Hi Yolanda, just finished making the poncho for my daughter Victoria.....she loves it. I omitted the shells and fringe and made it longer. Thank you for all your help. Your videos are the best. So easy to follow. Thank you again.

Nice to know that it worked out for you. I am an intermediate and have been crocheting for more than a decade. But this design didn’t work out for me. My yarn was slightly thicker, and at first I used a 4 mm hook, it was too tight (or narrow as it grew longer) my model is medium sized 24 year old. So I opened it up half way changed the hook to 4.5 mm and after doing two rows of 7 chains with the new hook, I changed to 8 chains and again after 2 rows I changed to 9 chains until the very end.
That made it better (wearable maybe) but it’s nothing like hers. Mine did not grew wider and wider at all. I even shook it hard like she said.
Don’t know what I am doing wrong 😑

I have been browsing crochet tutorials all day... some people don't like it but I LOVE it when the instructors talk throughout the video. It calms my nerves. :) Your tutorials are great. :) Thanks for taking the time out to teach us. And I agree, frustration actually births you out in this type of hobby. :) I learned a LOT dropping stiches and skipping chains lol. :)

I made this design for my sister and she loved it. I didn't use the simply soft, and i think that might be why my shells actually constricted the bottom and made it curve back in like a wine glass. I took out the shells and it doesn't look quite as nice, but i still like it a lot and so does my sister. I love all of your videos, thanks so much for taking the time out to do these.

I thought about leaving it plain, but it looks so pretty with the shells. So if you want to do the shells, do the double crochets into the the stitch used to attach the chains of the previous row. So you chain 7, then attach to the chain 7 loop, and then put 7 double crochet into the single crochet immediately following. This will fill in the gap that the chains would have created. You just follow everything else yolanda taught. She has been such a great teacher. I have learned so much.

I love the fact that you don't overkill the stitches a lot of people will show 5 or 6 stitches on every row and the tutorial moves to slowly.... Great Work! Thanks

First of all I love the poncho and so do my girls. They are going to use them as a bathing suit cover up. It looks like you have 3 double crochet rows and that must have been what I was looking at when I did the first one. It didn't seem to make a difference. I am making another one right now. and I said I wasn't going to do any more because it is alot of work chaining. I changed my mind after my girls liked them so much. Thanks for the pattern, it's great and you are a good teacher.

I tried it several times as it was coming out narrow. I was not a happy bunny, but I was determined. So I want back to the beginning and followed every step and also listened very carefully as Yolanda was fast with the talk through. Anddddd then got where the problem was (for someone like me a beginner).
When you come to the end of the fourth row of the double crochet, leave 2 space. Listen to Yolanda 9 minutes into this video, she says skip the very first space and then work a single crochet. That stage was not very clear until i looked at a work clearly to see that you need to continue working the single crochet into every space there after. Whala it worked for me.
Thanks Yolanda poncho rocks and I was determined

I enjoy watching all of your videos Yolanda, you make them very easy to understand with all your spoken instructions. This poncho looks as though it would be worked up really quickly and you could embellish those open work chains with all sorts of little jewellery, little buttons or little crochet flowers as well as the shells you did. You could also put some sort of stitches into the open spaces to thicken it up for the winter. You could do all sorts with this poncho! Keep up the good work!

Hi here. How did you get it to be triangular in shape instead of a straight skirt look?

Hi Yolanda, I absolutely love your tutorials. I also had a problem with the shells shrinking the poncho making the bottom tight. I discovered the problem by looking closely at the close up you show of the pink poncho. The seven double crochet needed to make the shells are done in the slip stitch from the previous row and not in the row of chains. Now my ponchos can look as good as yours. Thanks for teaching me so much. God Bless, and Aloha from Hawaii.
