      @Walker Magnet - any time! Thanks again for sending the screwdriver/magnet. It's a fixture in all my hunts now! (I'd better not lose it!!). Not sure if you saw my CRH 101 video, but it features in that video when I show my coin roll hunting setup. Thanks!

    I just bought (and received) a $5 from Barbados of which only 130 (one hundred and thirty) coins were minted. It is the 1983 proof issue in silver. I paid 6.50 for it, which is about half of the silver spot price (it contains 1 ounce of .800 fine silver). Those early proofs were made by the Franklin Mint, a private mint back in the 1970s and 80s, as a partner with the BarbGov in a kind of speculative business, and the coins were struck in decreasing numbers, as demand dwindled, ending in this ridiculous mintage, the lowest in the series. Current circulating Barbados coins are actually made at the Royal Canadian Mint, so that quarter made somewhat the way back to its birthplace, its "maternity clinic". Yes, mintage is unknown, but 1994 is the most frequent date for this type. Cheers!

    • @CADRollHunter
      @CADRollHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for this info - that's a crazy low mintage for that coin, and you got it for a steal of a deal!

    There is a free sound analyzer program called Audacity, which can be used to tell the difference in the sounds of dropping 1967 quarters on hard surfaces. They are quite distinctive.

    • @CADRollHunter
      @CADRollHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure there are ways to distinguish between the 50% and 80% silver coins, but coin dealers and silver dealers don't even bother to try. They just buy/sell them all at the same price. This is simply because most people can't tell the difference, and don't have the equipment to do so, so wouldn't be able to verify the claim that it's 80%.

    • @meteoman7958
      @meteoman7958 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CADRollHunter True but aren't you curious to know? Get rid of the 50%ers at 65% and keep the 80%.

    • @CADRollHunter

      If I was buying and selling in bulk to melt, maybe, but then again, at volume, the effort to determine each coin just wouldn't be worth the effort!

    Don't forget to check that Fort Mchenry reverse for doubling in the starburst, door, windows, roof, and flag. Philadelphia mint only. Great hunt!

    • @CADRollHunter
      @CADRollHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have some quick advice for the 1978 small or large denticles. The date is more to the left on the large version.
    It appears the large bust was also used for 1974-1978 quarters.

    Something I noticed the other day, when the Queen came to power in ‘53, the nickel was the chromium plated steel due to shortages in nickel supply. Here we are in the year of her passing and the nickel once again is plated steel 😂🧐😔

    • @CADRollHunter
      @CADRollHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True enough! Hopefully these ones will hold up better than the chromium plated steel nickels of the 50s!

    Great Video CAD! I love your channel because I learn a lot about Canadian Currency! I love how you say American coins are foreign just as I say Canadians are foreign! Those Commemoratives are awesome! Im glad it was a good hunt for you! And SILVER!!!
    Also, look for the 2008 Arizona Die Chip (Extra Cactus Leaf Error) it will be on the reverse of the coin where the designers initials are! They are pretty common, but cool to collect!

    SUCH an awesome quarter hunt there, eh! And I'm about to get a 1978 RCM Double Dollar Prestige Set (which includes the Voyageur and silver Commonwealth Games dollar coins) from a Facebook auction with some of the coin groups that I'm in. Also, I was able to get another commemorative loonie as well, and it's a '94 Remembrance Day commemorative. What I never understood about Prestige Sets is that are they actually proof sets in general, or simply proof-like?

    • @CADRollHunter
      @CADRollHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much! For those prestige sets, I don't think Canada had true 'Proof' coins until later. Earlier years, I think, would be considered Proof-Like and were likely struck more than once for enhanced detail and finish, but might not feature that 'frosted' appearance. Great pick-up with the double dollar set. I like that silver dollar as well.

    Wow James, another great hunt! Lots of shiny commemoratives!
    Do you keep all of the better condition ones? As far as I can tell Canada and the USA have similar amounts of circulating commemoratives, but US coin roll hunters don't often show them on video. Or is it just the way you personally like to make videos? (I don't watch many other Canadian cointubers.)

    • @CADRollHunter
      @CADRollHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Alrik! I do keep all of the better condition commemoratives, particularly the lower mintage colourized coins. It's also partly my style, to provide some information or education on some of these commemoratives. I'm also aware that the majority of my viewers are not Canadian, and may not have seen these coins before, and might find them interesting.

    Love your vids! How do you know of that 1967 you got is 50% or 80% silver? Can you tell the difference between the 2?

    • @CADRollHunter
      @CADRollHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ace - thanks for watching - I appreciate it! There's no easy way to tell the difference between the two. The specifications are identical. Some folks will say that you can "hear" the difference, that if you drop it on the surface, the 80% coins will have a higher pitch. I haven't been able to distinguish in this way. You might be able to use an instrument to discern the difference, but bullion dealers don't even bother to try. They price it as if they're all at 65% silver.

    How do you know all of the die varieties? Is there a book you recommend?

    • @CADRollHunter

      There are a few resources I rely on. In print it's the Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Coins. On the web it's the coinsandcanada.com website. I'm definitely not an expert in all the die varieties, just some more common ones I've learned about over time. Thanks for watching!
