fear of becoming cancelled. Enough of this cancellation culture. He is just a free rider on the coattails of others. Lazy. Opportunistic. Unimaginative. Unplug his plug.
Hello miss Marion thank you for the most amazing wonderful super delicious yummy yummy Recipe and thank you for your video enjoy ❤️❤️❤️❤️🟩💞🔴🔴💕💕💕💕💌🟧♦️🌼🌼💛💛♦️🟧🟧💌💌💙💟🌷💗💗💞💞💜💕🔴🔴💕🟨♥️
I don't mind MSG when we go out to eat but when it comes to home cooking, it's a no no for me. It really doesn't have anything to do with health concerns but more like a generation thing. My mother always prides herself for cooking authentic Vietnamese food without MSG, she considers it cheating since it enhances the flavor and sorta makes all of her efforts seem less impressive. That kind of mentality passed down to me I guess 🤷
I agree. I've got lots of asian recipe books -- none of them rely on MSG. MSG users always speak like drug addicts defending their addiction!! Antony Bourdain even called non-MSG-users 'racist'!!!!!!!
Ummm... you say simple, but most people don't have a asian store near them😂 The soup base is not easy to find for most people...Try to refine your content on "Simple"🤣😂

Hi Marion,
The kelp/konbu is natural MSG. Thats a large part of why its used to make dashi
Frozen Udon is life changing.
Love the production on your videos lately. Amazing
My life changed when I discovered frozen udon noodles.
Do you make it fresh, and directly frozen it or you cook it before froze?
Only the noodles are frozen when I put them in the pot, and I use instant dashi and wakame, everything else is fresh. I don’t freeze the whole soup. Reading this I realise how lucky I am to have a Korean grocer near my work. :)
They have a lot of Japanese items.
Simple and just right.
Classic! 😎
You’re amazing Marion! Can’t wait to make this. It’s perfect for cold weather 😍😘

Does Mama Noi know about this MSG issue?
Oh for once NO hot sauce or foods 😊
The teriyaki sauce is only $1.50 a bottle at a Japanese supermarket in my country. No need to make it
I’m Asian, but i don’t like MSG either 😊
Jeez cooking without MSG is like cooking without salt or sugar. Give me alllll the flavour in my food thanks.
Hi Marion! What you DON’T KNOW is that……both soy sauce and oyster sauce contain MSG!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yup, bet the anti-msg people will happily chow down on a packet of chips too lmao
