    Sounds exciting !! like double-six feeling
    for novice drivers,
    Mazda gives them a rev limit of 7000rpm.
    (787B is available a rev limit of 9000rpm.)
    but..He couldn't detune his lust,so reved up to almost 7300rpm.

    The 787B is probably the most important Japanese racing car ever, because it is the only Japanese car to ever win the 24 Heures Du Mans - the Le Mans 24 hour race, which it did in 1991. This proved to the world that the Japanese can compete at the highest level of motorsports - and win (because the Le Mans in that era was arguably even more important and mad than the Formula 1). The mighty Mazda's technicians famously said after winning the race that it could easily go for another 24 hours......

    It used a 4-rotor R26B Wankel engine which produced over 700 hp (522 kW). Engine speed (RPMs) were deliberately kept low for longevity under the extreme stresses incurred during a 24-hour endurance race. The 787 was reported to have a redline around 9000rpm. However, interviews with Mazdas 787 race engineers revealed that the power of the quad-rotor increased dramatically above 9000rpm. One engineer stated that the car could develop more than 930hp with a redline around 10,500rpm.

    @nipponbaka the 700hp"mode" is actually the lowered setup. the car actually produced over 900hp, but they brought it down to 700hp to extend the engine's life ...

    To expand on that for those who don't know, the 787B's were handed a HUGE advantage prior to the 1991 Le Mans race. The Mazda's (for reasons I forget) were permitted to run a full 100kg lighter than most of their opposition. During the race it's self, the Mercedes C11's had a huge lead come Sunday morning, but failed one by one handing the lead to the super reliable (and very lucky) 787B's. Don't get me wrong, I salute their success but it was handed to them on a plate..

    Ah, this is a GLORIOUS video! Let's see here. The sound we're hearing is like that of a 2.6 liter two stroke 4-cylinder, which inflates to a 5.2 liter 4-stroke. I'll bet the torque curve is as flat as a board, so it pulls from idle to rev limiter, no matter what, if only it were equipped with short gear ratios.

  • @Smegma007

    This car is special because every revolution an engine cylinder intakes gas and air into the chamber, explodes the gas and ejects the carbon dioxide. Unlike standard engine that uses 2 revolutions to do that.

    In 1991, Mazda became the first and only Japanese car manufacturer to win the prestigous 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. Using the Wankel rotary engine, it was also the only non-piston engine car to ever win. All three Mazda 787B cars to enter the race finished the gruelling event in respectable 1st, 6th and 8th positions. Of a total of 46 entrants, only 12 cars officially finished the race, 4 did not make the required classification, 22 did not finish.

    well, sort of. it's a lot of valve overlap that causes it. and that makes more power at high revs by using the exaust pulsation to draw more air in the cilinder. so it's not designed in on purpose, it's a by-product of the valve overlap

    Here is the proof that rotaries are more powerful than any piston engine. No one could ever compete against this car because of it's light weight. This is why it was ban from the Le Man's 24 hour race. It's light weight kept a distance against those pistons! Rotary for life.

    the car was banned because the engine was deemed too reliable, only having 5 moving parts gives it advantage against its piston counterparts in endurance races. After this car finished the lemans race, the engine was disassembled and inspected. The inspectors at the track fully admitted that the R26B would have kept running for at least another 24 hours.

    it's not due to running rich per se, it's the design of the engine. there is no actual exaust stroke or valve. the port opens directly after the power "stroke". two strokes tend to have the exact same thing

    90º which means 4 power events for every E-Shaft rotation, that is why they sound as if they rev a helowa lot higher than they actually are.
    personally I like the 20B sound a bit more, They are spaced 120º so the tone is a tad bit lower....
    the 13b's having only 2 rotors, are obviously spaced 180º. giving the rough sounding, but still awesome tone....

    @deggis4 i belive the 787B does not meet regulations anymore because the 4-rotor engine was "an unfair advantage" or so it would seem.
    the 787 was powered by the 4rotor engine, and made its debute in 1990 in the 24hr's of lemans. the next year they introduced the 787B and ( it won or nearly won i cant remember)
    after that i cant find anything on it, i can only asume they change the regulations cuz the car wooped ass, hell it started in 19th and at the 19th hr it was in first !

  • @DeVilleL13
    @DeVilleL13 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @420rogerz it was banned for a few reason weight, power, reliablity and in '91 the 787b's finished 1st , 6th & 8th. The Mazda RX-7 has won more IMSA races in its class than any other model of automobile, with its one hundredth victory on September 2, 1990. Following that, the RX-7 won its class in the IMSA 24 Hours of Daytona race ten years in a row, starting in 1982. The RX7 won the IMSA Grand Touring Under Two Liter (GTU) championship each year from 1980 through 1987, in all rotorys are king

    They're more like a 1 stroke or something (no idea), because on one rotor rotation the output shaft spins three times, and there are three combustions, so it's like one combustion per rotation of the output shaft.
    I think, or something.

    yees but the Rev limit is set to the maximum fatiuge strength of the engine and its insternal components. most engines will rev till they blow all dependant on the losses through friction and werether it can reach a equilibrium with the combustion(highly unlikely though, head the 787b can hit up to 10,500rpm and pull a figure like 710hp(unofficial), they capped it at 9000 for reliability in lemans

  • @DeVilleL13
    @DeVilleL13 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @fergus1494 And as for the Porsche 962 has never been banned, it was the replacement for the 956 which was banned in the US series on safety grounds as the driver's feet were ahead of the front axle center line. Jochen Dauer got the 962 re-classified as a road legal GT1 car under a loophole in the new ACO regulations for the 1994 24 Hours of Le Mans.

    Say what you will about the diesels, but I kinda dig being able to hear all the other sounds that the engine normally covers, i.e. the gearbox. I wouldn't want a whole grid of diesels, but a couple is cool. plus maybe the new engine in the R15 will sound better.

  • @carmodifire
    @carmodifire 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @oOranjeo I think that, from a tuner's point, the older engine would be better, but from a manufacturer's point, more technology to improve the rotary is better. Also, it gives the tuner's a better platform, once the price goes down. I found a way to somewhat solve the thermal expansion problem of the rotary engine, it should give more efficiency and power.

  • @deggis4
    @deggis4 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Subsw00fers You have a point but it's still misleading to imply that only one type of engine was banned (what many people seem to think) because there never was a rule specially against rotaries. Every manufacturer faced the same sitaution because none of them used 3.5L NA engines in 1990. In 1991 the early adopters Jaguar and Mercedes started experimenting with ones. Mazda actually continued (sadly with only Peugeot and Toyota) to the 1992 season, using a rebadged Judd V10.

    @ctbtyper 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're forgetting the number of firing impulses per rev. With a 4-rotor engine, at the same RPM it will sound like a higher pitch than the RX8's 2-rotor engine because there are twice as many firing impulses for each rev.

  • @deggis4
    @deggis4 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Subsw00fers (Continues) I think there's a difference between "being banned" and "not meeting the regulations". In racing context being banned kind of implies that something was first legal under the rulebook but then was made illegal by a specific rule change to the same rulebook, which is not the case with the 787B.

But, I like the points you make and you actually understand the rotary engine unlike most people.

    @CemetaryGatesML "Anymore" - we're talking about 20 year old events, so there there are no current regulations as the (World Sportscar) Championship ceased in 1992. Le Mans has continued and new series has been created but they're not related to the Group C regulations used between 1982-1992/93.
    As I have already explained in my previously here, there was no "unfair advantage" and the regulations changes had absolutely nothing to do with Mazda. This is the point I'm trying to made.
