    It’s crazy how different of an experience you can get just by not having access to the supercharger network. I just completed a 5000 mile road trip to Wisconsin and back in my Model Y with zero charging issues at all. Didn’t matter that I drove through a blizzard with 35 mph winds in near sub zero temperatures, pulling into each charging station with 5% or less each time for the fastest charging. I was able to be 100% confident in the supercharger network, and in the ability of my Tesla to charge. An average stop for me during this trip was 15 minutes, and it cost me half of what a gas car would’ve cost. Other EV manufacturers are just so far behind on so many fronts it’s crazy.

      @@MindBodySynergyllc You nailed the biggest question when it comes to Tesla opening up its network.
      When you look at a Tesla charging station, no screen. All the communication is done with a flashing led by the charge port and the screen in the car. How will this work with 2rd party vehicles? I would assume a phone app would allow you to communicate with Tesla's charging network.
      The next thing is availability. I can see Tesla owners getting upset if they see a Ford or worse a GM vehicle charging and there are not enough space for your Tesla. I do know that Tesla is putting the hammer down on getting more chargers out there.
      I am also looking for the 1st Fast Food and/or convenience store chain to do a partnership with Tesla and install a handful of chargers at each of their locations at major intersections (interstate exits). I expect this to happen before 2023 draws to a close.

    Thank you for sharing this experience with people. I owned an EV for 2 years (in a very EV friendly city) and found that over the years the charger eco system actually got worse, not better. A lot of the chargers around my city began to stop working and with more people now own EV's, the chargers that do work are always occupied. I cut my losses and went back to a gas engine.

      Thats why non-Telsa EVs are good for one thing: local trips and charging at home. At 35k miles on my Nissan Leaf I've saved over 50% of the purchase price of the vehicle in gas savings vs my previous vehicle. I charge exclusively in my home garage and pay next to nothing for power in my area, so I drive around for 1/10th the cost of gas in my old SUV

    • @readtherealanthonyfaucibyr6444
      @readtherealanthonyfaucibyr6444 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@readtherealanthonyfaucibyr6444 This is why I'm surprised by the fact that the Chevy Volt didn't take off. A reverse Hybrid is what we needed for the next 20 years. EVs can't become mainstream until 2040, infrastructure takes time. Tesla has done a good job, but it doesn't make them mainstream.

    • @readtherealanthonyfaucibyr6444
      @readtherealanthonyfaucibyr6444 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kbenti I loved the Chevy Volt when it was under development. I regularly visited and posted on their "gm-volt" fan website. The only problem with the 1st generation was the gas mileage. 35-40 MPG is not very good. A 120 mile trip in a Prius uses slightly over 2 gallons of gas. A 120 mile trip in a Volt uses the same amount of gas PLUS a full battery. The longer the trip, the more the Volt would fall behind in economics, because if its lower gas mileage. The 2nd gen Volt, 2016 and up (stopped in 2018 I think), was a big improvement. GM didn't seem like they were fully emotionally invested in the car.

      I think its the only viable way to "keep up/catch up" to tesla, they can barely get the car side of things right. A bigger company like Chevy with the money though...idk if they got the excuses, im talking bout other brands like rivian/lucid who'd be in a much better position by relying on those 3rd party chargers for now until they can at least get somewhat on their feet with some car sales. The other thing is it would be such a waste of space and money if every company had to have hundreds of charging stations, thats why a 3rd party one isnt a terrible idea, but its not a great one either...as it could be using old tech thats holding back your newer vehicles.
      Tesla is only able to do it bc they got to the game SOOOOOO much earlier than the rest

    bought a Model Y 6 weeks ago and immediately took it on the road driving over 5k miles. No problem charging and no line at any station. What I DID SEE was most of the other chargers, like the ones you showed in this video, are broken and/or taped off. The ones that did work are unbelievably slow and people ere just giving up on them and they just give up on any kind of radius they can get with their EV. It's just a town car. At a truck stop one night I saw a Hummer like yours sitting there and I asked him how it was going and he said he's been charging for 17 hours and had 6 to go. He put up a tent next to his truck for his kid since they got so tired of sitting in the Hummer. Plus they have to keep unplugging and plugging the charger since it keeps coming up with errors. Same with a Mach E that was next to him. They didn't have a choice but to sit and charge since they were on a major highway in the middle of Utah (15) and there wasn't a choice than to wait and watch the charger. Felt real sorry for them. Especially since it was at a truck stop with nothing near them other than more gas stations and a large Tesla charging area.

    We drove our Tesla model Y from Pennsylvania to Florida in December last year. It was around 100 dollars to pay for charging to get there. Our hotel has free chargers so that was nice.
    On our way back it cost is 110 to pay for charging. We didn’t have to wait too long while charging either. We had a great time.
    But yeah, I can see having a non-Tesla where you can run into charging issues.

  • @saint7626
    @saint7626 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    Check your Instagram DMs! Also, the discrepancy between mileage shown on the screen, and the distance you're able to drive actually is because of the larger tires (In addition to the ride height). Larger tires increase braking and off-road performance, but they're heavier and they increase drag. For an EV with the spec differences you mentioned, the difference in efficiency could be 10-15% less.

    • @ICP1SBJ
      @ICP1SBJ ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the tires aren't that much bigger because he went down an inch on rim size and the tire was 2" up so one inch shouldn't be that big of a deal. (But that 1" means a lot to the females.. hahaha)

    • @bwame
      @bwame ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In my experience a 37" vs 35" can weight 10-20 lbs more per tire. That is somewhat substantial and I would assume especially with an EV. You also go further with each rotation of the tire vs a smaller tire. The larger tire will certainty decrease range but it would be interesting to know what the actual mileage impact is (measuring via the odometer vs range estimate) with the 37" vs stock size.

    Im going to totally guess the reason why it wouldnt charge, the cold effected the voltage of the battery and the charger denied the charge access as it didnt meet parameters set. If that's the case then the bats need passive heating to stabilize temps.

    I suspect there is something wrong with the high voltage system on the Hummer itself. When you plug in the high voltage charging systems, it causes an error and shuts down the charger to keep it from causing a fire or something similar. My guess is either when you were off-road or changing the tires/rims you got something snagged and it damaged the charging circuit.

    Just came across this video. The frustration is palpable in that there is absolutely NO reliability via these 3rd party chargers. It is no wonder the manufacturers have reached their patience threshold and partnered with Tesla to gain access to the Supercharger network and bring reliability to consumers. I have taken multiple 1-2K roadtrips in my Model 3 and Y and have not had any issues with the SC network. Even at full capacity, charging is a breeze. The HUMMER EV truck is stunning, the wrap and wheel tire combo is killer, but in the end, there is no point if you can’t rely on the chargers at all. Hope to see the CT take on Moab on a future video!!. ✌🏻😎.
