    Turn it upside down and work the coins out with a butter knife but it's apparent I had a creative childhood

      I'm sure with enough time and effort that would have worked. I've used that technique before. But the hammer was much more expedient!

    You don't have to break the bank, use a dinner knife to work the coins out, we often did this with piggy banks.

    Use to use a butter knife. Turn the piggy over with the butter knife in the slot. Shake the bank while trying to get the coins to fall out with the knife.

    Very thoughtful of Tim. Someone's piggy bank treasure is now yours. Couldn't believe you had those silver coins. Normally if it was a kid's piggy bank it would have the lower denomination coins in it. Was glad to see those wartime tombac 5 cents. Happy holidays.

When I was a kid we never knew how much was in the bank till we counted it. And that was always fun! Anyhow I was just saying it's pretty easy using a butter knife

    This video was awesome, going to be hard to top this with a coin roll hunt
    I sorted all my metal detecting pennies, 93 copper 63 zinc/steel, all the zinc/steel were wasted except for a 2006 in good shape, but it wasn't a rare one

      @@CADRollHunter the 1917 quarter & 1919 dime were really sweet finds. I've never seen a Tomback nickel before either. Were they minted for just that year?

      @@DWCNCThe tombac nickels were, essentially, war nickels. Partway through 1942 they started minting the 1942 nickels in tombac, with the regular beaver design. In 1943, they continued the tombac nickels with a modied "V" design for victory. In 44 and 45 they nited the V nickesl, but changed the composition again to chromium plated steel.

      I inherited my grandfathers coin collection and it was much like the one you were showing coins that were just put away while they were still new. My grandfather moved to Canada in the early 50s and so some of it was really beautiful dimes and other coins from that time. That obviously had not been circulated for very long. It was cool to go through his collection and see money from all points of his life, and as he traveled later in life money from all over the world.

    I think i would use a small hole saw to carefully drill out the belly of the ceramic piggy bank

      Thanks for watching. This is exactly how Tim got it as part of the estate purchase. The fact that there was nothing super-rare in there is a strong indication it's legit. It was pretty cool to see what a child (presumably) would have stuffed away almost 80 years in piggy bank.
