This series of videos is awesome. I appreciate My friend Pete asking the questions that I would ask if I were standing there with Javier and Ramone. Great Job.
@Bmotoring The ground it was thrown on is clean, and it's "Vinyl", which means it can be cleaned off, it won't hurt to put it on the ground for a few minutes, the vinyl top is a big area to apply glue. I wouldn't recommend to do it on a rainy day or out back on the dirt!.....
@dougthathughere The vinyl used for a hardtop is designed for just that purpose, it's water proof. You can order a top from your local upholstry shop that will fit your car. Pete
@bigalwillis Thats what it's all about. Doing it yourself. I actually didn the sae thing to my 66 GTO I had, used some throw away brushs and went with it. Turned out GREAT.
I was going to remove the vinyl top on my car, but after watching this I'm not so sure. I have a new found appreciation for the work that went into it (plus it's a good place to put my tools without damaging the bodywork :P
I have a 1992 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special front wheel drive. I purchased the OEM vinyl top but where can I find the thin white core that’s padding underneath the vinyl??
Nice I never saw a Video in details how to put one on Just the same run of the mill video installment shit like you see a guy roll it on and then video is cut showing him all done not as easy as you think. I had one guy do a Vinly top at My house for me 15 years ago all by himself I watched him he did a Perfect Job No steamer and today its still holding up like he just did it I was proud of his work I even Tip him $50 more for a job well done.
@TWMFARMS As far as "Contact Cement" goes, 3m is one of the best. There is a brand you can buy at Lowes that's pretty good and saves you money, don't forget, some of the products you pay more for is because of the NAME!
I hope these guys know their shit! Wow, don't think I'd attempt screwing up a sweet ride like that. Just imagine how I could screw that job up! hahahhaha......Great new channel Pete!
Im sure somebody else commented about how these guys r doin it wrong but heres my comment ....I did this for a Living from 1982 to 1990 all over the Philadelphia, Jersey and PA. areas Body shops, Car dealers and Used car Dealers My buddy and I would bang these out in 30min or less ....Wow! Its been a Little over 25yrs since the last time I put on a Vinyl Top and this is the first time I watched somebody else do it and Damn! Spray that whole Top n Just throw that shit on the car... that paper is no trick...and working from front to back is wrong..Grab it on side with ur partner n eye up the seams from front n back n just use your fingers as a guide to where the seams should be from the corners.... oh god this comment is getting Long and ah..where am I..... oh! n use a heat gun and straight edge Razors...I forgot to Tell ya all I have Health problems today because of all those years of using Glue without a Resperator.About 25 to 35 Vinyl Tops a week until it all died out around 1988 and also Pop up sunroofs using silicone.I have central nerve problems ..The MRI of my brain shows multiple White matter lesions
Starting from the center, and going from side to side is much easier to do the job. I just center it from the center of the material, and the center of the top..(front to Back )Just tack it in the middle, and work your way to the side with about 12' of gluing at a time.It is not necessary to have your windows out, and if you don't doing this way is impossible. The end result is what matters!!!
I always wondered how they put a vynil top on at the factory. They had to have had a much faster method. I had my Caddy done and it took a lot longer than these guys.
Nice, love watching instructional videos with lots of profanity. I can see those guys rolling their eyes after every dorky question he asks.

wha kinda vinyl did he use..email me please..
it is easy, but the way these guys do it is much more difficult then installing it from door to door, and gluing 1/3 of the roof at a time.
this isnt a good way to install a top..why is the top on the ground with dirt and dust.then picked up and rolled up
exclusive .. thanks pete
that's tha wrong way to do,, I do those by my self but everybody has there ways
I'm watching very close, over and over again, still might call the professionals in, just aint workin for me, f%@#n frustrating...
Tru!
im sure it came out good...but to many unnecessary steps
@CarCriticAssessor And why would I give a shit about any of that? I don't like them...PERIOD.
the beginning is extremely annoying and i turn it down
